> 24 hourPros: Flashable Affordable Easy to use Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT Power monitoring feature Cons: Too big it cover 2 gauge outlets Not as fast as some other smart plugs Does not support 5GHz Wi-Fi To flash a Sonoff S31 with Tasmota, you will need the following: A Sonoff S31 smart plug A USB to TTL adapter A micro USB cable A computer with a terminal emulator Once you have gathered your materials, follow these steps: Disconnect the Sonoff S31 from power. Open the Sonoff S31 and expose the PCB. Locate the GPIO0 button and the TX and RX pins. Connect the TX pin of the USB to TTL adapter to the RX pin of the Sonoff S31. Connect the RX pin of the USB to TTL adapter to the TX pin of the Sonoff S31. Connect the ground pin of the USB to TTL adapter to the ground pin of the Sonoff S31. Connect the 3.3V pin of the USB to TTL adapter to the 3.3V pin of the Sonoff S31. Connect the USB to TTL adapter to your computer. Open a terminal emulator and set the baud rate to 115200. Enter the following command to enter bootloader mode: Press the GPIO0 button and hold it down. While holding down the GPIO0 button, plug the Sonoff S31 into a power outlet. Release the GPIO0 button after a few seconds. The Sonoff S31 should now be in bootloader mode. Use the terminal emulator to upload the Tasmota firmware to the Sonoff S31. Once the Tasmota firmware has been uploaded, the Sonoff S31 will reboot. The Sonoff S31 will now be running Tasmota.

> 24 hourI bought a 4 pack of the S40 plugs and had 2 dead out-of-the-box. The other 2 paired up, and worked for just over 24 hours. I woke up to find these 2 flashing my lamps on and off. The app showed them both off-line. Button pressing on the plugs had no effect. When I unplugged them, the button lights would not light up when plugged back into the wall socket. I tried contacting the manufacturer, received a fairly quick response, and was advised to return them to Amazon. I did, and requested a replacement. I received the replacement, and had 1 die within 6 hours. The other 3 lasted almost 48 hours. This morning I found my lamps flashing on and off again. I am sending these back and can not recommend these.

> 24 hourI was hoping this would work as its great value f it would have. After following the official instructions on their website I was happy to see that the plugs populated on the website. But when you read what it says on the plugs that show up it says unsupported. Clicking on the list of supported devices they are on their list. As this is their website I suspect that it wouldnt be just home assistant integration but also others including alexa or remote usage.

> 24 hourI love these switches because they are cheap but durable and (assuming you are not afraid of soldering) it isnt so difficult to replace the Sonoff software with something open source like Tasmota. They are my goto power-measuring device on my home automation system (Home Assistant) for household appliances. But here is my warning if you do intend to reprogram them: to open up the case, you need to extract three screws and these are always in so tight that it is extremely easy to strip them, or damage the case, or both.

> 24 hourAfter opening them up and flashing Tasmota firmware to the onboard chip, I can now control these via MQTT and my home control system without an internet connection needed. A VPN connection handles off-site control. I am currently using them to schedule lamps and equipment chargers periods of activity.

> 24 hourWorks great right out of the box. Using the Ewelink software, you are presented with all the parameters and easily connects to Alexa. Just change the name during the configuration to prevent Alexa from getting her tung tied up in a knot. The only downside is that unlike other Sonoff boards, the serial connection points on the board does not have through hole pads. Several flashers have damaged the pads trying to hook up the connections for flashing alternative software. Very good value for money

> 24 hourFlash these switches with the OpenSource Tasmota firmware to unlock the full potential of these switches. With Tasmota, there is no cloud dependency, no phoning home, no privacy risk. You can use this switch as a standalone device by accessing the Tasmota web page. Alternatively, Tasmota on this switch provides full integration with MQTT for use with HomeAssistant or OpenHab. I have five of those switches with Tasmota installed and they are bulletproof. The remote control of the switch is great, but the real-time power monitoring is just awesome. I use these switches to monitor amperage and wattage draw of 3D printers. Plus, these are great for any hardware you wish to remote switch.

> 24 hourEasy to disassemble and flash with tasmota, exactly what I was looking for. Works with energy monitoring in home assistant through cloud on factory firmware, or locally on tasmota.

> 24 hourWe live in an older home that doesnt have overhead lighting in the ceiling. In stead, every room has to be lit with lamps and it was such a pain to turn everything on an off when you entered a room. So, we decided smart plugs and they have been a game changer. Very easy to set up with the eWeLink app and then integrate with the Alexa app. We group the switches together in each room and then set up the on/off schedules and routines in the Alexa app, rather than eWeLink, but you can do it either way. Lots of options. So much easier to just say Alexa, turn on the living room than switching on three lamps! Love these.

> 24 hourI do like this device especially since its so much cheaper than other devices similar to it. But you do pay for that in some ways because it doesnt have a fast rate of updating. So it seems to freeze occasionally for 10 to 15 seconds and then other times it will report every 5 or so seconds. For my purposes it does just what I needed to.
