23-11-2024Update August 18 2019. Derating to 3 stars, product support is nonexistent, answers to requests for assistance are ignored. I found the way myself to get these smart outlets to work reliably away from home WIFI, it seems for some reason that they dont like the recommended higher levels of router security settings. Set the wifi security to WEP - weaker security - then hide your SSID. You may have to reconnect your devices but I found it does work. Only issue might be that other devices may need the higher level security to work, I have found that too. Luckily I have a dual band router so I have the recommended level of security when using 5G. Bought this few days ago. I use it to control outside pathway lights on a timer, its located only a foot above ground level plus 50ft from the access point and I had doubts about the WiFi signal but, its fine. Initial setup took me more than an hour because the connection instructions are confusing. I could not get it to connect at first - it couldnt see my SSID / WiFi name. First I had to do a reset, then enter my zip code (why?) WiFi SSID manually and then password (Obviously). After that it worked but gave a bad impression at first. Timer controls on the APP are easy to setup. Overall I am pleased with it so far.

> 3 dayWorks very well. I have three of them. Has a timer function and an astronomical function, so for example you can have it turn ON at sunset and OFF at 11pm. I have one controlling a webcam that’s set up to turn on at sunrise and off at sunset. Another controls landscape lighting that goes on 30 minutes after sunset and off at 10:30pm. The third controls a heated doormat, which I set to come on at 11:59 am and off at noon — I actually only use this occasionally so I turn it on manually and the noon setting is just to turn it off automatically if I forget to turn it off manually. My only complaint is that the manual doesn’t tell you how to change to a new Wi-Fi signal, but if you scan reviews you can find how to do that.

Greater than one weekBelow is my original review - mainly due to non-responsive customer service. I finally did get an email response and a phone number (and name) to call. I spent about 15 minutes on the phone with the contact person. He walked through several possible causes and solutions. And although we couldnt pin it down to any one of them directly, the past two days the App has been flawless, with both timers (two locations/two different servers) show up immediately every time I open the App. I have changed my rating to a 5 star - the product is fantastic (the timers always worked flawlessly), and now I can control both locations from anywhere, any time I log in. For anyone looking to use one of these timers to control a 1/2 horsepower/15 amp pump - this works like a charm. Im ordering more of these, plus the wall switches. Great products. Original review below. I give the product itself a 5-star for working as stated in the advertisement. I give 3 stars based on the following: I bought two of these. One is used in a primary home, the second in a vacation home. Both were set up and the timers operate as scheduled. And both are linked to wifi and the cloud. However, when I open the App, the outlet in my primary home shows up each and every time. But the one in my secondary home only shows up periodically. If I shut down the App, then restart - eventually both timers show up, but it may take 15 or 20 restarts to get both on the screen. If I turn off the wifi and rely totally on my 3g/4g/lte the secondary home never shows up, and the primary home will only turn on/off with the APP on occasions. Most times I get an error message .....wifi is not stable. Well, of course not, its turned off. And, I give zero stars for their customer support. Even though there is a fantastic compose and send a message icon, right on the Wion APP, the company has not responded to my message - not even a well check this out and get back with you.

Greater than one weekWould have had five stars for doing what it is supposed to do, easy set up and easy app but I had to replace one because it got water in it. Outdoor rated outlets really shouldnt let water in. Keep it in a place where it will stay dry and it will be great.

24-11-2024I had a similar unit for Xmas lights control and couldnt find it. I went to order another since I didnt have the time look through all the stuff in our garage (its there somewhere). I found these units on AMZ and they were the half the price of my other unit, so I said what the heck order two of them. I figured if they didnt work, I would return them to AMZ with their ironclad guarantee. Didnt have to, worked as described and quite happy with them. These units do not require a hub and you install them with your router. Havent quite figured out they do other then the units first power up as a router and then you connect and they become a pass through to your regular router. I have other devices that use this method and it seems a bit odd but it works. Either way, no hub or setting up a network account with someone. They have been in for several days not and work great. I now have a very interesting Networks, my hub system, Wifi bulbs using a network account to store schedule and settings and now these devices. As long as I can keep it straight as to what device belongs to which network, should be good.

> 3 dayThis review is for the Wi-FI version of the outlet, NOT the standard remote control (non-Wi-Fi) version. An outstanding product. Unboxed, plugged in, connected to wi-fi, and was using the app on my phone in about ten minutes. Pros: * Easy to connect to wi-fi * Has a variety of settings that are easily accessed through the app on my iPhone: Programmable Timer, Countdown Timer, Astronomic Timer, Vacation Random, and Security Random. The Programmable Timer (a multi-day timer) is easy to set and adjust. * You can give a custom name to the device(s) that you are controlling. I called mine icicle lights. * Has two outlets. Its worth noting that the two outlets can not be controlled independently. Whatever settings you use for one outlet have to be used for the second outlet. * Has a simple on/off switch on the app so I can easily override the programmed settings. * A good value for the cost. Cons: * Havent found any so far. Setup: * MY WiOn 50049 Outdoor Wi-Fi Outlet (2 outlets), is connected to an Airport Extreme router. The WiOn app is installed on my iPhone 6s. Works very nicely. Used to connect my icicle lights to my wi-fi network. No more having to go up and down the stairs to turn them on and off or fiddling with a clunky digital timer or reprogramming the timer when the power goes out. One thing to note: When the app searches for the router, it can take a few minutes for it to find it, depending on the speed of your mobile device.

> 3 dayIve had this unit for a while and all of a sudden stopped connecting. I went on the WIOn website and selected support. A chat window opened. After some back and forth dialogue and correction steps (which did not work) the agent said that they would charge me $55 to correct the issue because they are a third party...and WiOn does not have customer support. What?!? No idea whats going on. I can but a whole new unit for that, and the idea that one would pay to get basic customer support from the vendor is ludicrous. Beware.

> 3 dayWe bought to use with the app and turn on roof heaters when we are away. It’s funky the way it connects to the Wi-Fi compared to other plugs and frequently goes offline when other Wi-Fi devices are still on and fine. Just not very seamless.

Greater than one weekFantastic device, quite easy to set up and it seems to be working reliably after 4 days in use. I am using it to remotely control a pond aerator that requires a very specific on/off schedule. An added benefit of using a WIFI-enabled device in the cloud is that I know the house power and my home wifi network are functioning generally, and also that the aerators circuit has not tripped the GFI. This unit can handle 15 amps and 1000 watts, well above the 1/3 hp 5-amp draw (650 watts) of my pond aerator motor. The WiOn app on my iPhone is easy to use and offers great programming flexibility as well as manual on/off override independent of the time settings.
