> 3 dayModern appliances (e.g., refrigerator, range, dishwasher, microwave, washer, dryer, security system console, TV, desktop) are expensive electronic gadgets that contain a system board. This product protects against sudden loss of power or fluctuation in voltage. Holms recommends this line of surge protector made by Eaton. After speaking with a tech rep from Eaton, I opted for the more expensive ULTRA. I also use a separate isolation transformer for my High Definition TV and a UPS for my desktop and peripherals.

> 3 dayThis is the third one we’ve bought. It’s only good for one big surge or lightning strike. Worth every penny

> 3 dayCant quite give it 5 stars, because I have yet to see or prove its efficacy. If our neighborhood gets hit by some crazy surge and knocks out my neighbors electronic equipment and mine remain unscathed, then I will revise the review. I am not an electrician, far from it, but the install was pretty easy. The hardest part was drilling the hole in the breaker box. Used an spare garden hose gasket between the surge arrestor and the box to keep the water out. Local electricians were charging $1080.00 for the install! Boy was I steered wrong in career counseling. Install was 15 minutes, if you quantify that per hour that is $4K an hour! If you have no experience with electricity or breaker boxes, I would highly recommend someone else to do the job that is comfortable with the work, and buy them a case of beer and a pizza. Also if you are considering getting a Type 1 or 2 surge protector like this, you might want to consider getting point of use surge arrestors (Type 3) << the power strip kind. I did my research and got Tripp Lite Protect It! Type 3 power strips (model TLP1008TEL). All Type 3 surge protectors pretty much have an expiration to them; however, the expiration of most of them are somewhat ambiguous in that they will continue to provide power to your electronic equipment, but the protection they originally offered when they are new will be absent depending upon how many times they have taken surges. The TLP1008TEL with cease to provide power to your electronic equipment once the protection has been exhausted. Also, none of these devices mentioned will help if your structure is hit with lightning (you will need lightning rods). These devices help from intrinsic and extrinsic surges (brown outs, black outs, compressor starts), and help prolong the longevity of your sensitive electronic equipment.

> 3 dayWell, I had it installed by my electrician. The green LEDs are glowing so I feel protected. Hope I never have to find out if it actually works. :)

> 3 dayWith previous wiring experience, this went in no problem. Now that Ive installed a whole house Surge Protection Device, well never get a bad surge again lol One comment; The male threads on the Surge device are not the same a standard 1/2 NPT. I re-did the threads on the female adaptor.
