KOHLER 8799-PB Duostrainer Sink drain and strainer basket, less tailpiece, 1.5, Vibrant Polished Brass

What I love the most is how easy it is to position the strainer to either closed or drain. The cheap ones at the box stores never seat properly.

The strainer itself looks good. The Basket/Stopper does not seal and water leaks from sink. Seems like a very poor design on the stopper. There is nothing to guide the stopper squarely into the seating area and water leaks past the o-ring. Hole in basket has too much clearance and the stopper is not guided squarely into the seat. Very disappointed in this item. I have returned this item and Amazon gave me a full refund.

Great sink strainer, excellent quality. Works as good as it looks.

Im so happy that this version is USA made. The one that Home Depot and Lowes sell is the China version. And you can tell the quality difference. PLEASE KOHLER YOU ARE A USA COMPANY KEEP YOUR MANUFACTURING IN THE US!!!

It was just what I needed and nice quality

One star is one-too-many. These are expensive and the strainer basket is a ridiculously poor design. The stopper decides on its own whether its going to hold water or let it drain. Ill fill a sink with hot soapy water and find it empty minutes later before Ive had a chance to do the dishes. Ive also left the hot water running to get hot enough to use, turned my back and found it completely sealed (on its own) and the sink close to overflowing. On top of that, the first one I had disassembled itself regularly. I ended up using JB Weld to fix it temporarily but bought a new one locally for about $20. It, too, is completely and maddeningly frustrating to use. Ive never thought twice about sink stoppers, but this plumber-recommended unit is on its way out. Im on this page simply to research a replacement.

The quality of the strainer body is good. The basket strainer has a couple of minor problems. As some others have mentioned the strainer basket only has an O ring for a seal. I made a You Tube video showing how to install the strainer. The instructions on the package are no help. Amazon wont allow a link to the video. Search in You Tube for: Install a Kohler Duostrainer Kitchen Sink Strainer, by Know How Now Years ago, I installed the knock off version K of this strainer sold at the other big box store. The strainer basket is almost identical. Youll need to buy a supply of 50 cent replacement O rings. The strainer plugged the drain just fine, some mentioned that their strainer baskets would not seal. Perhaps a factory quality problem that has been corrected by Kohler. The K knock off basket, just like this one, has a sleeve pressed into the strainer that holds the plunger. After a few years the knock offs sleeve wore the hole in the strainer basket larger & the sleeve disconnected from the strainer. I glued it with JB Weld. Time will tell if the same thing happens to Kohlers basket. They only give a 1 year warranty. It gets four stars due to the weak strainer basket design.

Heavy cast brass, one of the few made in America plumbing foundry & pottery ware. They tend to be high end, but I let the customer make the call.

When we bought a Kohler sink we did at first not realize we had to buy a sink strainer too. Fortunately we figured it out fast and did get this so the installation of the sink went well. This seems to me to be a very sturdy unit and it looks great in a stainless steel Kohler sink. I dont really fill the sink with water on a regular basis but when I tested this in the closed position it did hold water. Im happy with this and the plumber did not have any issues installing it with the new sink. ~The Rebecca Review
