(The good) incredible sharp, accurate color picture. It looks amazing. I also did not notice any rainbows. Very easy on the eyes even with all the lights off. Not loud at all. (The bad) it lacks brightness. You must have black out curtains or better yet a true theater room or only use at night. This thing does-not like light at all. It can been seen during the day but washes out so bad. I compared this with the epson 3800. It was a close decision as its a sharp nice sharp picture with amazing colors. In the end I chose the epson 3800 since the contrast was amazing and the colors would pop. I could even use it during the day no problem. Wish I could just own both but the wife said no ha ha.

Okay so I currently live in a dorm so I cant utilize this projector to its fullest but soon Ill have my own theatre room. Anyway heres a short video of the projector in action. Just on my plain wall which is white paint. The blacks are actually amazing. I cant imagine what this will look like on a silver or black screen. I cant stress how good HDR looks! I own a QLED TV and wow this is comparable with the extra movie emersion! As you can hear the sound is not bad if youre on a budget and cant buy a surround sound system yet. No worries this can still deliver quality sound. No changes in settings. I just plugged it in and turned it on. Only adjustments needed were the focus ring. I also liked the remote. Especially the satisfying clicking feel and sound from pressing the buttons. Overall I have poor conditions for a projector setup right now yet this projector performs brilliantly. UPDATE!! 2AUG19: the blacks produced are so good I highly recommend a white or grey screen otherwise you lose the vivid colors. I only watch in dark so its pointless to have a black screen. UPDATE!! 10AUG19: got my new silver ticket white matte screen. This paired with the projector makes me feel like Im in the movie theater.

I owned at least 8 projectors in my life time and this is the best projector I ever owned. The 4k on this is extremely sharp the colors are vibrant and the image brightness at 2000 lms is bright enough for my semi darken room. It throws a powerful image I found that the cinema mode is the best. This projector is not noisy at all very quiet. The only issue I have is that it throws a lot of heat wont notice if mounted on the ceiling I have mine next to me on a table. Other than that I love this projector.

I was hopeful that passage of time and technology improvements would make this a better projector than my unconverting 2k to 4k. ....not so much. :-(

Disclaimer: This is my first projector but I am very impressed overall. I was at one time planning on shelling out close to 3k for the Epsom 5050 (which does look amazing) but then I realized I had planned my home theater room without a huge throw distance from projector to screen (just under 9 feet) and I was hoping to use a 110 screen. My fears that the Epsom might not quite have the throw ratio I needed led me to look at this BenQ and Im glad I did. This BenQ isnt what they call a short throw projector but it does have a more generous throw ratio than most other regular home cinema projectors. Im pleased to say that the picture is stunning and the price saving enabled me to invest in a better amp and speakers for the room. I bought a Panasonic 4K Blu-ray player (UB 420) and it looks stunning in both 4k and 3D. It will make you want to stock up on 3D movies. I have a dark dedicated home theater in a basement and I can imagine this could struggle in a room with natural light. They also say this isnt a great projector for gaming but I have hooked up my PS4 to it and had a great experience. To be fair, Im not an online gamer where I suppose the input lag could be detrimental. However, for local gaming (1 player campaign/story or multiplayer split-screen) I dont notice any lag at all, just a big beautiful image. It has a very nice backlit remote too. I have had a few moments where I have had some glitches from the 4K Blu Ray signal and had to restart the projector but that has been my only negative. This issue might be unique to my individual unit though. Overall, I love it and I know you will too if you have a dark room, especially for the price. Update: I have since had several problems, first with my original unit and then with a replacement. Now Benq arent answering support calls or responding to emails. I know we are in the midst of a pandemic but this still isnt good enough for such a big company. Ive lost all faith in the brand. Stay away!

This was the projector Ive been waiting for . Got the Epson 8350 seven years ago, still works great. Replaced the bulb twice but now was the time to upgrade. It was very quiet located in the back of my movie room. Opened the HT3550 with much anticipation, mounted it on the ceiling but due to the limited throw rate, it had to be mounted right over my first row of theater chairs. I have a 92 screen. So disappointed with the loud fan noise overhead. Loved the excellent picture quality, especially the black level . Anyway thought I could live with the fan noise and went through normal setup but about one hour into the process the bulb shut down, projector turned off and the red TEMP or LAMP light came on. Called Benq tech support and was told that should not happen to a new HT3550. So I reluctantly returned the projector for a very quick exchange from Amazon. Thank you. Set up the second HT3550 and started watching movies. This time about two hours into the viewing, the bulb just turned off without the TEMP or LAMP light coming on. Green power light was still on. I let the projector cool down and when I turned it back on it worked fine. Watched two more movies that evening and everything went well. However, the next day, when I tried to turn on the projector, I could not get the HT3550 to turn on. Yes, the green light(s) were on so I knew I had power. Tried everything using the remote and the projector panel. Went through every troubleshooting suggestion I could find. Never could get the projector to turn on. Checked all wiring just to be sure. So I returned the replacement projector.

I have wanted a projector for a long time, and finally was able to get one. I did a lot of research, and i really loved hat i had read about this one. This projector is great. It is a 1080 projector with pixel shifting, so they can call it 4k. It supports HDR and has a wide color range. The latest firmware added ARC. Projector also supports 3d if thats your thing, I had a passive 3dtv that i thought was good, this is fantastic!!! Its really what 3d should be. I have watch a few 4k movies on it and it puts out a beautiful picture. I have also watch a lot blu-ray movies and it up converts great. What was my real surprise was watching old tv shows that were of not great quality. I feared seeing it blown up on a 110 screen was going to make it impossible to enjoy, and i am glad I was wrong. It even made old Andy Griffith shows look great. Now i am not going to lie, mounting this was not fun. Where it mounts, it is not flush, so you have to be pretty creative with the mounting bracket you use. If you choose not to mount it and just have it on a table, you should have no worries. You really need to read the mounting instructions well though, and make sure you have the room to do it. This is a shorter throw projector, so you can get a 110 screen from a little over 8ft away, but i wish i would have went with a 100 because of the room. If you follow the instructions even an idiot with no experience or confidence in doing anything like this can do it pretty well. It just make take a little longer than a professional. Dont let the price fool you, you are getting a high end projector in the BenQ th3550. This projector is beautiful in a dark room, and still looks good in low light, or light not directly on it. In a bright room its going to look washed out. Benq has the TK850 projector that is better in more light, so if you cant control your lighting that maybe better for you, but if you can control your lighting, again you cannot get better than this.

I was tossing the idea of an 88” TV vs. 120” projector. Sure am glad I went with 120” Benq projector. I added a Sony home theatre surround system and made our room the complete experience. Wow, sports and movies are amazing!
