Is way bigger than it looks in pictures

We originally installed our barn door to keep our nosy pets away from some new furniture in our den. It took our cat all of about 2 minutes to discover that he could push to slide the door open and sneak inside. If not for the cat, the dog would probably still be sitting there, staring at the new door. But, in they went and were found lounging on the new sofa. This is why we cant have nice things. A quick Amazon search on barn door latches helped me find this particular item and its exactly what we were looking for. Its heavy duty and of excellent quality, has a nice finish and installed quickly. Because of the offset between the barn door and the wall, we chose to mount the latch hook on the end of the door and the latch eye on the adjacent wall. It looks great and works perfectly. Now the cat just pushes futilely at the latched door and glares at us. The dog just stares at the door. The furniture is safe! Victory!

Overall length, including the oversized mounting brackets is slightly under 5 inches end to end. The hook itself from outside end to outside end is 3 1/2 inches. However, the hook measurement that counts is the true inside length of the hook that reaches and fits into the mounting bracket which is only 3 inches from inside edge to inside edge. When you say its a 4 inch hook, the length of hook being latched should be 4 inches! Its 3! The round, oversized mounting brackets are just under 1 & 1/2 in diameter. Nice looking hook though. Heavy. But these will be returned and Ill order the 6 inch hook so I can actually get the 4 inch lachable hook length I needed. Most people wont have to worry about the mess they made of these measurements but if you have a complicated place where you need a hook, it matters. I gave it 3 stars for nice weight, nice finish, and the feel of good quality.

Hardware included, strong hook

I live in an older home and we try not to add items that are too tacky or damage the wood too much, and these are great. They are heavy and of great quality. They are effective for what they’re made for. I highly recommend them over the cheap little silver latches any day. Much nicer to look at if you need something of this sort.

The privacy hook was easy to install, solidly constructed, with a clean look. I it looks like its built to last, and finished well. The only reason I gave it 4 stars on Durability instead of 5 is that I had to use my own screw anchors. The catch mounts solidly directly into the barn door with the supplied screws. However, the hook portion has the same screws as the catch portion but came without anchors. In our case it was mounted in drywall, and installing with only the provided hardware would have resulted in the hook portion pulling loose from the wall over time. I highly recommend using two screw anchors - the result is a solid-latching privacy hook.
