Its stainless steel which means it will take a long time before rusting, if ever. Where the stainless steel inserts into the wooden handle its very sturdy. With the teeth on both sides makes for cutting into hard soil easier than a regular gardening spade. The tool is ambidextrous. Its made to be used by both right and left handed people. As a gift, Id be sure to give it to an avid gardener, someone that would appreciate the uniqueness of this tool.

Have used this item for many years and found no other tool comparable. Bought for someone who is just starting to garden.

I had not seen such a tool before. But traditional hand planting spades just didnt work for breaking through old roots to plant new bulbs. Worked extremely well with the serrated edges, pointed tip, deep scoop, and comfy handle.

I have over 60 potted plants that I repot almost every year. The soil scoop is now my new best garden tool. So easy to fill pots and bury new plants now. It’s extremely well built and comfortable in your hand. My landscaper used it and it got the name from him as I just had to have one. It’s a keeper for sure.

I bought one of these soil scoops many years ago, in a small specialty garden shop. It quickly became a favorite gardening tool. Could never find these in regular home improvement store and always wanted to get a spare. Finally found these being sold on Amazon and bought one for my son, although it was the plastic handled version. Shortly after, found the wood handled version that I wanted, on sale, about half price and only a few dollars more than the plastic one. Jumped on that deal and now have my spare! I love the cupped shape of the spade, which makes scooping soil and potting mix easy, and the pointed tip really helps digging into compacted soil.

We had one of these from 10 years ago and both of us in the household liked it so much - we would race to grab it when gardening (and, yes, we would take turns). Easily scoop; simply break up chunks of soil with the pointed tip; make a perfect planting hole; AND, easily open bags with the serrated edge. Now you understand why we both wanted to use it. Finally we were enlightened. DUH! - order another from Amazon. While at it for us - we ordered 3 to be given as gifts!

I received this as a gift and loved it so much I have since bought it to give as a gift to an avid garden. Great for planting transplants. You can dig the hole and the scoop is deep enough to keep the soil in the tool, drop the transplant in the hole and then cover with the soil.

I like the feel of the tool in my hand. I worked well digging and scraping. Made my cleaning between cracks easy.

After much trowel and error this is my favorite small hand shovel. When I first received one as a gift years ago, I thought it was a bit gimmicky. How wrong I was! Once, I started using it, I realized its great versatility, and realized the limitations of the other hand shovels I was using. As a landscape contractor, I have repeated needs to dig to do my work and solve problems. The Soil Scoop offers a curved and pointed nose to help with digging small holes in hard or clay soils. The saw edge helps to sever roots that are in the way. When I need to dig out a small irrigation valve box or narrow planting hole, the Soil Scoop can lift out plenty of dirt, where other trowels will have the soil slide off right back in to the hole. Currently, my two Soil Scoops have disappeared, and being without them is driving me nuts! I love using the tool when I am potting plants and need to fill small or large pots with soil. The Soil Scoop is a great tool to lift potting soil out of a bag and into the pot. The way it is built means that the scoop is not going to separate from the handle as with other trowels. The blade is not going to bend. I have used Soil Scoops with the wooden handle and the Comfort Grip. I love working with them both. Wood and metal is a more recyclable product. You will not be disappointed if you buy one. You will be disappointed if you lose one!
