My installation was a little different than the normal hookup since I wanted to do four things: 1) tow a small trailer w/o brakes, 2) be able to tow a trailer with brakes using a brake controller, 3) provide power to operate a macerater pump for transferring black water, and 4) provide power to operate a power lift to help load and unload the back of the minivan. Therefore, I needed a little heavier wire to the back of the minivan, but otherwise the hookup was the same. The only thing I did differently than suggested in the package was to mount the plugs on the bumper rather than on the hitch - that was a mistake, since the angle bracket has taken some damage that it would not have experienced had it been attached to the hitch. My requirements 1) and 2) were very well taken care of by the adapter package. I run a separate black wire for ground rather than use the frame of the vehicle and, like I said, due to my load requirements, I needed heavier wire. I used the black wire from the adapter as my blue wire for the electric brake support. Unfortunately, my macerater pump uses the center wire (the one marked backup lights - purple) as an auxiliary power. If I get time, I will switch that to use the black wire (aux) which seems to be more suitable, but for now that is is how it is. The heaviest user of power is the power lift. It uses 30 amps of 12 vdc, so the wires (red for positive and black for negative battery were run to it first and then Td to the other operations (one for the power brakes (2) and one for the macerater (3). Since the lift does not operate during travel and would not be in use while the macerater is running, the power is shared among them as well as the lights for the trailers (both 1) and 2) ). I had installed the standard 4-wire small trailer package which is a prerequisite for this products installation. It all works like a charm.

Perfect fit, works good. But 7 blade cap is flimsy plastic. Doesnt seem like it will last. Also the gauge wire for the battery lead a is the same as the lighting, not as heavy as the electric brake wire. I run a heavy gauge battery wire to the trailer so I can charge not only the break-away battery, but also an on board ( camping, hydraulics or accessory) full size battery. But good price and easy install

I had an old 7 pin connector ao I decided it was time to upgrade and this was great. It comes with butt connectors for auxiliary power and trailer brakes I cut those off and directly soldered them because I plan on keeping it on for years. I also bought a connector that goes in the middle of the brake/turn lights and has the 4 pin so that was really great

Bought a trailer with brakes about a year ago, but only had the 4pin trailer plug (no tow package) on my F150. Bought this piece, got it in 2 days with Amazon Prime, and installed it the same day I got it. Install took about 30 minutes (you could do it faster if youre familiar with the wiring), but overall pretty easy. 4pin plugs into the new 4pin (plug and play), splice blue wire for the actual brake controller, splice black for power, and white for ground (to metal of vehicle) -all not difficult (youtubed this video for help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWq9Fwj1D-8). Now I have braking power on my trailer (also got Curt 51110 Venturer Brake Controller and adapter for simple installation: 5min), all for almost $80 and about 45min of install time. Took trailer for a short trip and everything works great, next is 1600miles, so Ill update if something craps out. Otherwise, consider everything great.

Mounting this to my 2016 Chevy Express van was a piece of cake. Didnt need instructions. Mounted to bottom of bumper left of the hitch. Looks and functions as factory installed. Nice and secure, clean, now maintenance free. Coupled with the Curt 55540 and the and Curt 14090, I have a total of 180 bucks and less than 45 minutes work into this with all 3 items. Was quoted $850-$1,000 from installers/dealers. Ridiculous. Did this myself for over 80% less!

Overall, this was a great purchase. 4 to 4/7 was exactly what I needed to upgrade my vehicle. I didnt use the mounting hardware but instead drilled out the bumper to have a more polished finish. It worked great.

First of all, THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS A MOUNTING BRACKET! For the first time ever, I didnt read reviews here before purchasing and bought a separate mounting bracket which Amazon lists as frequently purchased together. On the flip side though, I doubled up the brackets to make them a bit more sturdy. The bracket will bend backwards from the force of pushing the 7 pin plug in otherwise. The adapter itself is made of a thick plastic so corrosion shouldnt be an issue. Both covers work well and should keep out the elements though dielectric grease should be used as well. The wires are heavy (enough) gauge and have good jackets to them and the included crimp connectors are a nice bonus, though I always recommend soldering them. My only complaint is the cheap screws that come with it. Everything needed to mount it is included but its very soft steel and strips with little effort. Do yourself a favor and pick up some nice stainless screws at least for where it mounts to the vehicle.

This product will do what is says it will do. That being said, it does not inspire confidence in heavy use situations. It does not appear very rugged. Nice that it comes with the mount, but again the mount is very thin and light and probably wont last very long. Also, the wire coloring does not match with the standard US codes. White is ground on the item, while in most cases in the US, black is the ground wire. Where was this thing made? Again, it is a good price, and a useful product, but just beware it might be very rugged or reliable. Make sure to read the enclosed documentation so that you match your wiring correctly.

Its all good, but I do have to hold onto the back of this plug when plugging in a trailer, or Ill bend the bracket back. The plug itself seems to work fine.
