These ferro rods throw a nice shower of sparks, and the lanyard hole is a nice feature when using as well as carry.

Sparks very easily. Burns very hot. You don’t have to scrape off pieces of the ferro rod, just spark with steel. Packs nicely in a backpack. Takes up very little space.

Both rods I received did not work but maybe one strike out of 20! Im fairly experienced with ferro rods and these things are terrible. Maybe I received two duds as another reviewer mentioned. I was using a dedicated striker also that has a great striking edge and throws showers of sparks on other ferro rods.

Nice little fire starter. Solid item, easy to use.

Nice shower of sparks that stay hot for a long while to catch your tinder. Big thick size means plenty for my hands to hang onto. Will mount into a .50 shell for a handle, and enjoy using for a long time to come.

Upon arrival I put this into an antler handle and started testing it for extreme weather fire starting. This item perform 10 times better than the 1/4 sheath mounted units I had been using. It is a bit large with the handle but when you absolutely need a fire in bad weather this is the tool you want to have in your pack.

Works just fine. You dont need to drop a ton of money on a fancy ferrocerium rod to get one that works; these do just fine. If youre not getting great sparks, press harder into the rod when scraping. If there is some moisture, you can carefully, slowly scrape a little pile of ferrocerium into your tinder bundle and then spark to ignite that. I will say, these are a pretty hard compound, so it can be a bit rough on the spine of a knife (if the spine isnt as hardened as the edge). Thats the case with my Bark River, so I use a scraper with it. Works great.

1/2"× 5"" Pack of 2

  • Can be used for the kitchen as well as survival.
  • Not only for emergency bug-out bags, but also for gifts.

Size Comparison

  • Large size( 1/2"" thick) means plenty for your hands to hang onto. If you have large hands, we recommend the large size.
  • The 3/8"" × 4"" is big enough for easier strikes and small enough to carry.

How to use

  1. Scrape away the coating to expose shiny metal before first use.
  2. Hold the ferro rod close to the tinder at about a 45-degree angle. Place the scraper near the top of the rod.
  3. Pull the rod back (away from the tinder) with a slow and steady motion.
