I recently had the pleasure of testing the Samsung 870 EVO SATA III SSD 1TB 2.5” Internal Solid State Drive, and Im here to share my thoughts on this outstanding piece of technology. Works with old school bios and EFI

Easily installed and immediately recognized by the Win10. Not enough time using same to comment on long term life.

In both cases, the drive would show up and then have issues. For the first one, I did a quick format and then started writing to it. Once I had around 150GB on it, it started failing with write errors and then would disappear untill a reboot. For the second, I tried a full format format and that errored out causing the drive to vanish permanently. Id guess the problem is less Samsung and more Amazon, since they keep shipping the drive in a bag instead of a box. Who knows how much damage it takes in transit.

These replaced 4 month old WD Blue SATA SSDs that failed on me twice. Samsung EVOs have not given me any I/O errors in Linux, and have been very stable. I do not have storage heavy tasks that rely on the IOPS or anything like that, so any desktop drive should have worked for my application. Initial investment for Samsung seems more expensive than WD Blue, but the time and costs of having to deal with WD RMA process and paying for shipping makes Samsung much less costly and a lot less risky.

No issues with this replacing a smaller capacity Samsung drive. The Samsung transfer utility worked flawlessly to transfer my boot system from the old drive to this one.
