If you buy this 601 be ready to view the Lost satellite reception prompt- OFTEN. This is specially annoying when traveling waypoints in the woods as you have to wait until signal kicks in. This could be potentially life threatening. This can occur on cloudy AND clear days. You will also note the interface glitches as you navigate. My Foretrex 401 rarely lost signal, and that was off GPS only. The 601 is supposed to run off GPS and GLONASS. An absolute disappointment and will return.

Very good item came in good time and well packaged

Not a lot different than the Foretrex 301 that I have been using. Battery life is a lot longer which is the major plus. Ive used it in the US and Africa without issue. Dont forget to use the Garmin program BaseCamp to help with planning trips and routes. Also you can take your tracks from BaseCamp and overlay it on Google Earth. Being ex-military, I prefer using the MGRS coordinates vs others.

As a combat veteran I use gear to its full potential. This is my second one. The first I lost after a long tunmble down a hill/cliff. I looked several times but could not find it, so I had to buy another. This is the perfect size. Has numerous features. It has never failed me. Battery usage if great. I normally use lithium in it. I used similar in combat. I would recommend this!
