> 3 dayI previously owned a VHS to digital converter that I liked really well, but it only worked on my really old Dell desktop (circa 2003). But when the video card died in it, I tried to install it on my new laptop and it wouldnt work. Thus, I tried this product because I didnt want to waste a lot of money buying an entirely new kit with a VCR which I didnt need since it came with my last kit. Onto this product: PROS: 1) Simple install (pop the disc in and follow prompts, or go to their Web Site and download the software). Plug converter into your computer and (USING YOUR OWN RCA or S CABLE) plug into your camcorder or VCR. (I ended up buying a cable from Walmart for about $8.00 to make it work) 2) Fairly simple user interface: The screen is pretty self-explanatory. Large record button, and tabs across the top tell you which part youre on in the process. CONS: 1) It wont let you change the name of your video file once you have started recording. For several of my first attempts, I didnt see the place to put the name in until after Id started, but it wont let you change it in the program. 2) Progream seems simple enough to use, however, it DOESNT work properly! I successfully transferred 2 tapes then went to do the 3rd one. I have tried FOUR times now. It looks like its recording then when it automatically stops at the end of the tape (good feature theoretically), the program gets forever stuck on the finishing step. I literally let it sit there for more than 2 hours to finish a 30 min video recording and it never did! I had to force a shutdown, which of course lost the video Id recorded. Over and over again this happened. I am so fed up Im ready to return it and buy another one! This is ridiculous and I never had problems with my old one! 3) Video quality is terrible. Again, using the VCR from my previous purchase, which includes the lovely old-school tracking buttons to try to get rid of those annoying lines across the tape, I have had ZERO success it making any tangible difference to the tape quality. And from my previous lovely four attempts on the same video (from 1999), I can tell you how incredibly INCONSISTENT the video quality is on the program! Some attempts were much clearer than others, and i had to keep rewinding to try to get to the start of the tape again and when it re-recorded, the lines would be across the entire thing all of a sudden (when they werent there before) or the video would freeze, even though the tape was clearly still playing behind it! AND, it kept cutting out as though there is a short in the cord. The screen would just suddenly flash no video feed detected even though it was still playing. It was usually only for a second or two, but sometimes was as long as 10 seconds or longer. Ridiculous!! Both this product and the RCA cable I used, were BRAND NEW. I suppose there is a chance that the RCA cable from Walmart was defective, but I have no way of knowing that. 4) Claims to be able to export video files in MPEG, which is what I wanted since I will be sharing these home video files with family who own a variety of equipment to view them on, but that feature doesnt work either! (and my laptop is a year old, so it isnt that) It will only allow me to export a video file in WMV which makes it specific to windows users without a conversion program. So...overall, dont waste your money. Go the more expensive route and get the entire system with the included VCR rather than this piece of junk. If i even bother to try to keep using it, its going to take me another 20 years to get the small box of tapes transferred to digital (if it ever works.)

> 3 dayIt wont burn the DVDs. However, Im just glad that I got to save old home videos as digital files on my laptop. My only complaint is that the videos look more fuzzy and theres a pesky purple bar on the top of each video that has everyone looking like Thanos. It wasnt there before, but it doesnt bother me that much because it eventually fades away in longer videos.

Greater than one weekI used this plus an old working VCR to convert a set of 4 VHS home movies my Dad made in the 80s. Rather than use the software on the CD included, I downloaded the latest version from Roxio (plus an update) and it worked well on my 9 year old Windows 10 machine (AMD FX 8120 3.1 Ghz CPU, 16gb ram, and 512GB SSD). Rather than let it run for the whole 2 hours, I sectioned my videos up in 20-30 minute segments to make it easier to manage. I was able to create video files to put on USB flash drives to hand out to family, as well as menu-driven DVDs (which I created using the built in Roxio MyDVD). The software feels a bit dated, but then again so are the source VHS tapes. Overall Im pretty happy to be able to archive these home movies using this affordable solution.

> 3 dayI purchased this item to convert 40 VHS tapes full of family memories ranging from my kids births to their weddings and numerous family gatherings. Based on my poor experience with this highly unreliable and buggy product, I definitely believe this tool is not worth what I paid for and I recommend people dont buy it and instead purchase a similar tool from someone else. I plan to return this buggy product and buy a different version from a competitor so that I can convert all my tapes correctly and reliably. Sadly, for a company this big, their level of technical support has been extremely poor, the application they included with the adapter is very buggy, limited in functionality, and it constantly crashes very easily. Worse yet, either because of these crashes or because the application erroneously stops the conversion midway, the user is given the false impression that either the end of tape has been reached or the entire recording has been converted, when in fact only a small portion of the tape was processed. My first issue started with the installation of the software, which I tried to do on two different computers, and both gave me the same error message (missing cp.msi file for Cinema Player), an error that stopped the installation on its tracks and reversed the partial setup. I called for technical support but they could not help me. They kept insisting both on the chat window and by e-mail, that I send them a screen snapshot of the error messages, even though I sent it to them twice via the chat window but got nothing back in return to address my issues. All I wanted it was for then to provide the missing MSI file so the installation could finish correctly, which of course they could not do or simply lacked the understanding of what I needed to do. I figured out on my own that by uninstalling all Roxio products from my laptop, I was able to reinstall and use the new app on that unit. It is still broken on the desktop computer I want to use for the actual conversions, as my laptop lacks a DVD burner and I refuse to do the same uninstall steps on my desktop. The most frustrating and challenging part has been dealing with a “painful” and highly unreliable tool, one that easily crashes when there is other significant activity going at the same time on in the same computer. Things like Windows activating screen saver, or the users opening File Explorer across the network, looking at windows Settings, downloading an app from the Store or installing a program, more often than not will crash the app without completing the conversion. Yet, nothing tell you that the tape was partially converted and more remains Which it means, that to ensure the entire contents of the tape are fully converted, the only alternative left is to closely watch monitor the conversion of each 4-hour tape without doing too much work on the same unit to ensure nothing is dropped to minimize the impact of restarting the process multiple times. This would make this conversion process take a lot longer and we could not do an unattended load. From my perspective, the recommendation is simple: buy a product from a company that provides better support and a tool that works consistently, and provides more functionality that this bad product; otherwise, you will be wasting your money

> 3 dayI used this device to transfer all of my old home VHS tapes with little to no issues (Probably 30-40 half-hour tapes, some 30+years old.) The software is buggy (at least on Windows 10) so I only used it for recording. It crashed constantly if I tried to do anything else: editing, color correction, even saving a project. I dont know why you would use this outdated software to edit and trim instead of a video editor anyway, but other than that for the sole purpose of capturing video and audio it worked for me. No problems with the hardware, either. The video quality looks identical to the tapes, take that however you may. Overall I would recommend this.
