Genuine GORILLA-LIFT 2-Sided Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist

Greater than one weekWhen using the S hooks to find proper location for attaching the cables on tailgate, a lot of the cable coating was worn away; no big deal though. The springs kept pulling the tailgate up out of its location; I installed a stop above the shafts that attach the tailgate to the trailer frame; this corrected this problem. I know that all utility trailers are not the same; you may need to make slight modifications to accomadate your particular trailer. The lift system was fairly easy to install. This Gorilla Lift sure helped my back; I wasnt able to lift the tailgate without help. I can lift the tailgate now with little to no effort.

> 3 dayThese units are Awesome! I had to make a few brackets for my personal install. In short, it’s been a great upgrade. I added a gate extension to my trailer an had to have the assist an this was the answer.

Greater than one weekI LOVE this kit! We installed it in less than an hour. Now dropping and lifting our trailer gate is no longer a 2 person event. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because the ends of the tubes dont come with any protection (caps). Upon purchasing and installing the assist, we realized that the springs and cables inside the rails will be exposed to rain and mud when hauling our Ranger. Back to Amazon to buy a set of end caps (they were only $7 but it would have been nice to have 2 in the kit).

> 3 dayI knew from the installation video I watched prior to purchasing it that the install was not a 5 minute process, but I didnt anticipate the amount of adjustments I would have to make to allow it to release and lift my tailgate properly...oh well, its on and finally working as it should...

> 3 dayI couldnt have asked for better results. Took me about an hour to install by myself, although help (as suggested) on the tail gate would have been thankful. Would of been faster, but two conditions on my trailer required some extra work (see below). Nothing to do with the Gorilla-Lift, just the way my trailer was made. Installation: The rails are about 6 long, (2) 3 pieces with bolts about 1 in from each end. Look at your trailer and make sure you can drill through your top rail and attach a bolt. Also the bolts they sent are long, I assume they send long ones in case you have tube railing. I switched out the (4) interior bolts for shorter bolts. Didnt need to do so I just like the appearance more. The back bolts on my trailer were located directly between the wheels. I had to drill through the top rail and the fender below. The supplied bolts ere long enough to reach through both plates. While the fender is thinner material it is welded to the sides of my trailer so I am not concerned with the capacity. If anything I will just need to add a larger washer at this location. At the end of my trailer they have a vertical channel to support the gate locks and stiffen the sides. Luckily these have an open bottom. I was able to get a 24 extension for the sockets and install the nut on the bolt. !!!Very important step!!! Make sure you attach the cables to the gate to see where the permanent attachment should be before drilling. I had to lower my location about 1 from the suggested location to keep our tailgate flat to the ground. Also make sure you check this in the position you will usually have your trailer in. Not thinking at the time the trailer was on a slight uphill grade when I installed the lift, when turned the other direction the gate stays off the ground about 2 inches. Not an issue for loading an ATV but could be a trip hazard. Plan to attach the spare tire to the gate to make sure it always stays down. How it works: As for lifting, I can now simply put my foot under the gate and raise it with a slight bump. My 2 yr old even closed it by himself, although that may not be a good thing. To lower you do have to pull down some, when before you had to make sure it didnt drop and smash whatever was underneath. I will not own a trailer again that does not have one of these installed on the rear gate.

> 3 daySo this gets 5 stars because of the benefit once it’s right. Truly one finger operation. But there were several functionality issues as designed. One is if you have a fold flat ramp, or need to remove the ramp sometimes, you will lose that because of the way the standoffs stick out and are bolted on. I built A new set of pins and went through two supports on the ramp, and they can be removed in a few seconds if you want fold flat and ramp removability. Which for me, was a must. See pics for easy upgrade. Final product is a life saver, including the upgrade. Btw, that little black bracket with hole is to hang the pin when not attached to the ramp. Just piece of angle attached with the same carriage bolt as the spring housing. Your backs gonna love you!
