> 3 dayThis Hakko Soldering Station with tips was an excellent purchase for my vintage electronics repair shop. I had an old Weller/Ungar soldering station that was my favorite, until they discontinued it and the tips for it. I tried a new Weller soldering station and it was okay, it had a really long and kludgy soldering iron, that just didnt hold up to the heat and came loose from the handle. The Hakko FX-888D is absolutely fabulous, the control unit takes up much less space, than the Weller. The iron is the right size for me. The cable is long enough to perform various soldering tasks without moving the base. The Hakko heats up extremely fast and has great temperature recovery, even when using a wet sponge. It is very easy to change temperature, once you download the manual from Hakko. The tips are great and are all very useful sizes. The iron with the largest tip on about 750 degrees has no problem flowing solder to chassis grounds. The space worked out so good that I was able to drill partial holes right in front of the Iron on the back of the bench and put the tips there for easy access and to keep them in order from small to large. Overall a fantastic product, I would definitely recommend the FX-888D for the hobbyist to the professional.

> 3 dayAwesome rig. Used the Hakko system at a place I worked at some years back and loved it then. This newer/updated system is even better.

> 3 dayThis works great!!! Heats up quickly. Easy to use and is priced right. I would improve the up-down heat control setting, a little awkward, but for the money I am still giving it a 5

> 3 dayThe control that you can get with this is amazing. I always had trouble with electronics before with my uncontrolled heat soldering iron melting everything. Now, I hook up the components, and they all work right off the bat.

> 3 dayWorks great! Value priced! Temp contoller seems to be spot on. Way better than those sub 50w units and very much worth the extra cost.

20-11-2024When I got involved with RC aircraft earlier in the year I thought I might need to do some infrequent soldering so bought the Aoyue 469. As time went on I found myself soldering far more frequently than anticipated especially after the hobby grew to encompass working with micro electronic controllers and experimenting with a variety of electronics on circuit boards. The Aoyue just didnt work well enough for what my hobby grew into. The soldering iron tip never tinned properly and inability to find other soldering tips that fit the iron properly just became too irritating. I bought the Hakko with the extra tips to cover needing to solder 12 to 24 gauge wires and also attach components to circuit boards. Very first thing I did was power up the iron and tin the tip. It was a great feeling to finally see a tip that would properly tin. Ive since had many opportunities to use the iron and its a great product. If your going to do a lot of soldering do yourself a favor and buy a good quality iron like this one.
