Fantastic game! I got this for my Mom because shes so obsessed with Settlers of Catan but has played it a million times and wanted a change. There are so many pieces and stages that it seems much more complex than it actually is. Once you play through one time, you get the gist of it and can start to strategize. Its super fun and have enough variety that each game is different depending on the hand youre dealt. The rest of my family loved playing it so much they all bought their own copy to have at home!

We really like worker placement games. Viticulture gives such great choices and just the right amount of brain burn. So many things to plan ahead for. And so rewarding when your plan pans out.

So I finally pulled the trigger and purchased Viticulture, (Essential Edition) (which followed the first and second editions) has a couple things pulled from an earlier expansion (Tuscany, I believe) which make the game far more interesting. One is the introduction of the Mama and Papa cards (which give you a random setup and starting resources). This is a very nice design element.

Viticulture is everything a great worker-placement game should be- a perfect mix of chance, strategy and tactics. We have played 2 - 5 people and the play has always been challenging. I have yet to beat my wife (grrr) and have enjoyed every game!
