> 3 dayI had no idea what a good station to do. I should not have waited and if youre in the market for a good soldering iron this station is well worth the money to have something you can depend on. No its not the ruggedest one out there or built like a tank like the old ones were. However this does do its job exceedingly well and simplify your work that needs to be done. Coming from any old Rat Shack iron to this was an eye opener. Having the luxury of switching tips for specific jobs helps immensely and is far easier than I was expecting.

> 3 dayIm doing a lot of small electronics now and needed a quality set up. While the UI is a bit wonky an older used unit wasnt going to save me any money by the time I added the tips etc included with this kit.

> 3 dayAfter a few years of using a cheap hakko 936 knockoff I decided to get the real thing and Im so glad I did. Ive used it for smd components as well as desoldering components from old boards and it performed flawlessly. The iron heats from room temp to 750 degrees f in 30 seconds and maintains temp perfectly. I read alot of reviews saying the temp control setting is not intuitive and difficult but after reading the instructions and using it I find it very user friendly and easy to navigate. I highly recommend this soldering station to anyone who is looking to upgrade from a cheap knockoff or wanting to start off with a quality tool that gets the job done fast and efficiently.

> 3 dayThis is on of those tools that I wonder why I didnt buy one sooner. I solder fairly regularly, and have been using a bunch of cheap pencil irons for years. They mostly got the job done, but just lacked any kind of finesse for doing more delicate work and the tips on them never lasted. This Hakko has made soldering so much easier it isnt funny, if Im soldering wires together, I turn up the heat a bit. For smaller stuff, I turn it down just to where I need it. It is nice not having to worry (as much) about overheating a component because you know youre using just the right amount of heat instead of whatever the iron puts out. Perhaps the biggest advantage of a station like this is that it maintains that temperature as you solder, which is huge when youre soldering a component or trace that tends to sink a lot of heat. My only minor gripe is the way you have to adjust the temperature. It isnt as apocolptically difficult as some other reviews would have you to believe but i cant imagine that including an extra button or just using a knob would have been any more expensive to build. For my hobby work it isnt a big deal, but I can see where it may be a slight impediment to someone using it in a production environment that needs to adjust the temperature more frequently.

> 3 dayAll this unit does is heats up to 500 with no way to adjust it. You cannot use it on anything temperature critical.
