Bought this because it claimed to work with XP Pro. IT DOES NOT. Install disk loaded a mass of useless eye-candy software, but no driver or burner-manager for XP Pro. Some of this junk software autoloads on bootup AND REFUSES TO DELETE, which means hours and hours of backing-up, wiping and reloading my hard drive. Id rather have a virus! Those I can get rid of with McAfee, Spybot, or Malwarebytes. Seller was zero help. Mfgr. site does not support this model at all. (But it tries like crazy to sell you another one!) Final indignity is that the ( USB ) power demand is so great that it overloads the power-supply in my Dell laptop, causing it to shut down completely at random moments. I have wasted a whole day trying to sort this thing out, and will lose another whole day rebuilding my hard drive. Am returning it for refund, but where to I go to get my wasted time back ????

This is a decent DVD/RW for the price. It works tested under Mac OS Catalina which is great. Its flimsy. You need to be really careful when opening the drawer, loading the disc, closing the door, etc. There is a center spindle you need to load discs on and its also flimsy. In summary, everything works on this external drive, but you have to be extra careful when you touch it because its very fragile.

This is a great little CD/DVD external player with USB cord to plug into my Mac. My driver doesnt work on my Mac so I cant play or import music on CDs, or watch DVDs. I bought this and plug the cord into the computer and voila! I can now play CDs and watch DVDs on my computer using this little external device. Why do I only give it 4 stars though? Because Im on my 3rd external drive as the other ones eventually stop working or wear down for some reason. It seems to last less than a year, then I start having issues with this. While this runs closer to $30, it shouldnt be more than $20. It does the trick, but doesnt last long enough.

I recently purchased this item to go along with a brand new HP Spectre x360, both of which are primarily for my wife to use. The Spectre x360 ships with Windows 8.1, which we did not want, so the plan was to take the free upgrade to Win10 immediately, right out of the box. The only drawback being that most ultrabooks (the x360 included) dont come with Optical drives anymore. Thats where a device like this comes in. But a lot of USB CD/DVD drives (this one included) dont *yet* claim to support Windows 10. The last time I checked LGs website (which was the same day I purchased this item on Amazon), the listing stated support for a number of OSs, including Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, but it DID NOT list or mention Windows 10 in any way. I purchased this device because its size/form factor was appealing (its very small/compact, and I like the simple black appearance), the price was right, and it does everything my wife needs (to be able to install software thats on DVD discs, and be able to RIP/burn audio music and recordings for her work), without any *extra* features that my wife doesnt have a use for (namely Blu Ray read/write). The only concern here was Windows 10 support. We didnt want a Windows 8.1 machine, and my wife needs a device like this in order for her new ultrabook to be everything that she wanted/needed it to be. I am pleased to say that this device DOES work with Windows 10, all-be-it- not elegantly (to-date). Hopefully LG provides a firmware update, in the near future, to make this a more *plug-and-play* solution. But for now, although the disc does not start up automatically when inserted, nor does the computer pop up with any sort of message indicating that its identified an inserted disc or connected device, if I navigate through Windows Explorer, the ultrabook does see the device. Double-clicking on the drive DOES open the disc, where all files can be viewed. And by clicking on the proper installation/executable file, the drive WILL read the disc, and the software that my wife needs successfully installs on her new Windows 10 PC. We havent tried to RIP or burn any music yet, but I dont anticipate that to be a problem either. Its not elegant (yet). Hopefully LG improves upon it in the near future. But I just wanted to provide a user review stating that, at least for my wifes use case, this drive DID work for her/us on Windows 10. It hasnt failed once yet to do what she needed it to do. FYI. And, as expected, the size/features/price point was *right* for us. Its a nice purchase. Ill try to remember to return to this review later, if/when something changes, and update my 4* either upward (if a firmware update comes making this a quicker more plug-and-play device) or downward to 3* (if/when this device fails for the first time to perform an action that it should be able to do).

I bought this DVD writer to play DVDs on my new laptop. The reasoning for buying this LG writer was for something easy to set-up and easy to use. This product did accomplish the easy set-up: only a USB cord is needed to hook the writer into the laptop, and there is only one button on the player. I could not actually get the writer to play a DVD on my computer. Lack of a quality media player on my laptop may be the case, though it would be helpful if the writer had troubleshooting tips about that problem. When I first received the product, I proceeded to read the directions and started up the program with the CD rom attached. The program is intended for the other purposes of the writer such as copying, it does not actually assist with playing DVDs. I tried several different movies but nothing would just begin automatically playing via the writer. Some other reviewers for this product seemed to have a similar experience with the DVDs not playing. A solution to this problem could be the company including a program on the set-up CD to actually play DVDs on laptops. • Product is not user friendly: This is not a product that is easy to understand the purpose or how it properly works. Trouble-shooting in the directions would be helpful for when it does not automatically play a DVD as I was expecting it would (easily) accomplish. • Pro: Slim small product, easy to hook-up. • Con: Have not gotten the product to play a DVD on my laptop yet.

Recently I decided to go with a case for my desktop that took up less space. There are several reasons for that, but I wont bore you with the details of that endeavor, just suffice it to say I chose a case that had no bays for an internal DVD multi drive. Even though I mostly use digital media and streaming services I thought there might be a time I might need one, so why not get an external that I could use with the desktop and my laptop if the need arose. I went with this one because it had a nice sleek look, and was inexpensive as well as having a good feature set. Externals do not burn as fast as internals, but I knew that going in, it does however seem to burn perfectly. It is super lightweight, nice and slim and again didnt break my wallet. I have to say I very satisfied with the build quality and functionality as it does what LG claims and fits my needs perfectly.

I began hunting around for a decent-quality USB CD Drive after opting for a desktop case that did not include a standard CD Drive slot. I came across this model, and opted to purchase due to positive reviews. The drive does not disappoint. I do not use it very often since it is rare I have a need for CDs, but it does everything it was designed to do. I have played movies, burned bootable ISO disks, etc. You name it - this drive does it. Solid overall construction. It comes with a USB cable that plugs into the back of the unit. The only quality some may see as a negative is the sound. It is not exactly a quiet unit. But as a buyer, I recommend you look last this piece in favor of the great build quality. It is a CD drive - it is supposed to make noise. Noise aside - 5 stars, would buy again.

The cable provided had an unknown version of a USB terminal. It did not fit into any USB slot on my computer, and we finally decided it was a faulty-made cable intended as a motherboard power connection, but we never found a picture of one like it. Fortunately, I had a spare USB/mini-B cable in my vast collection, and it worked. Well, it didnt work until we figured out how to download DVD player software, which apparently computers dont come with anymore. Our Windows 11 Pro media player doesnt play DVDs. In all, we spent hours trying to get this $25 item to play a DVD, and finally it did. The next hurdle will be finding software to write DVDs and to write the M-discs. Seems like nothing is easy anymore.

It gets the job done which is all you can really ask for. I purchased this product because my new laptop doesnt have a CD/DVD drive and I needed one because I frequently download CDs into iTunes. In this regard I cant comment on this products writing abilities because I havent tried it out yet. The product came packaged nicely and came with a software disk that you have to download in order to use the product. I put in the disk and tried to download the software, but no matter how many times it said it was successful I couldnt get the software to work. Plus it makes you download programs like label making when you try to download the main program that allows the computer to recognize the drive. Instead I downloaded the VLC media player from the internet and has worked fine since then. It plays movies through that program so its convenient (not as convenient as one would hope though). The drive is also extremely loud when it is reading a disk so if you are hoping to watch a movie while everyone else is sleeping, well the disk drive will wake them up with the noises it makes. Obviously the noise isnt a huge deal when burning disks because it only lasts for a few minutes, but it is annoying when you watch a movie and it makes loud noises throughout most of the movie. Im sure there are plenty of better external disk drives, but for the money this one is fine. There was a cheaper one I was looking at that I wouldnt mind having after seeing that this one isnt too fantastic.

Needed a CD reader to finish off ripping my CD collection. This disc reader/writer was cheap, Mac compatible and did the job. The only drawback is that it has a lot of vibration. Though it didnt impact the functionality.
