I was skeptical about this soldering station at first as it does look a bit like a toy to me instead of something more industrial/professional. I was also unfamiliar with the brand name until recently. I checked all the reviews I could find on it online and they all highly recommended it. It heats up very quickly and has enough heat capactity (65 watts) to easily solder 10 gauge wires to terminals. It would be very difficuly if not impossible to do with my old soldering station which only puts out 22 watts. The pen itself is comfortable and doesnt get hot even after the iron is left on for 30 minutes. The tips are fantastic and they have a variety of shapes and sizes available for most any job. I like the digital display that reads out the temperature and makes changing the settings easy. If you are thinking of a new soldering station and are a bit hesitant like I was, take the plunge and get this one. You wont regret it!

Move over expensive Weller etc irons....this thing is excellent, consistent temps and heats up VERY fast. Been using it for 2 years steadily and still love it. Dont let the price fool you, lotta pros using this one.

This is the last and only soldering station you will ever need. The power unit is small and has a nice weight to it. The reason I like this is because the cord is quite long so if you happen to mount the power unit on a shelf above to save yourself valuable workspace you dont have to worry about it toppling down on top of your head if you happen to test the limits of your cord length. The construction of this entire station is top notch. I almost dont want to use it so it stays this pristine. It is hard to tell from the pictures but the housing of the power unit is plastic. However the actual iron stand is all a nice heavy beautifully coated metal. You can basically throw this iron into the stand and it stays put which really resonates with me from a hassle free operation stand point. The sponge and cleaning wire are right where you need them. Tap tap on the sponge, dip in the wire. Done. The bottom of the of the stand drops out with the push of a tab for easily getting random solder bits that build up in there over time. This is something not many people would think of which is why I love it so much. The iron heats up really fast. 750 degrees Fahrenheit in less than 30 seconds and youre off and burning. Immediate temperature feedback is really nice for instances where you need to know your level for going from large lots of heat jobs to small little circuit boards without skipping a beat or burning anything. The extra tips are nice to have. They dont give you a bunch of similar ones. There is a good mix of larger chisels all the way to fine point tips. All in all if you are looking for your last or first and only soldering station you can not go wrong with this unit. Do yourself a favor and buy Hakko.

This is so, so much better than my old Radio Shack iron! This thing heats up fast! My only gripe is that it is easy to accidentally decalibrate. The interface for adjusting temps is rather poorly designed.

The temp adjust is a bit finicky but it’s nice it can be done. I found that running a higher temp for my 63/37 solder was better than running per formula. Iron is easy to handle and having the ability to change tips quickly is an advantage. It is a good design although wish the display was a bit tilted up for better viewing. Heats up quickly. Easy to pick temps. I prefer using the presets which must be turned on to use. The manual isn’t difficult to follow and use. I do suggest watching the several videos online supplied by hakkousa. I think those reviews knocking this station are too critical and more likely due to user error.

Is it the compact size? Is it the high quality build? Is it the professional level heat control? Is it the proliferation of accessories? Is it the range of tips you get with this model? Maybe its all of the above!

A really solid purchase. I looked at the various items separately and this saved me an additional $20.00, not to mention the good deal to start with on the soldering station. Now on the soldering station: this is a very well built and well thought out tool. Everything feels substantial (not a toy) and functions well. It comes up to temperature remarkably fast and actually shows you by thermocouple and digital readout as it does. I assume the thermocouple is inside the rod that holds the tip (or tip plug) as clearly there is no active thermocouple in the tip. The interface is a bit klunky and requires reading the directions a couple of times, but once you set it like you want (either for manual operation or use the pre-sets), you can leave it alone and just use it. I suspect this is the last soldering iron I will ever need.

So far a great soldering iron. I dont have any complaints.

Reliable digital technology by HAKKO – Introducing the HAKKO FX-888D Excellent thermal recovery Heater output has been increased by 30% compared to that of the conventional models HAKKO 936·937. Also FX-888D delivers excellent thermal recovery by using T18 series tips for their terrific heat conductivity. This allows soldering at a lower set temperature and reducing the thermal impact on components as well as tip oxidation that can shorten tip life. Thermal recovery graph Rise time to 350Degree C is 20 seconds faster and tip temperature drop is reduced during continuous work. HAKKO FX-888D performance comparison graph with conventional stations Able to shorten the time required for the same work and improve work efficiency significantly. Designed to be User-Friendly Small footprint Compact station body requires a space of only 100 (W) x 120 (D) mm. What’s more, points that come into contact with the floor are positioned as close to the outer edge of the body as possible to improve stability and make the station difficult to fall over. Simple and easy operation With only two operation buttons of UP and ENTER in the center, operation is simple and easy. Even if you’re not familiar with operation of machines, you can operate it without difficulty. Iron holder with full of functions An iron holder of the same color of a soldering station comes as a set. The highly functional iron holder not only improves ease of use, but also brings a sense of visual consistency to the work environment. Silver Soldering station Iron holder Blue & yellow Soldering station Iron holder Strict temperature management Digital display The FX-888D’s digital display makes it easy to check the set temperature at a glance.
