It worked. It is easy to use. I installed the software from Roxio site, rebooted and it worked fine. The app doesnt have many options but that was the least of my concerns. Audio and video quality matches what you would expect from digital 8 video, in my case. If you just want to watch the video on your screen then there are $10-$12 options out there. However, if you want to convert and digitize the video then this is a good option.

This is perfect, really simple instructions and it works very well right out of the box. the information in the reviews was very helpful. got our home videos converted to digital format. The s/w is not always perfect, after 3 hours of watching/ recording during the final step of digital file creation it can say that it failed to create the file, but if you just retry it works. So, its not bad at all. At the end of the day, got all of our cassettes converted to digital file in a hard disk.

Wish there was a spot for ZERO stars in this product review screen. Before anyone asks, no, I did not contact tech support ... this software was so bad, I knew better. Please take some friendly advice of myself and many others ... DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, unless you enjoy hours and hours of frustration, Windows PC restarts, and horrible application software which is SO full of bugs and very unstable ... basically USELESS. I assumed this POS would at least simply import video from my old mini-DV and Hi8 tapes from when the kids were young. Nope! Installation was rough, and took a few tries. After it finally completed the installation, as usual, I go and set some figurations and tailor this to my setup here. Most decent software allows such changes and then saves them as future defaults ... you know, like LOCATION TO SAVE YOUR CAPTURE FILES. Nope again, any settings are lost when you exit or restart (which had to be done several times each day), no matter what you changed, none of the settings stick and it goes back to saving your capture files ... who knows where sometimes, very inconsistent indeed. Save your money, and just purchase the cheapest USB to RCA video/audio capture device on Amazon, and download OSB for your software. It is TREMENDOUS and very easy to use.

The parent company for the Roxio VHS to Digital file converter is Corel, which also owns the Pinnacle Dazzle product. There are compatibility issues with this product, but once loaded it works as advertised. 1. The product will not load on the HP Pavilion laptop running Windows 10 on 10th gen i7 processor with Intel graphics chipset. However, it did load successfully on the HP Notebook running Windows 10, 7th gen i7 processor with Intel graphics chipset and on the Asus X515 laptop running Windows 11, 11th gen i3 processor with Intel graphics shipset laptop. 2. Although the software is to be downloaded from the Roxio online store, the version that is available fore download is obsolete so you have to download a 2nd program after the initial software download/install. Corel could have made this a 1 step download process from their website instead of making it a 2 step process. 3. Format for the imported file is MPEG 2 compatible, so must download the MPEG 2 video extension from the Microsoft Store before the laptop can play the file.

I used this plus an old working VCR to convert a set of 4 VHS home movies my Dad made in the 80s. Rather than use the software on the CD included, I downloaded the latest version from Roxio (plus an update) and it worked well on my 9 year old Windows 10 machine (AMD FX 8120 3.1 Ghz CPU, 16gb ram, and 512GB SSD). Rather than let it run for the whole 2 hours, I sectioned my videos up in 20-30 minute segments to make it easier to manage. I was able to create video files to put on USB flash drives to hand out to family, as well as menu-driven DVDs (which I created using the built in Roxio MyDVD). The software feels a bit dated, but then again so are the source VHS tapes. Overall Im pretty happy to be able to archive these home movies using this affordable solution.

Some reviews talked about difficulty with the installation of this product. Im operating Windows 10 and had zero issues. It is very easy to operate and I was able to copy many 20-30 year old VHS tapes to disc with no problem. Im sure there are better products, but for the price and for my intended goal, this worked great. There are things I would tweak about putting titles on the movies and other features, but overall, Im happy!

I purchased this item to convert 40 VHS tapes full of family memories ranging from my kids births to their weddings and numerous family gatherings. Based on my poor experience with this highly unreliable and buggy product, I definitely believe this tool is not worth what I paid for and I recommend people dont buy it and instead purchase a similar tool from someone else. I plan to return this buggy product and buy a different version from a competitor so that I can convert all my tapes correctly and reliably. Sadly, for a company this big, their level of technical support has been extremely poor, the application they included with the adapter is very buggy, limited in functionality, and it constantly crashes very easily. Worse yet, either because of these crashes or because the application erroneously stops the conversion midway, the user is given the false impression that either the end of tape has been reached or the entire recording has been converted, when in fact only a small portion of the tape was processed. My first issue started with the installation of the software, which I tried to do on two different computers, and both gave me the same error message (missing cp.msi file for Cinema Player), an error that stopped the installation on its tracks and reversed the partial setup. I called for technical support but they could not help me. They kept insisting both on the chat window and by e-mail, that I send them a screen snapshot of the error messages, even though I sent it to them twice via the chat window but got nothing back in return to address my issues. All I wanted it was for then to provide the missing MSI file so the installation could finish correctly, which of course they could not do or simply lacked the understanding of what I needed to do. I figured out on my own that by uninstalling all Roxio products from my laptop, I was able to reinstall and use the new app on that unit. It is still broken on the desktop computer I want to use for the actual conversions, as my laptop lacks a DVD burner and I refuse to do the same uninstall steps on my desktop. The most frustrating and challenging part has been dealing with a “painful” and highly unreliable tool, one that easily crashes when there is other significant activity going at the same time on in the same computer. Things like Windows activating screen saver, or the users opening File Explorer across the network, looking at windows Settings, downloading an app from the Store or installing a program, more often than not will crash the app without completing the conversion. Yet, nothing tell you that the tape was partially converted and more remains Which it means, that to ensure the entire contents of the tape are fully converted, the only alternative left is to closely watch monitor the conversion of each 4-hour tape without doing too much work on the same unit to ensure nothing is dropped to minimize the impact of restarting the process multiple times. This would make this conversion process take a lot longer and we could not do an unattended load. From my perspective, the recommendation is simple: buy a product from a company that provides better support and a tool that works consistently, and provides more functionality that this bad product; otherwise, you will be wasting your money

It worked fine for digitalizing my home movie coming off my VHS player and running it into my Mac. The rest of the features apparently did not down load. I had no way to edit the movie, add voice overs, and so forth let alone burn the final edited movie to a DVD. I called the phone number and the person assigned me a Corel case number. I got an email from them saying thanks and someone will get back with you and no one has. Im getting ready to send it back for a refund. I went to a local store that had this on the shelf and was told it wont work on a MAC so thats been the problem. Looks like Roxio could make that clear to start with. The device works fine for digitalizing and feeding your movie into your computer, then if you already have I-Movie or some other movie editing program, you can do lots of stuff, but if you want to burn your movie to a DVD, this program you have bought from Roxio wont work on your MAC. I discovered that going thru Finder, you can burn things to DVDs, but your movie ends up as a Data DVD and cant be played on a TV. Next stop will be the MAC store up the road.
