There is nothing like the old original Ms Pac Man joysticks... and this joystick is nothing like the original either. The only restrictor plate that came with mine has a square hole in it, and it doesnt matter which way you orient a square, its still a square. Ms Pac Man does NOT like input from two directional switches at once, thus she (or her relatives) doesnt play well with this joystick at all. On the other hand, my eight-way games in this same cab play very well with this joystick, and I like it for them. I had to manufacture a mounting plate to fit the holes, as I didnt want to drill more holes in my original cabinet, but it was very easy to mount and wire. It feels MUCH better than the Happ Controls joystick... just wish it had true 4-way capability. That being said, then it wouldnt play with the 8-way games!

This is the gold standard for arcade joysticks. It feels perfect. I replaced the joystick in my main fighting stick with this and could instantly tell a difference. I do recommend getting an octagonal restrictor plate unless you prefer the square.

Installed the sanwa arcade sticks in my arcade 1up legends cabinet after swapping the metal plate and changing the ball top color. They fit great and have a shorter throw which makes inputs more accurate for fighting games etc. The quality is very high and the micro switches feel good and clicky. These are very much worth the upgrade if you want to put in some serious gaming. Fast shipping as well.

I bought an inexpensive joystick to play Street Fighter, but I wanted an octagon gate so I switched it and a few other parts took about 30 minutes and the joystick works really well.

It wasnt very strait forward to me how to convert it to 4-way but after puzzling over it a bit we figured it out. Did not realize the inner part of the little plastic piece on the bottom could pop out and back in. So you pop out the inner ring and rotate it 45 degrees and its becomes 4 way. Its been working awesome for the few weeks Ive had it.

It is immediately obvious that it is indeed genuine based on the quality (despite the china import labels). Completely smooth, uniform in all directions with basically zero play compared to anything with generic brands or knock offs I saw (including what is in some known brand controllers I tried)... Personally, I would be happy with the performance even if it was not made by sanwa...

I have this set up as a 4-way for Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, etc. Easy to connect up to a usb encoder and use with Mame etc. I’m going to buy another one of these with some buttons for an 8-way setup to use with other games. Solid feel. Feels like I’m in the arcade. The plate is easy to switch but not something you want to switch every time you change games. I can see the plastic giving tabs giving out after too many switches. I tried Pac-Man in 8-way mode and game play was more difficult. Lots of mistakes. Do yourself a favor and buy two: one for 4-way and one for 8-way. Worth every penny.

Perfect replacement stick for a Mayflash F101. Was having trouble with the stick not recognizing all the directions but I tried a different cable and flipped the cable around and it works fine now. Needs a five pin cable (sold separately), but you can get like... 5 for $3 so its no big deal. The install itself was super easy- I went into it completely blind and figured it out no problem. Absolutely recommended.

Due to the issues with a joystick on both of my Arcade1up machines I have now put one of these in two different Arcade1up machines (Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam). They feel kind of similar to the stock sticks but there is certainly a quality difference. The clicking is a little quieter and less cheap sounding than the stock sticks in the Arcade1up cabinets. It comes set up as 8-way but can be switched to 4-way if u are using it for Pac-Man or something like that by adjusting the retainer on the bottom of the stick. It’s pretty easy to do but you have to take the control deck off to access the bottom of the joystick. I like the standard square 8-way gate and even don’t mind the light tension springs for the NBA Jam but hate both in the MK. I put an octagonal gate on the one in the Mortal Kombat machine and love it. I plan on putting 4 lb tension springs in the MK cabinet and maybe 2 lb springs in the NBA Jam (just so it dosnt feel so cheap). As far as install goes, you have to be somewhat handy, but it’s pretty easy to install. You will want to take the metal plate off of your stock Arcade1up joystick and install it on your new sanwa. This way the screw holes match up and you don’t have to make a bunch of new holes. The other thing is this joystick comes with a 5 pin connector and the 1up has 8 wires soldered in. This is where you may spend a little extra time figuring it out. Basically, under your joystick, there are four switches/buttons (up, down, left, right). On the stock setup, each switch is connected to the control board with two wires (power and ground). To wire in the new joystick, you just have to use the included connecter and splice 5 wires. You will use the positive wire from each switch and connect to one of the four colored wires on the connecter. You can use just one of the old grounds and connect it to the black wire on the included connecter. You could solder the wires, but I just twisted and used heat shrink tubes and a heat gun. Electrical tape would work fine too. A little trial and error may be needed to have your directions correct if your like me, but the second time was a lot easier. Size wise the sanwa is about the same as the Arcade1up sticks so the only issues fitting should be able to be resolved by orienting the stick so the 5 pin connecter isn’t obstructed. I will try to add pictures if I do another one or when I do the springs.
