Wow! This is the first soldering iron I’ve ever purchased, and I’m beyond pleased with it!! I make custom neon LED signs, & this was a great investment. I’ve only ever used it for the purpose of making neon LED signs (which involves tinning & soldering electrical wires to soldering pads on cut LED segments), but in terms of value, precision, and efficiency it gets an A+ from me! I got this station to replace my antique Weller that finally gave up the ghost. I really like this station, and wish I had upgraded earlier. The iron heats up very quickly, which is awesome, and maintains heat well. The only thing I do not like about it are the controls. Its easy for a first-timer (or second-timer, if they forget!) to screw up the calibration on the unit, when they think they are changing the temperature. Obviously, this is user error, but they could have made it more intuitive (or maybe more difficult to get into the calibration?). Id definitely recommend this station (and have done so many times). Everyone I know that has used one really likes it.

So recently i had a need to upgrade my soldering iron due to a need for an adjustable temp iron that was a lot more precise than my standard radio shack soldering iron. ive been using craftsman and radio shack irons for years now for all of my guitar and amp repairs but lately ive begun building microphone preamps and the circuit boards are more sensitve to excess heat and the capacitors are tiny so i didnt want to use the typicl large tipped cheaper iron i was accustomed to. i always was tired of using the little metal stand and having the regular soldering iron fall over and touch other objects when at rest. i also was a bit tired of the 15 minute warm up that cheaper irons have. i read some reviews on google and here on amazon and opted o buy this iron that came with the multiple tips for the 119.00. when i opened the packed i was a bit surprised that it came with so many of their optional tips. Three of these tips were priced between 8-11.00 a piece and i almost purchased them separatley when i added the same soldering station at 109.00 that included the cutters. i really wanted the little bent fine tip and the tiny bevel tip and both were already in the box! if you consider this whole kit was 120.00 and the extra tips alone are like 50.00 or more dollars, this is an incredible deal. I didnt need the cutters anyway that the other package deal had. the soldering station itself is nice and rugged and extremely well made it seems. It took less than 1 minute to set it up and after turning it on, it hit the preset 750 degrees in less than 20 seconds or so! WOW!..thats a big difference over the extensive warming up period of my cheaper iron. The soldering iron itself fits nicl into the holder and within seconds I had the cleaning brush and sponge in place and was testing it out. I was even surprised o find hat the little sponge hat sits in the bottom of the station for cleaning the tip was pre moistened! I made a few quick solders and immediately regretted not purchasing this way sooner. Especially considering I have spent nearly 100.00 already on multiple cheaper irons and supplies. You can set temparature presets that can be recalled if needed but honestly i really didnt care much about those features. i was simply looking for a stabile temperature reading during the soldering, a super fast warm up and cool down and a good amoun of optional tips. It was better than expected in all of these catagories. I have not spent a lo of time working with the station yet but definitely long enough to know that it it exactly what I was hoping for. Do not think twice about the 120.00 dollars for this station. You will not regret it!

The soldering station is everything I was hoping for. It is a five-star product. I deduct one star for the included accessories. Rather than provide an extra oversized cleaning wire (Hakko 599-029 - wrong part number for the Hakko FH-800 iron holder) that incidentally wont fit into the Hakko FH-800 iron holder (the Hakko 599-029 cleaning wire or tip cleaner refill is designed for use with the Hakko 599B Tip Cleaner which is not included with this soldering station package), it would have been more useful to provide an extra cleaning sponge (Hakko A1559 Cleaning Sponge for the FH-800 Iron holder) and/or the optional Rubber cleaner (Hakko B3474 Rubber Cleaner for FH-800) for the same price. The cleaning sponges dont last very long as compared to the cleaning wire which I dont think Ill have to replace in my lifetime. The correct replacement or extra cleaning wire for this Hakko FX888D Soldering Station is the Hakko A1561 Replacement Cleaning Wire for FH-800. Therefore, I dont need an extra cleaning wire much less one that wont fit the iron holder. The optional Rubber cleaner that fits on the lip the cleaning wire port on the FH-800 iron holder would have been a nice add-on. It would certainly have made this Hakko FX888D Soldering Station package more useful. I highly recommend the Hakko products, but not this particular combo deal. I suggest shopping for a Hakko FX888D Soldering Station package that doesnt include useless items such as the wrong sized extra cleaning wire.

Before I bought this, I used multiple cheap soldiering irons without a station or temp regulator. I always had issues with getting big lumps of solder to liquefy, and overheating small components while trying to heat the soldier. And so far I havent gotten any problems with this soldering station. Multiple tips, and adjustable temperature allows me to work with both small and big soldier joints. It also heats up quite fast, which is nice. Although $120 its bit pricey, it seems like its a quality tool and I hope it will last me decades.

All my life Ive used the cheaper Weller irons--I burned a PCB while trying to solder some very small and delicate parts. This led me to purchase this highly upgraded soldering iron which made soldering the small parts a wonderful experience. It heats up quick, maintains its temperature, and has every adapter tip you can think of.
