> 3 dayIve been an electronic tech for over 40 years . Guess I never realised how BAD my old Weller was getting , when you use it every day I guess you dont notice . Anyway , the Hakko is like a breath of fresh air , light , easy to use melts much quicker . with the other one I was using 800 degree tips with this Im down around 725 degrees for general cable and PC board work . GREAT iron / station for the money . Ive had that same Weller since 1976 but the whole thing is the way it works with the magnet and all is a little archaic now and the parts they sell are crap !! (Weller NOT Hakko ) Cant believe I waited THIS LONG to switch !

> 3 dayMy first real solder station. Dont know how (or why) I lived without it. I need to find more projects to do! Comes with various size tips that should work for most general tasks. Ill probably order more for more specialized work. The instructions are not complete, but if you register on the Hakko site you get the more in depth manual with information on advanced settings.

Greater than one weekAfter soldering for a few years with a cheap iron I finally decided to upgrade. I bought the Hakko and couldnt be more thrilled. It has made soldering so much more fun and enjoyable. Heats up real quick, my old one took forever. It is small and easy to handle. The only thing is the U.I. It can be confusing but all you have to do is go to YouTube and search the iron and there are plenty of videos to help you through it; pretty easy after you learn. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone who is in the market for one. Do yourself a big favor and get this soldering iron, you will not regret it.

> 3 dayIve been soldering automotive and hobby stuff for 20 years, most of which with a Weller WLC100 solder station. I thought that was a pretty good piece of kit when I got it, and it served me fairly well. The Hakko FX-888D is on a whole other level and makes the Weller seem like a toy in comparison. It heats up nearly instantly (750°F in under 30 seconds) and maintains that heat even when soldering large wires and heavy terminals. The irons cord is very flexible, so youre not fighting it when performing precision work. Tips are easy to swap out, and this assortment comes with good variety for just about any task. The only thing I dont like is that I wasted 20 years soldering with a system that was 80% the price, but 40% as good.

Greater than one weekThis is considerably better than the Weller that I have used for years. You DO need to read the set up instructions as selecting the temperature is not that intuitive. The build quality is much better than I expected. The solder pen holder is all metal and plastic components are well formed and fit well. I have only used once to re-solder some board pins to an ethernet connector (fairly fine work) successfully. I like the fact you can control the temperature to fit the project your working on.
