Two months in and fan quit $$$

This Benq projector rocks! 3D is perfect - with a projection size of 120 inches is a total imersion - great experience - movies wich I found not so good now lock enhanced. I was wasting my time with a 3D TV a projector is the answer if you are a 3D enthusiast. 4K HDR with a dark room is fantastic - cinema at home! Although it is not meant for living room viewing I watched the Superbowl on it and even with some lights on it is perfect image. It has VIVID TV and BRIGHT mode to make it possible some living room experience. For me a perfect purchase.

I have been an installer and enthusiast for over 20 years. My first install was a giant Barco RGB projector which put out a whopping 800 lumens. Projectors have come along way in every aspect. I chose this projector because I have a room that I can control all the lighting. I am able to make the room almost 100% black. This projector is absolutely stunning considering both the size and price point. It handles 4K material flawlessly. I must note that I installed the projector and used a fiber optic HDMI cable so I do not lose any signal along the path. I am shooting this onto a 100 fixed screen with a gain of 1.1, and it looks absolutely amazing. The lens shift is very helpful but note it is only vertical. There are multiple reviews out there with preferred settings to use to achieve maximum picture quality. So I will add mine. Lighting controlled room: Dynamic Iris: High Light Mode: Eco Picture: Cinema (If you set the 4K to Auto this will auto switch to H10 when 4K material is detected) Brilliant Color: On Wide Color Gamut: Off (I know I will get dinged for this, but my family enjoys a slightly brighter picture) Silence: Off We have viewed several movies from DVDs, to Streaming, to 4K Blu-Rays, and this projector will bring out the best in all of them. With that said, please keep in mind that a DVD at best is only 480p, which means it will look the worst on the projector, or any other 4K display. The only gaming I have done is on a regular PS4. I did not notice any lag, but I am not a competitive gamer. Finally, I must address lag from an audio perspective. The video is stunning and the visuals will blow you away when this is set up correctly and you are viewing good source material. There is inherent audio lag/delay when using a projection system depending how far away your projector is from your receiver. In my case, I purchased a 50 fiber optic HDMI cable so I could run it through the walls. Although fiber optic cables have more bandwidth to transport the entire unaltered signal, they are not any faster than a copper cable. Physics still apply here and the signal still has to travel the length of the cable. Not to mention the conversion to and from light at both ends. For my system, the magic number was 50ms of delay on the audio. This syncs up perfectly with the image. I would assume there is a calculation that can be found online for this, but I simply used a little logic and some trial and error. There is roughly 10ms delay for every 10 of cable. You may never notice it if you are running cable directly to a TV, but its there. When your image is 100+ inches, it is hard to ignore. Finally, I have viewed an installed several projectors that where 10 - 20 times more expensive than this projector. This is the happiest I have been with a small format projector, and I do not feel as though I am losing any performance. I know there are bigger and better projectors out there, but I challenge you to find one for less than double the cost. As with all reviews, please take this with a grain of salt as this is just my experience. I would recommend this projector to anyone who asks.

Perfect picture

Its awesome i love it for my movie nights

I am a first time projector owner...all I can say is that I am amazed at how far along projectors have come. I’ll not a videophile but I know the different between 1080p and 4K and know enough about black levels and things like that to know when a picture is good and this unit has it all. My only complaint which is not really a defect is that I wish it was a little brighter. Again it’s not really an issue with the projector and they do offer another model that’s made for brighter rooms but I wanted this model since their higher lumen version will not match the color depth of this one. Overall i didn’t know what to expect when I got this but I love it. I have also tried the 3d but it’s just way too dark for my taste but my wife didn’t seem to care. Just my preference I guess. I may try using the BenQ glasses instead of the cheaper ones I bought on amazon to see if that helps but overall I wasn’t pleased. The images were very dark with a lot of ghosting in some scenes. Overall I highly recommend this projector for the price...you won’t be disappointed.

My first projector so I cant really compare it to any other but I bought it after a lot of research and Im very satisfied

I bought the ht3550 16 months ago. It has failed 4 times. Benq has sent me 3 of them and 1 was repaired. The DMD chip fails after 4 to 6 months. A white pixel will show up. Then before you know it , there are dozens. I returned the first one after 4 months because of big white spots. They sent a new one. 5 months later I sent it for repair. They sent a new one. 3 months later I sent it infor repair. Got a new one. Sent that in for repair and it was repaired. Customer service aint great so its a real pain. The last repair I asked for bulb replacement (4000 hours) and was told the bulb should last 20,000 hours. There is no way that it true. Its only 2000 lumens anyway. Turned out they were just out of stock on the bulbs. Thats a problem too. Customer service doesnt care about making things right so look at optoma or epson.

four stars cuz i have a flicker that happens on the right side of the screen for ceiling mount. i contacted BenQ and they were very accommodating with the process for repair or replace. They told me id be sending my projector in they will try and repair it or just send me a new one.

Only real dislike is that superimposed images and information, still or scrollng are jittery and it really annoys me. If is audition a 4k projector that does not do this then I will buy it if the price is not ridiculous. This may not be the fault of the 3550 but the broadcaster, that is to be determined.
