Overall length, including the oversized mounting brackets is slightly under 5 inches end to end. The hook itself from outside end to outside end is 3 1/2 inches. However, the hook measurement that counts is the true inside length of the hook that reaches and fits into the mounting bracket which is only 3 inches from inside edge to inside edge. When you say its a 4 inch hook, the length of hook being latched should be 4 inches! Its 3! The round, oversized mounting brackets are just under 1 & 1/2 in diameter. Nice looking hook though. Heavy. But these will be returned and Ill order the 6 inch hook so I can actually get the 4 inch lachable hook length I needed. Most people wont have to worry about the mess they made of these measurements but if you have a complicated place where you need a hook, it matters. I gave it 3 stars for nice weight, nice finish, and the feel of good quality.

I rent and needed something quick and easy to install to keep my backyard gate closed. I attached it to my gate with zip ties. It came with screws too if you needed to attach it to wood or something. It was exactly what I needed and Definitely good for the price!

Thicker & stronger than expected, which is good since I needed it to keep our Great Dane puppy out of a flower bed that has poisonous to dogs plants.

We installed our sturdy black latch on the inside of the gate on our chicken yard. Works great. Easy to install and easy for us to use to secure the gate from the inside. It was kind of hard for the kids to reach over the gate to secure the latch on the outside of the gate. This was the perfect solution. I also like the black hardware as opposed to the shiny ones you usually see. This one is also a bit bigger and more substantial. I really like it.

I was busy trying to catch my pet tiger when my foot hit a hot wheel car and I slipped and fell! I was flailing my arms around and for a second I thought I saw a bright light at the end of a tunnel. All of a sudden I felt something grab me and pull me out like I was drowning. It was this latch! It had caught me before I could land on a cactus and kept me safe! Five stars for this hero!
