Garmin 010-01772-00 Foretrex 601, 2 inches

Very dependable and accurate device

I used Fortrex 301 for years. While it is not the best for actual mapping and tracking, it was OK for what I exactly used the devise - measuring distance, current speed and average speed, time of the trip and time of the day (while down the river backpacking marking waypoints in most cases is too much). Couple features I didnt liked is relatively short battery life and not much flexibility with regards to screen appearance. All of this is well improved with the 601. After I figured the screen navigation and set up, this equipment is not just convenient, Id say it is enjoyable.

The item was great and they sent it out quickly. Love it.

If my fenix 5x runs out of battery, I wont be without a navigation device with this unit... The positioning system is super fast and navigates extremely accurate. The battery life is definitely the best around...

Active duty Army Infantry, very useful in the field/land nav. NVG mode was more necessary than expected on night movements. Multiple options and abilities with this garmin. Didn’t notice huge difference on performance for 401 though. Recommend screen protector as the screen may scratch easy under use.

I bought this because I spend a lot of time alone out in the Arizona deserts and forests. First time I tried to use this thing I was just outside of Prescott. Clear view of the sky in all directions, but the thing couldnt maintain satellite reception. Now, I dont know if this has anything to do with the ransomware thing that Garmin just got hit with, nor do I care. If I cant count on this thing to keep me from getting lost then what good is it? Sadly Ive had this for more than a month so its too late to get my money back from Amazon. Total ripoff. Avoid Garmin like the plague!
