Plug-and-Play on my Macs–I was watching a DVD within fifteen seconds of opening the box. Its quiet–the only time I hear it is when it first gets power or you load or stop a DVD, and that lasts for just a couple of seconds. It is perfectly quiet during Play. Ive had no problems with its response to any control functions I issue either by using my mouse or my remote control. So far Ive used it about a couple of dozen DVDs. Ill edit this post if I encounter problems in the future. I cant speak for the software disk that comes with it since you dont need that stuff for Macs.

A solid LG drive that will work with most any system. Instantly detected under Win 10 with no drivers required. My only complaint is the USB cable. Its too short. Just an extra 6 would give the unit much more mobility. Outside of that, this is a no brainer purchase if you need a portable DVD burner.

I am the type of shopper that usually buys a cheap knockoff brand for items like this, as long as it has decent reviews. I started by buying a $17 (or so) knockoff brand and it didnt even work. The knock-off brand even came with a user guide to fix common issues that happen with it, which tells me they hardly ever work correctly. Mine didnt work at all. I gave in and bought this LG brand and it is so worth it. Wish I had bought this the 1st time around. It works great. I even dropped it twice by accident and it is still working thankfully.

Ive been very happy with this external DVD player. I bought it since the new macbook pros dont come with disk drives, and this has worked really well as a substitute. I primarily use it for watching DVDs and burning music CDs and it works great for both. I took off a star just because when the tray opens for you to put in a disk or take it out, the tray does not come out far enough for the entire disk to be outside of the player. So you have to tilt the disk as you put it in and then snap it into place, while trying not to scratch the disk at all. Its not that hard to do, but it seems like its an issue that couldve been avoided pretty easily.

I have used various DVDs, and this one is great: Slim, fast and at mere $25 with free ship from Adorama (the seller): I have nothing to complain. Came in completely sealed, new condition, DVD itself has a thin, transparent protective film all around, with all manuals, 1 x USB cable and an installation DVD (which I did not have to use as my computer automatically did it. Thus, in my case, this was a plug-n-go situation.) I use this for my home office / personal use. I often burn CDs and DVDs, 30 to 100 at a time, containing documents to presentations to photos to videos. This is good enough for my use. Besides, the sleek and slim look is nice to look at on my work desk. The seller, Adorama did great job in shipping free and fast, delivering in 5 days from NJ to CA. Once I received, I can request invoice/warranty via email so that warranty would start when I get the item. Im very satisfied with the product and the seller.

Works wonderfully for reading and writing CDs and DVDs. I mostly use it for watching DVDs and occasionally for reading or writing CDs, since my laptop doesnt have a built-in drive. Note that if youre running Windows 8 or 8.1, youll have to install some sort of DVD-playing program to watch DVDs on your computer (since Windows Media Player no longer plays DVDs for free in the newest version). I installed VLC media player for free and the drive now works perfectly for watching DVDs on my Dell. However, note that you will likely want to buy a case for this drive, unless you dont plan to take it outside of your home. I tried at first just to haul it around in the box it came in, but that proved bulky and impractical after a while, so I bought a case for traveling and the like.

Works great. I am using this with a MacBook Air. Plug and play. The package came with an installation CD-ROM, but it is not needed to use the DVD reader/writer. The reader/writer can also be plugged into a television and used as a portable storage device (IE: The TV recognizes it as a USB drive so you can play videos, music or view photos that are on a CD-ROM. The files must be readable by the TV, however. You cannot play a DVD movie in this reader through your TV). Shipping was a day late from the Prime 2-day delivery, but it came in a protected padded envelope.

It gets the job done which is all you can really ask for. I purchased this product because my new laptop doesnt have a CD/DVD drive and I needed one because I frequently download CDs into iTunes. In this regard I cant comment on this products writing abilities because I havent tried it out yet. The product came packaged nicely and came with a software disk that you have to download in order to use the product. I put in the disk and tried to download the software, but no matter how many times it said it was successful I couldnt get the software to work. Plus it makes you download programs like label making when you try to download the main program that allows the computer to recognize the drive. Instead I downloaded the VLC media player from the internet and has worked fine since then. It plays movies through that program so its convenient (not as convenient as one would hope though). The drive is also extremely loud when it is reading a disk so if you are hoping to watch a movie while everyone else is sleeping, well the disk drive will wake them up with the noises it makes. Obviously the noise isnt a huge deal when burning disks because it only lasts for a few minutes, but it is annoying when you watch a movie and it makes loud noises throughout most of the movie. Im sure there are plenty of better external disk drives, but for the money this one is fine. There was a cheaper one I was looking at that I wouldnt mind having after seeing that this one isnt too fantastic.

This will, in fact, work on a Mac: Some reviews and answers suggest this is not Mac-compatible; however, heres the skinny: This unit is plug and play, meaning no setup is required. (Note: The software CD that comes with it is NOT necessary for use; its just a free media suite.) The problem lies in the fact that, when a BLANK disc is inserted, the drive doesnt appear in Finder, which is no doubt confusing. (A disc with content will appear normally.) One method to confirm it is recognized is to go to About This Mac > Storage. To burn a file to a blank disc: Control-click your file and select Burn your_file to Disc — a popup box should give you the option to select the external drive. NOTE: Samsung no longer supports external optical drives. No tech support, no warranty claims via manufacturer.

I purchased 4 of these, primarily to backup DVD to hard drive. I connect all 4 drives to a single PC and use them all simultaneously. I had real concerns about whether or not this would work, for a number of reasons. So far Ive worked through a few hundred DVD and had ZERO failures. All discs have been read successfully and theyre plenty fast. Im sure they would work well under any OS like Mac or Windows, I happen to be using Linux. The software I use to backup DVD is the command line program dd.
