14-06-2025My Hitachi operating hard drive on my 12 year old Gateway crashed .. replaced it with his WD Blue SSD (restored from Acronis). So Far I am happy with the operation of the new drive ... will have to see if it will last as long as the original drive did..

> 3 dayJust added this 500GB WD Blue SSD to my custom build - a no-brainer really. Currently on my 2nd custom PC and it has (1) 4TB WD Black, (1) 500GB WD Blue, and (5) 4TB WD Reds. Western Digital makes the best products when it comes to storage. Ive used WD products in my 2 custom PCs Ive built. First computer I kept for 5 years with ZERO HDD or SSD issues.

Greater than one weekFor a TLC drive this performs exceptionally well - both in its sequential reads and writes as well as its random performance. As others have stated this is a result of a merger between WD and Sandisk. The drive unfortunately comes with a shorter warranty than the Sandisk badged drives. This drive is not for power users, although the performance on this drive is better than I expected. I attached a screen shot from a CrystalDiskMark test I ran on the drive that shows how the drive performs conducting both sequential and random reads and writes to the disk. Although the test reveals the sequential writes as going over 530 megabytes per second, the reality will be a little different. Once the drives buffer fills up the write speed will drop into the mid 200s - still very fast for a TLC budget drive. Random reads are about 46 megabytes per second while random writes come in at 160. I would expect that number to drop under a sustained heavy load as well. All in this is a decent performing drive. But you may want to look at the Sandisk X400 which is the same drive and a little faster on sequential writes and gives you a 5 year (vs. 3 year on the WD) warranty.

> 3 dayDid a fresh install of win10 on my old trusty laptop that was taking upwards of 20 mins from power on to usable on this drive. It now starts up super fast, is usable in less than 2 minutes, and has restored life to my laptop so I can continue to use it. Highly recommend.

> 3 daySo far so good. There are scores above which are accurate. The only reason I didnt give a 5 star is bc the material the case of the ssd is made of plastic. Its very cheap feeling. I have an intel and pny drive and they are heavier and seem more well built. Other than that its a great drive.

Greater than one weekI wasnt optimistic about this drive because of the price, especially compared to similar drives from Samsung, but I have been very pleased. My PC usually boots to the Desktop in about 5 seconds, files read and write very fast, and this is overall a great drive. Its not as fast as comparable Samsung EVO or PRO M.2 drives, but also about 1/5 the price.

> 3 dayWorks Great in my Dell Latitude E7470. I was very surprised to see that Dell only offered drives up to 500G in their Latitude Laptops. Thats not nearly enough space for an active field engineer. So I got this because of the WD Brand name as well as having no issues with their products in the past. I popped out the original drive, put this drive in, and used an external enclosure to transfer the original drives contents to this one. Worked perfectly from the start, Great Speed and no more worries about De-fragmenting. Flash drives are the Future people, and this is top of the line. Just remember, nothing is forever, so make sure to take complete and frequent backups

> 3 dayI purchased this to replace my hard drive in a Late 2012 MacMini. This is a wonderful upgrade. It has really sped up my computer and lowered the temperature. Installation was pretty straight forward. I also purchased a tool kit that had the right tools to disassemble the MacMini. Took about 15 min. Restoring the drive took about 6 hours from my Time Machine I always stick with WD drives just because I have always had good luck with them and never had one fail yet.

> 3 dayI installed it last night without a problem. I used EaseUS Todo Backup Frees System Clone function to copy my 160GB HDD to the WD 250GB SSD. This left an unused partition that I expanded using Windows Disk Manager, but I did not expand it until I was sure my PC was going to boot from the SSD properly. After copying, I shut down my PC and removed the old hard drive just to make sure it would boot from the new drive. The PC booted up much faster and quieter.

> 3 dayPutting this WD SSD in my wifes 1 year old i7 laptop finally woke that thing right up. Before that, she pretty much refused to even use it, much preferring my 6 yr old i5 laptop, with its retro-fitted Samsung SSD, since that old thing was vastly outperforming her new one! Now I finally have my old laptop back! The cloning software, from WDs websight worked perfectly to copy her original HD & OS over to the new SSD, along with the use of a portable SATA HD enclosure that I already had on hand. Those inexpensive enclosures are really worth buying, anytime you upgrade to an SSD, since you can then use your original drive as a removable drive or for an OS & file back up.
