> 3 dayNot a huge bag & it does seem pretty damp throughout, but it worked great for my crabs. As soon as I put them in their habitat, they quickly started digging & exploring through their new sand.

> 3 dayThis is an excellent, high quality substrate for hermit crabs-- worlds better than the calcium carbonate sand or plain Eco Earth that the pet stores sell and use for their crabs. It comes well packaged (no leakage of sand) and is very easy to reconstitute (just add distilled or dechlorinated water). My 5 crabs are extremely happy and comfortable in this substrate, and it provides a very attractive and hygienic crabitat. It really does encourage burrowing behavior, which is extremely important for hermit crabs. The one negative is the amount of substrate that you get for the cost. If you need several inches of substrate (3 x the depth of your largest crab, usually 5-6 or so) in a larger terrarium (I use a 20 gallon long tank), then you will need a lot of bags of this. I bought 4 bags of this, and I would probably need more like 10-12 to fully fill my tank to the right depth. I found that you can actually make almost identical sand for much less cost just by doing it yourself. Get silica sand from your local pet shop (I found 20# bags of CaribSea sand for $7) or even just play sand, mix in Eco Earth (also available at any pet shop) in a 4-5 parts sand to 1 part EE ratio, mix in a few ounces of crushed oyster shell or crushed coral (available on Amazon or the pet store), and add salt water (mixed from Instant Ocean, also from the pet store) until it reaches sand castle making consistency (I found that it took about 700 cc of seawater per 20# of sand, although use your own judgement.) Bingo! A lot more of the same substrate (short of the probiotic, whatever that is) for a lot less. Takes a bit more work, but not much, and if you have kids, its a fun thing for them to mix up. Otherwise, great product, and I would recommend it for all hermit crab enthusiasts. Your hermit crabs will survive much longer and happier with this substrate.

Greater than one weekI used this to fill wine bottles (1/4 full) with sand, small shells and fairy lights - painted the backs of the bottles blue - they looked like the beach at night! This sand mix was perfect - there are colors that layered dark/light in the bottles. The substrate mix was wet so I spread it out inside a large clear plastic trash bag, laid it in the sun, moved the mix around a few times and it dried out. Then, I filled the bottles. Great for crafts but easier to work with when dry.

> 3 dayThe package is smaller than you anticipate but it works just fine depending on how big your crab setup is. Holds moisture well.
