I suggest that if you have small children (2 1/2 years old and up), buy the Classical Baby Poetry DVD. My son is fascinated by the images and poetry, and the classical music is very soothing for him. When he is more able to understand language, Im sure hell enjoy it even more!

my 14-month-old has been watching this video since about 6-months of age, whenever i cut her nails. it was also the only thing that calmed her down when we had to give her masked breathing treatments for an acute illness at 6-months. she absolutely loves the brief kids interviews and even favors one particular girl and boy; she gets giddy whenever they come on. i find the short interviews (several seconds; up to 1/2 minute maybe?) to be wonderful transitions and good pacers. the children actually seem quite bright. i talk to my daughter about the video while cutting her nails; she has actually learned a lot of receptive language from the interactions. my husband and i really like the variety of poetry and animation, as well as the different voices performing/reading the poetry. very well presented. we really, really, really, wish there were more poetry videos to come. we also have the set of 3 (dance, art, music), but this one has always been the most captivating for our daughter.

My 2 year old granddaughter loves this show. She even says some of the poems along with the show. The selection of poetry is excellent and the celebrity readers do a wonderful job. My granddaughter finds the poetry soothing and we watch it around bed time or quiet time.

The other classical baby episodes are excellent, but this one is not. It feels like a grownup telling a kid what they should be interested in instead of being something that kids (much less babies) would genuinely like. We have all 6 episodes and play all of them weekly except for this episode that we have to skip over. It is not worth watching

I am not a poetry person but I do love this poetry DVD.]I appreciate watching the pictures / art. They are so beautiful and creative. My baby loves watching other children talk. She loves the songs. I wish the DVD can be longer. it feels like 15 minutes long to me.

This video is amazing, littles ones are mesmerized. It is great to put on to calm down. Adults and children alike love this video. It is favorite to give as gifts.

We baught the poetry and music dvds after we tried the dance and art. As I said in my other review, we are very pleased with them. I love the children discussing poetry and the selection of poetry on this dvd.

My baby loves the Classical Baby videos and my husband and I kind of enjoy watching them as well. She doesnt seem to like this one quite as much (it is aimed at an older audience, so she is a bit young for it), but its still a really good addition to the Classical Baby collection. These videos are both educational and relaxing- the Poetry Show has similar qualities. It differs, however, because there are these super smart young kids explaining the elements of poetry and, at times, reading poetry (I love that my little munchkin will see these kids being excited about it!). I mostly liked the poetry choices, too. I recommend this to parents.

Its one of those dvds where you dont feel too bad about plopping your kids in front of the tv. Educational and engrossing for the youngsters.

Young children are instinctively drawn to the sound of rhyming words and the rhythmic cadence of poetry. Add colorful animation, music, and footage of real elementary age children, and Classical Baby has created an appealing half-hour program that encourages an early appreciation of poetry. Produced in association with The Poetry Foundation, Classical Baby: The Poetry Show is a compilation of 13 favorite poems from poetry masters like William Shakespeare, John Keats, Woodie Guthrie, and Gertrude Stein. Famous personalities including Gwyneth Paltrow and Susan Sarandon recite poems like Elizabeth Barrett Browning"s "How Do I Love Thee?" and Robert Frost"s "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening." William Carlos Williams reads his own "This is Just to Say" while Hoagy Carmichael performs Johnny Mercer"s "Skylark" and young children recite poems like William Carlos Williams" "The Red Wheelbarrow." Poems are accompanied by bright animation that"s highly appealing to children and many are followed by brief comments from elementary age children. Some preschool and elementary-age viewers will be transfixed by the entire production while others will pick and choose the segments they find interesting, but what"s most important is that every young viewer gains exposure to the art of poetry. --Tami Horiuchi
