> 24 hourI was using a inkjet printer for my business which is great for color prints and I still use but then my online sales began taking off and I was printing shipping labels like crazy. The price of inkjet ink was killing me and the slow print times. After a month I purchased this printer on Amazon. WOW it prints crazy fast and over the last year I printed 10,000 envelopes, 500 package slip and paper invoices, and college papers for my teenager. My best guess is 15,000 prints and I havent changed a cartage yet and have had very few misprints. I would buy this again I am incredibly happy with this purchase.

> 24 hourAfter printing just 75 copies, the pages started smudging at the top. Now after contacting Brother support and cleaning the drum 3 times, I have random dots over the entire page. The recommended solution: Buy new drum unit and toner cartage, they are not covered by warranty. Cost: more than I paid for the printer less than a month ago.

> 24 hourI thought all printers were wi-fi. This is a heavy and pretty large printer, but it square and fit perfectly in my closet where my router was, so I was able to plug it in. I got it because my old printer did not support direct printing from tablets and phones. That part works really well for me. Duplex printing works great, too. Ive also printed shipping labels and envelops using the document tray. Its a really well thought out machine. I like Brother printers over HP because they dont add all this extra software. I could just load the drivers and windows 10 found the printer. Brother printers have letters DNW. D means device printing, N means plugs into a router for network printing and W means it can attach to the network via wi-fi which is good if the printer will not be near an ethernet port. This printer is just DN and thats probably why the price was so good.

> 24 hourI really like all of these little brother laser printers. This HLL5100DN is so easy to set up: you plug them into your router with a wired cord, and you search for a new printer in windows. Windows will automatically find the driver and youre good to go. You can also plug the printer in with a USB cord, but then its harder to share or printer from a tablet or phone. I take the extra step of giving the printer a static IP. If you have a network printer and you have problems every so often with the computers not finding the printer, setting the printer to a fixed or static IP will often solve that. This is the base model of the 2016 line of Brother B&W laser printers. I dont think its any less sturdy than higher models, but it has less features. To the average consumers, the biggest loss in features is that this model does not have wireless networking. This printer needs to connect to your router with a network cable (or your computer with a USB cable). If you need wireless you need to get at least one of the 5200 printers instead of this 5100. Currently the L5200DW is only $4 more than this L5100DN, so you might want to check the price difference even if you dont need the wireless now. Also, the paper tray on this 5100 and the 5200 is 250 sheets. Dont believe the comparison on this page, the L5200DW has a 250 sheet tray. The comparison in the information that says the L5200DW holds 570 sheets is wrong (its 250 tray and 50 sheet side side tray for 300 just the the L5100DN). If you use this for a workgroup or just print a lot, I really suggest the L6200DW. At least check the price because right now its $10 more! The 520 sheet main tray means you can throw in a full ream of paper when it runs out. Its so much nicer that way! You can get a 3000 or a 6000 page cartridge. The other main consumable is the drum which is rated for 30,000 pages (but usually doesnt quite make it that far). If its used for heavy printing the L6200DW can do a 12,000 page cartridge too. Other that the extra large cartridge, the 5100, 5200, and the 6200 all take the same supplies. Yes, because its a brother, its easy to get third party supplies. But, I find the drums wear out faster with third party supplies and the only Brother printers Ive seen the fuser die early were ones using third party supplies (and Im a computer tech--I see a lot of Brother printers). If Im making one complaint, this years laser models have the screen down in the printer and at an angle, but you look through a window that is flat with the top of the printer. You have to be more straight on to see the screen than previous years models. If the printer ends up on a shelf or low down, its harder to see. With the model line before this, I could see the screen sitting at my desk--I have to go over to the printer to see the screen now. The only time Ive looked at the screen is when its out of paper, so its not a big deal. But it is a little inconvenience. In the end, theres nothing wrong with this printer. But I would definitely price compare with the L5200DW and the L6200DW. At the current prices, I dont see why you wouldnt buy the L6200DW. Prices fluctuate so this may not be true for ever!

> 24 hourThis is the 7th Brother printer that we have in our office. Previously I have used HP, Lexmark, Dell, Ricoh and Canon printers. In my, in my experience Brother are the most reliable and trouble free printers. After about 4 - 5 years, they start giving you error messages like replace parts, replace drum etc. That is usually the time to replace the printer. At 42 ppm, this is a fast and 250 page capacity printer. Print quality is not the best but decent and acceptable. Cost of printing per page is low. Brother toners are generally lot more expensive and on Amazon, you can find cheaper toners and ink from other aftermarket manufacturers. The high capacity 8000 pages Brother TN850 toner for this printer is currently priced $108 at Amazon, which translates to 1.35 cents per page and if you buy after market toner, it will be even less expensive. The printer is easy to set up. Wired network connection is trouble free. I have not used this printer with wireless setup but based on my past experience, wireless connections are not as stable and off and on you may have to re-establish WiFi connection again or reset the network connection. You can also print from your mobile device. An optional second tray can be attached. Changing settings from small monochrome screen is not easy but lot of the settings can be changed from web page using the printers IP address. In my experience, Brothers technical support is not that good, their tech support reps are not knowledgeable and well trained about products. This is a fast and reasonably priced printer for a small office.

> 24 hourThis printer printed about 10 pages, then began to dim the lights in the office and post data errors, and other errors on the front panel. Maybe we just got a dud, but I would suggest a different model...
