I love just about everything about this watch. Accurate and useful. Bluetooth capable, so you can connect it to your phone for notifications. Im constantly outdoors for work, and it has pristine accuracy in the most austere and remote environments.

This thing will not maintain satellite reception at all. I’ve tried everything. Today was a perfect sunny day and even standing still it’ll say lost satellite reception then take 2-3 minutes to show a grid for about 10 seconds then right back to lost reception. I never had an issue with the 401 decided today to return it but go figure the return window closed yesterday.

This review is coming from the viewpoint of a military user. I had a Foretrex 401 for years and the 601 is definitely an upgrade. Much bigger screen, better resolution, the backlight is much improved and easy to read under NVGs. Battery life is excellent.

Got this for my step son who is in the army. He’s been demoted twice since we gifted this to him. If you have intelligence this will be 5 stars. He’s not that smart.

I use it for sail boat racing, having a large display and buttons that I can use with gloves is very important to me. Ease of use and the accuracy of the compass are also important, everything else is secondary to me, so your mileage may vary. From my experience it is just a 401 refresh, larger screen, three axis compass(big win) but no other improvements. I wish Garmin would have added some of the features like starting line or lifted/headed from the Quantix. But the 601 wins because the Quantix is hard to use and has a tiny screen. The biggest thing I would like is to have is the GPS time to the second on every screen or at least have it on the timer screen and have it to the second in the data field options.

I have used this in the Army for over a year now and I love it. Before this I had a Fortrex 401 and loved it. There was some issues with the 401 that this solves. I will do a comparison of the 401 to to the 601.
