> 24 hourHolds its temperature, has a nice hard ceramic coated metal (not cheap plastic like it appears in the photos), and holds its temperature to within a degree, making it great for fine-detailed SMD work or hard core tear-downs. Since the controller is a separate unit, the soldering pencil itself is very lightweight and easy to grip. Got mine with a nice assortment of tips which work great if you are persistent in keeping them clean after each use. The advantage to a temp-controlled soldering iron is that even those with rheostat adjusted control, the simply overheat the tip. Contrary to popular belief, the tip of the soldering iron is the most important and sensitive piece, and making sure that it doesnt overheat is the single best way to keep your tips working for years. Love this so far!

> 24 hourWhen I got involved with RC aircraft earlier in the year I thought I might need to do some infrequent soldering so bought the Aoyue 469. As time went on I found myself soldering far more frequently than anticipated especially after the hobby grew to encompass working with micro electronic controllers and experimenting with a variety of electronics on circuit boards. The Aoyue just didnt work well enough for what my hobby grew into. The soldering iron tip never tinned properly and inability to find other soldering tips that fit the iron properly just became too irritating. I bought the Hakko with the extra tips to cover needing to solder 12 to 24 gauge wires and also attach components to circuit boards. Very first thing I did was power up the iron and tin the tip. It was a great feeling to finally see a tip that would properly tin. Ive since had many opportunities to use the iron and its a great product. If your going to do a lot of soldering do yourself a favor and buy a good quality iron like this one.

> 24 hourThis soldering iron is great. Heats up quickly and maintains its heat well while soldering. I like that this has setpoints for soldering that can be quickly changed. Does not feel cheap at all and is heavier than I was expecting. I do recommend this soldering iron.

> 24 hourPurchased primarily for circuit board and electronic equipment use. My unit came with additional tips which I recommend. When used in my radio hobby some components in kits are very close to each other. It is really nice to be able to adjust the tip temperature to ensure good solder flow without damaging adjacent components. With the right tip this unit will work well with surface mount components and fairly heavy gauge wire, such as twelve gauge. I give this unit five stars for value because, although not inexpensive, it will prove its worth in many applications and is very well constructed. Before settling for a cheaper iron, save your nickles and dimes and get this unit. You will thank yourself every time you use it.
