I was needing a cutting mat to use mainly for hand cutting vinyl shapes for my sign making business. Most of the cuts are made with a razor sharp x-acto knife. The mat provides the perfect surface as it allows the slightest penetration of the blade that which allows the cutter excellent control of the blade and excellent smooth cuts. If a straight edge is used as a guide this is the perfect surface to allow smooth tracing of the edge, thus safe effortless cutting. These mats last many years because of their self-healing property. Even a fairly vigorous cut through a heavy plastic material causes only the slighest damage to the surface which immediately closes itself almost completely. A great product for covering any work surface.

I recently used my Crafty World mat with a rotary cutter. There are no scratches, cuts, or any indication that I used the mat. Unlike the expensive Olfa mat I purchased in the fall of 2017, used my rotary cutter on it and it is full of cuts even though it claimed to be self-healing. When searching for a new mat, I spoke to the sales ladies at my favorite fabric store and they recommended contacting Olfa regarding the mat. Followed up with Olfa and the representative I spoke with recommended rotating the mat or flipping it over! Really? I guess I could not have figured that out for myself! Needless to say I told the Olfa rep that I will turn the mat over and throw it away, letting anyone who is looking for a mat for a rotary cutter to look to Crafty World Self-Healing mat because this product is truly self healing. As much money as I spent, the very least Olfa could have done would be to replace the mat or my money—negative on both...Olfa who? Great product Crafty World. I will continue telling my quilting and rotary cutter friends about your mat! Thanks to Amazon for having another quality product.

This is a good quality mat. I love the size of this mat, the markings that extend outside declared measurements, and that it is double sided. It did have a strong vinyl odor when it arrived, but that dissipated fairly quickly. It lies flat and the measurements are accurate. I bought this mat to cut fabric, and for that I have to say Ive used other cutting mats over the years that worked better. The surface is a little too slippery. It doesnt grip the fabric like a dedicated fabric cutting mat does, so you have to be careful about how you move your cutting guide because your fabric may not stay in place. However, as long as my rotary blades are sharp and Im careful with my rulers, its okay.

    Greater than one week

Ive done approximately a dozen cutting projects on this mat since I purchased it and its held up perfectly. Ive been using a Fiskars titanium rotary cutter on the mat and while I havent done heavy materials such as denim as yet the mat has healed perfectly. I cant see on single scratch on it. I read other reviews about having issues with scars on the mat...I have no idea what others are using as a cutter on the mat or how much pressure they are using but I have used the mat as intended and it looks like it did when it was unpacked. It is shipped well...flat and protected. There is a smell upon unpacking. I personally identify the smell as typical made in China plastic smell. Ive encountered the same odor on my iPad cases, phone cases, etc. I for one dont think the odor is offensive. It is there and it does go away pretty quickly when the items are exposed to air. Its not roses but its not noxious. While I didnt sniff the mat daily to see if the odor was still there I can say I didnt notice the smell after a couple of days when I entered the room and moved the mat. Store it flat. I generally leave it on top of the table unless I need that space for the sewing machine or the laptop and then I just slide it under a bookcase in the room. It arrived in perfect condition and it works as its supposed to. The mat is identical to the photographs and description. I couldnt ask for more!

Very disappointed that this cutting mat was only put in an envelope to ship. It needs to be in a box to prevent bending. I have had weights on this for three days with no improvement. The mat itself is great.

As a crafter expanding my horizons, i LOVE this mat as it, in conjunction with other tools has assisted in opening a door to new adventures. There is an initial chemical smell upon opening it, but hey, of course there is, because it is a chemical based product, so dont let that be part of your review unless you were expecting rosemary and thyme, which would be bizarre to begin with. I have a small crafting space, so the variety of sizes allowed me to select the perfect mat for my space. I am also struggling with the realization of aging, arthritis and joint pain, so being able to use the rolling cutter instead of the pinking shears is helpful, and this mat aids in that process. I cannot attest to how long it will last, but for now, after an initial heavy use project, it appears brand new.

I bought this with the hope of protecting the top of my workbench when Im cutting balsa or covering materials. My wife who is an avid quilter suggested it for me. Im not sure how long it will last but its pretty cool the way it self heals! Ive also found that the various lines on the mat come in handy. No negatives to report thus far.

Great for our family for light crafts use. Just the right amount of flexibility for cutting uses on a flat surface, but rigid enough to be used for cutting stuff on a chair simply on your lap (obviously with great care). Also, Ive found this useful to help flatten out a small amount of curled up documents when filing things (to be scanned).) The smell that people have noted was there slightly, but went away in a day or so. There has been no other problems on that end, and this is coming from a family that is very allergic to small things =)
