These headphones are a bargain for around 100 dollars. Theres nothing that can really compete with them: audio is very accurate and seemed to be tuned flat across all range. Bass is present but its not overwhelming and I definitely prefer it over the M50X, which in my opinion have a bit of emphasized and boomy bass compared to the M40X. Treble is perfect, maybe a tiny bit emphasized, but nothing as the Sony MDR 7506, which I think have too much Highs. Im quite pleased with the sound isolation and the comfort of these headphones, theres not much sound leakage, it may leak at maximum or above average volume but I guarantee that at listening level nothing gets out.

Look, they sound amazing, but if you want them to sound good you NEED a new set of pads. The only earpads Ive found that dont change the sound are the brainwavz ProStock M-series sheepskins, theyre designed specifically for this. Cow hides from zmf are also great BUT the sound wont be the same. I leave it up to you to determine whether or not you want to change it. I prefer the original sound, I love how in your head these are, they do this while somehow maintaining detail and instrument separation. However, if you want more bass and soundstage the cowhides are a good decision.

After much youtube and amazon review researching I settled on the ATH-M40X and I like them very much.

I have one pair of this for almost 3 years now, and I ordered another one, so I could have one at work. Still the comfiest headphones I have ever had, and I can just recommend it!

Noticeable crackling when certain frequencies are played and are amplified by the volume the headphones are at. Other than this the headphones are AMAZING. Thinking about getting a replacement though.

Fragile Plastic Swivel. This is the second time that the swivel on the ear cups has broken. The headphones sound great and are comfortable. The build, on the other hand, is extremely cheap. The swivel seems to be make of a lightweight and fragile plastic.

These are comfortable and sound great. I love being able to switch out the cord easily. It comes with straight and coiled cords. I ordered the short cord and am glad that I did, even though it was a little expensive for a cord. I got these because we are going to an open office concept and needed something to shut out sound. I got these instead of noise-cancelling phones. Very pleased with the comfort and sound quality. Of course, they are sound-isolating studio monitor-type headphones, so they are not quite as comfortable as open-air type phones.
