Originally I purchased a competing product, but it utterly failed, so I opted for a few dollars more to buy this Roxio video capture system. The instructions, while sparse, are quite clear. The software is installed in your Mac and after installation, one is greeted with the now familiar compatibility warning that it is 32 bit and will soon not work on your Mac. Not to worry, almost immediately a popup reveals an update which you should download and allow to install and relaunch. Once done, connect up your device to your Mac and to your VCR or Camcorder, open the window and follow the easy directions. WARNING!!! prepare to go have lunch as the tape MUST PLAY IN REAL TIME. So, if a tape is 2 hours, that is how long it will take. Once done, you will find the completed .mov file in your User folder under Movies with a Roxio Video Capture folder that contains the movie. After that you can edit the movie in iMovie or, if it is good enough and you dont need sound track or titles, just burn it to an appropriate disk (CD, DVD or dual layer DVD). While I am not the worlds greatest lover of Roxio, this baby works as advertised. Glad I bought it as I have some videos shot 40 years ago that needed to be saved digitally. My wife is happy. happy wives make happy husbands. (old proverb)

Not sure what I AM DOING WITH THIS PRODUCT. Trying to save old VHS on to DVD, but its been more of a headache than not. I think I need another type of VHS player. I wish that was in the description. Oh well, someone I know must have a more current VHS player, Ill just have to ask around. I gave it 3 stars because I really dont know if it works, but I am giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Very good product. I am loading all the Super 8 recordings taken years ago with my now old analog camcorder. The quality of both, image and sound is excellent. I have just a little problem. Files of converted videos are in MPG format that is no compatible with Macs iMovie. The software Easy VHS to DVD Capture that comes with the product, convert automatically the files to be read for iMovie, but this operation make a duplicate of every video with different format occupying a lot of space in the hard drive.

I am a fairly experienced Mac user running 10.7. I wanted to migrate home VCRs to DVD. Bought the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD product, after reading several reviews and checking that they had solved the OS 10.6 to 10.7 problem. About 6 hours later, my conclusion is: SAVE YOUR MONEY, THIS PRODUCT IS FAR FROM READY FOR SALE. On installation it updates to version 2.01. I made all connections correctly. All appears to start properly. However, I consistently get a failure to save message. Hard disk space disappears, and all appears well, so you only learn this after wasting the length of the movie. Repeating the process results in the same negative result. (The used HD space is also a mystery as no file results from the aborted transfer, you cannot easily delete something and recover the space.) No support from Roxio - just many unanswered questions on their discussion boards. I understand that these companies cant afford to staff a call center, but is it too much to ask that they review and answer outstanding complaints? Nothing - no error (OSS -49) decoder, no tips or hints, just outdated product manuals. Bottom line, save your money, or spend it on some other product.

I can now digitize a ton of VHS tapes I’ve collected over the years, and thereby gain all of the advantages of digital files (near-instantaneous access to any point in a movie or cartoon). Yay!

Thought a Roxio product would actually work but was sadly mistaken. The interface was easy and actually worked pulling in a video from my VHS player. That is as far as my positive comments can go. The software that came with this was worthless. You press record and it appears to be recording, but after you are done you would expect a button saying finish recording (or save, or something along that line) but there isnt and the recording does not save anywhere on your hard drive. I went to the Roxio site and there is no support for the product at all. The software only showed an update for older software than what came with the product. I thought maybe it would help so I downloaded the only software they had on the Roxio site and it was worse than the original. With no ability to save the recording, it will not be in my possession for very long. I am sending it back. I have looked into the Elgato Video Capture option. I hope it works better than this POC!

Awesome product! I bought an off brand of this on Amazon and the picture on the computer came out black and white. I gave this one a try and it works perfectly! Easy to set up and record from the VCR to my Mac!

This works really well, but then it stops working at all and you have to reinstall it, or at least unplug it, then plug it in and get it working again. A good price, considering I only have a limited number of VHS videos to convert into a digital format. The quality of the tapes themselves is pretty bad, but I guess thats due to age. Most of the tapes Im converting have only been watched a couple of times then stored. It would be great if there was a way to maximise the quality and convert them to a widescreen format but you cant have it all. However, it does the job as well as can be expected.

I highly recommend Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac. It only takes a couple minutes to install and youre ready to go. The quality of the transfer is excellent and it is simple to use. I only started out to save a few items off of one tape but the ease of use and the quality of the transfer has me transferring every single video tape I have left in my library.

I bought the product to convert my wedding VHS tapes from 21 years ago. I am running Mac OS 10.5.8 on a 2008 model Mac Pro. It worked well converting my first tape to a digital file. No issue of drop outs as reported on some posts. I have yet to burn the DVD, but this should work as well. I will repost at a leter date if this is not the case. I gave it 4 stars because there are some other similar hardware products (? igrabber)through Meritline that cost half the price that may work as well, but I am less sure about the accompanying software. I went with the Roxio product because not spending hours tracking down acompanying software is not worth the $25 in cost savings. Purchase through Amazon was a charm as usual.
