Greater than one weekI needed a cd drive for tax software this year. Purchased this. Didnt need the CD it came with, updated and installed on my windows tablet incredibly fast and worked instantly. Worked on my older mac desktop as well. Not a problem. Then this morning, when installing Business tax software, I dropped the drive off the edge of my desk, and it was caught by the cord, however the CD holder and the rails came flying out. bummer. Completely my fault, it feels very thin and cheaply made so I assumed it was gone. But after putting the rails on the CD holder and shoving it back in, I heard cracking and clicking, and low and behold, it still works! Ill probably never use this again, but it works in case I need it! Thanks LG!

> 3 dayThe item came in without any damage. It has a USB so it does require type adaptor if your laptop only has a type C. It wasnt working the first time when I put a DVD in because it kept asking me to change the region but it wont let me no matter what regions I changed to. I tried again the second time, and it worked. Sometimes it recognized the DVD right away, sometimes it takes a while before it plays. Also, sometimes it just keeps loading without anything playing. Therefore, in the third case, I will have to open the VLC player and open the file/DVD from there, and it worked at the end. It is not the best one but not the worst one because Ive tried one not that not even doing anything. I already expected the loud noise so I wont go crazy about it. I hope it can last for a while

Greater than one weekI originally planned on getting a Dell, but after reading terrible reviews, I chose this one. Glad I did! Comes with a disc that contains 3 types of editing programs you can install on your computer (photos, videos, etc.). Havent tried those out yet but appreciated that it was included. This does its job well, and thats all I could really ask for.

Greater than one weekIve been very happy with this external DVD player. I bought it since the new macbook pros dont come with disk drives, and this has worked really well as a substitute. I primarily use it for watching DVDs and burning music CDs and it works great for both. I took off a star just because when the tray opens for you to put in a disk or take it out, the tray does not come out far enough for the entire disk to be outside of the player. So you have to tilt the disk as you put it in and then snap it into place, while trying not to scratch the disk at all. Its not that hard to do, but it seems like its an issue that couldve been avoided pretty easily.

> 3 dayThe device works great. But, was worried it would be broken (DOA) due to the packaging being torn and apparently crushed. Very satisfied with product, appalled by apparent treatment of the package.

> 3 dayI thought this might require a powered USB hub, but so far, it was recognized right away and hasnt caused any power problems. Well see if that changes when I actually burn something. So far I have only been reading, but the drive seems to work fine. I use the Pi as my main desktop and had been missing having a CD/DVD drive. I did put the max_usb_current=1 entry in the config.txt file. LG doesnt officially support Raspbian or Linux of any distro, but eventually theyll figure out that there are millions of Pi users and many, many millions of Android users and pull their head out of the sand and quit bowing to Redmond.

> 3 dayI was very confused by the post made by Blue. It said I would need to install the software. This comment set me on a wild-goose chase looking for a CD to install the software, which was not included. The LG webpage was very complicated and gave me no decent info. I ended up reading a comment somewhere else that it only works on LG computers (which I didnt know existed). Finally, after six months of giving up on trying to use it, I simply decided it must be plug-n-play. It worked perfectly after I downloaded and installed the VLC media software (free) that is needed if the pc does not have a DVD player of its own. Please make it clear what you mean by installing the software to people like me who have no clue! What a waste of time! I nearly threw it out because I thought it would never work with my HP computer! Bottom line - The DVD reader drive is plug-n-play! Just download VLC software for free (which is not the same as software to install the device) and youre good to go! Now that its installed, its beautiful!

> 3 dayIt came quickly and a day earlier than predicted. It does feel cheap, and I couldnt believe it was that cheap till I realized there was plastic over it lol. Very lightweight but not very heavy duty. The cord is very thick, sturdy, and perfect in length though. I downloaded the stuff that it said to on the disc. I bought this mainly for playing my DVDs on my new laptop that does not have a disc drive. I plugged it in and it opened up the program it downloaded but as I kept hitting play it would not. But of course the other buttons/options worked just fine. I tried out several DVDs and this continued. So I downloaded VLC Media Player and then re-inserted the DVD, clicked it when the computer recognized the device and had it open/play the DVD with VLC and it worked. Windows media player did not work with this nor did trying to change the settings to have DVDs automatically play on media player. So if you experience this go ahead and find a program that will play DVDs but if you are more concerned with burning discs and such the program that comes with this is perfect for you and will do the job. IF YOUR COMPUTER DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE DEVICE: -Faulty cord/product -Check under your devices on the computer settings/panel. -Try putting in a disc with the USB still plugged in. -Mainly check your settings!!

Greater than one weekI needed an external drive to go with our new MacBook Pro and wanted to stay with the brushed aluminum look. While it doesnt quite match the same look as the MacBook its pretty close and for the amount Im really going to use it close is ok with me. The outercase is all plastic which makes it really lightweight. It worked immediately when I plugged it in and didnt have to load any software or anything like that. A true plug and play device with the MacBook. My only nit with it so far is that it does get noisy when the disc is spinning at full speed. Because it is all plastic there isnt much weight to it so it vibrates. Ive ended up just resting my hand or finger on it just to put a little weight on it to stop the brief vibrating. Overall though, Im satisfied for now especially for a fraction of the price of the Superdrive.
