After many drives, this is the best, I had issues with the other ones including Apple drive.

I got the LG DVD reader because I needed to reinstall Windows on a notebook that does not have a DVD burner. It worked really great. It comes with a CD with drivers, but for me it was just plug and play, which is great. I understand that for some people it might not be plug and play, it all depends on the software your computer already carries. It comes with a manual which is good too for those who do not know much about these devices. I put my CD in and it started reading it immediately just as if it were a desktop or a built in DVD drive. The material seems very sturdily built and its small enough to carry around. If you use DVDs and CDs a lot with your laptop carrying this thing around would definitely become annoying, I dont use much CDs so it is fine for me and I had no choice since the notebook I had does not have CD player built in. Over all Im very happy with my purchase.

Works great. I am using this with a MacBook Air. Plug and play. The package came with an installation CD-ROM, but it is not needed to use the DVD reader/writer. The reader/writer can also be plugged into a television and used as a portable storage device (IE: The TV recognizes it as a USB drive so you can play videos, music or view photos that are on a CD-ROM. The files must be readable by the TV, however. You cannot play a DVD movie in this reader through your TV). Shipping was a day late from the Prime 2-day delivery, but it came in a protected padded envelope.

Works like it is supposed to. The DVD R/W in my Dell desktop was often failing and wasting disc blanks while trying to burn. This unit saved the day. Easy simple install - plug & play on a Windows 10 machine. Been very reliable, so far. My only glitch is since it is an external device that just sits on the surface, it slides a little too easy requiring you to possibly need to hold with both hands when loading or removing a disc. Very satisfied.

LG Electronics USB Ultra Slim Portable DVD Rewriter, External Drive with M-DISC Support If you find yourself with a Macbook Air and a sudden need for a CD drive, look no further. I purchased one, thinking I wouldn’t miss the CD drive. As it turns out, I almost immediately found out one of my classes required the use of a program that came with the textbook for the class. Looking for a solution, I turned to Amazon. Enter the LG Electronics External Ultra Slim Portable DVD Rewriter! It fits into the USB drive on any device (the Air has plenty of those), and takes very little setup. I was able to use the device without any trouble to play any disc, and it worked great. The drive does have some potential downsides. While some reviews say it’s very quiet, you may notice it makes a whirring noise when in use. The noise is minor, and may only be distracting when it’s being used to play a movie. If you should find it annoying, a simple solution would be to set something on the player, which eliminates the noise completely. If you’re worried about the physical space taken up by the drive, it can be somewhat inconvenient. But for what it is, the space is minimal, especially compared to similar products. The USB cord isn’t very long at just over a foot, but judging from other reviews, this is also better than other products. Plus, given how slim the device is (only half an inch tall), this all allows for easy storage. I haven’t found a need for an especially long cord, so it hasn’t really posed a problem. Aside from the mild potential drawbacks the external drive has, it performs excellently and I’ve never had a problem with it. It also has a very low cost, which once again is better than many of the alternatives. I would highly recommend it. By the way, I ended up with two of these, so I sent one to my parents, who also had a computer without a CD drive. They haven’t had any problems with it, and say it works great.

This is a pretty good drive for the price. My Macbook pro reads it immediately after I plug it in. Ive used it to burn CDs and play games and so far I havent had any problems with them loading. Its also a plus that I didnt have to download any software for it to work. Its very lightweight and thin which I really like as its very portable, although I do think it can get a little noisy at times. The eject button occasionally doesnt work, but its not such a big deal as I just eject the content through my laptop. And speaking of the eject button, its thin and sometimes hard to press. Its a good and reliable alternative to the more pricey hard drives out in the market. It has its flaws, but it cant be beat for the price.

Plug-and-Play on my Macs–I was watching a DVD within fifteen seconds of opening the box. Its quiet–the only time I hear it is when it first gets power or you load or stop a DVD, and that lasts for just a couple of seconds. It is perfectly quiet during Play. Ive had no problems with its response to any control functions I issue either by using my mouse or my remote control. So far Ive used it about a couple of dozen DVDs. Ill edit this post if I encounter problems in the future. I cant speak for the software disk that comes with it since you dont need that stuff for Macs.

Installed to a freshly built Windows 10 PC. Built in drivers found the drive without issue. I have not installed any of the software from the enclosed disc. I inserted a DVD and it opened right up in VLC Media Player. I tried a music CD and the device ejected it. Same result with a CD with photos burned to it. Everything I have read says it should play music CDs without issue. LG has no updated firmware for this device on its site. I again tried a DVD and now it ejected that as well. For some reason it was just not recognizing any type of disc as playable. I was ready to send it back to Amazon when I decided to give it another shot. I always change DVD drive letters to Z: on my machines so this may have messed something up in the system. Never had an issue before. Here are the steps I took to get it working: 1) Unplugged the USB cable from the computers port. 2) Opened Windows Device Manager. From the search bar run mmc devmgmt.msc (without the quotes) to open. 3) On the Tool Bar select View> Show Hidden Devices 4) Under DVD/CD-ROM drives select the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GP60NB50 USB Device and delete it. 5) Once uninstalled plug the drive cable back into the computer port and let Windows find it again. The device now plays CDs and DVDs just fine and it remembered the the DVD was the Z: drive.

Review Change! Customer service responded in less than 12 hours. I had to load (for free) the VLC app. (www.videolan.org) This app triggers my DVD player to start playing the DVDs. HUGE RELIEF!!! I am not sure why I had to download this app, but I am glad that it works!!! It is an extra step, so its not plug-and-play, but rather open app, insert disc, then play. :) Here is my previous review: I purchased this to play DVDs on my MacBook Air at home. It does not work! First it tried to make me change my zone but wouldnt actually let me change anything. It just pops up the player screen and says, Not Permitted for every disc that I try. I can see the player on my dock and I can see the disc on my desktop, but it just makes a noise like it is going to play and then gives the error message. I looked at a bunch of these before choosing this one. My school has an older version of this LG device that is truly plug-and-play for my MacBook, so I thought a newer one would work for sure! I am very disappointed and I wish I hadnt wasted my money. Unfortunately, I already labeled it with my name, so I cannot return it.

I cant believe that some people cant get this to work. You have to plug it in, let it download its recognition software first, and then you can put your included Super Multi Drive Install disc in, and download the needed software to run the program. I absolutely love it, and find that it works exceptionally. I bought it for my HP Stream 13 laptop with Windows 8.1, so that I can transfer my vinyl records through Audacity and make digital files for archiving. The cds that it burns have come out absolutely phenomenal. They sound better than any cds Ive ever burned before with other HP computers, with awesome quality that rivals or even out does store bought cds. Ive been very impressed for something this cheap. Completely surpassed my expectations. It plays cds and dvds perfectly! I havent tried burning any dvds yet, but Im certain in its capability to do so. Im hoping it lasts me a long time. The build quality looks good and what you might expect from LG! Very thin and super light weight. The burn speed was also faster than I expected. Overall, I am very, very happy with this product and I would certainly buy it again. LG really makes great products! I highly recommend this product!
