It irks me to pay $10 a piece for these kits, when I know I can refill them with 50 cents worth of charcoal myself and rinse the sponge. However, after doing just that for a while, I have switched back to the kits. Its worth the money for the convenience, and Spot (my goldfish) gets slightly cleaner water, which makes her happy. The 6-packs are cost-effective, and after the second swap, I forget about the cost and appreciate the ease of changing them out. On the other hand, the design and engineering of the filter pack is truly horrid (whether you use the kit or not), and the difficulty of getting the tabs to line up and lock in place makes every filter change a hassle. If you dont yet have a Biorb system, I would highly recommend you dont get one. You will be locked into a system of overpriced, yet poorly designed accessories. Too bad, because they are beautiful to look at.

These dont seem to be as good as they used to. This one had hardly any of the charcoal and white stuff that helps clean the bowl.

Just what we ordered and nice to have supplies on hand to maintain the bioOrb.

If you have a biorb tank this is a no brainer and must have. It is very easy to use and it really keeps the tank clean. The price could be lower but I guess that’s expected with the biorb.

Ive had a betta for a few years. Being economic and well researched I would rinse my filter in the old tank water during clean up and place it back in the filter. Well over time it became a unappealing color obviously and I said hey, why not get a new one. So after ordering in placing the new filter in the tank everything seem to look perfectly well. Im not going to blame this product for killing my fish but the fact is it died a week later. I could notice the discoloration after two days in the fishes scales. And then he was no longer able to swim in late on the bottom of the tank. This was heartbreaking and I cant help but wonder if he would still be alive if I had just kept the routine with the usual filter.
