Greater than one weekPurchased after reading a multitude of reviews for this model and the prior year versions of the same monitor. Went with this newest version. Out of the box connected to a 2020 13” MacBook Pro via the pass through USB-C. One cord- that’s it. I run the Mac on a vertical stand cover closed only using the new monitor as my primary display. No issues with the Mac running with the lid closed at all. Mac immediately charged fast over the included USB-C cord which was a big selling point for me- video and pass-through charging on the included cord. Out of the box the only settings I changed were to increase the brightness to full, increase the sharpness to full, enable the “Super Resolution”, and dial back the audio volume to 20. Unlike a lot of reviews, I found the adjustment joystick easy to use and intuitive. Took all of 5 minutes to adjust the settings, adjusted nothing on the Mac at all. Colors just plain pop. Graphics are crystal clear, tack sharp, and amazing. I agree with other reviews I dislike there is no audio control from the Mac keyboard like I’m used to, but it’s easy to get to from the joystick on the bottom of the monitor to adjust if needed. Audio sounds quite good for a monitor, can’t complain much about the quality. Music sounded just fine. I purchased to use for photo editing, not video, so audio is secondary to me anyway. Very large power brick, plastic construction minus the stand- which is sturdier than it appears. Tilt adjustment, height adjustment, very nice! Virtually no bezel- awesome. Very happy- great pairing to the MacBook. My previous computer was a 2011 27” iMac, and this screen blows that screen away- obviously technology has improved. Would purchase again for sure.

> 3 dayUPDATE 11/2022: As long as you take care not to jostle the cord once inserted in the back of the monitor, it works pretty consistently. After plugging the USB-C into the Mac, its important to wait to hear the connected sound, look for the battery icon to show the charging lightning bolt, and only then close the laptop to put it in clamshell mode. If you dont see the charging lightning bolt, the monitor screen will go dark when you close the laptop. __________________________ I purchased this monitor to work with my M1 Macbook in clamshell mode, and that requires the laptop to be powered. The monitor connection is supposed to power the Mac. To be clear: if the MacBook isn’t receiving power when closed, the monitor goes dark. As numerous other reviews have noted, theres something defective about the hub input for USB-C. It works about 50% of the time, no rhyme or reason. Youll hear the connecting tone, then it disconnects, then it connects, then disconnects. From reading other reviews, its no use getting the monitor replaced, because the replacement will have the same problem. I was out of the return period when I realized this was happening. Lesson learned: when you get electronics, use the f&*% out of them right up front, to make sure theyre going to work in the long run. Other downsides: (1) it’s so bright I can only use it at the very lowest brightness level (and I use Flux to dim the screen in lower light); (2) you must manually adjust all settings using a button under the screen. For instance, the brightness buttons on your Mac will not function.

> 3 dayPer se, its a good monitor. Decent picture quality, very high resolution, sharp image (its 4K after all), easy to mount and set up. Huge panel with a lot of real estate which is always welcome. If you dont compare it with anything else, you will be quite happy with the monitor. BUT: I was expecting it to replicate the LG ultrafine sold on Apples website for me. I already have one of those monitors in my office and was hoping to have the same experience at my home office too. Same manufacturer, apparently same technology, similar specs, good to go, right? But its where the disappointment began. The image quality, the sharpness, the brightness, and the color delivery come nowhere near like that. Even the build quality is inferior: The plastic frame, cables, stand, everything feels less premium. I have no idea if theres any fundamental technological difference between the two panels, or its mostly a matter of firmware/software, but Id go for that Apple-overpriced ultrafine LG panel any day. MACBOOK PRO USERS BEWARE: This monitor has problems with MacOSs HDR. Right off the bat, its activated, shocking you by a pinkish downright garbage image quality once you turn on the monitor and connect it to your Mac. Either Apple or LGs fault, youll need to disable it to get a decent image profile. Thats all I came across through my hours of googling to fix it. (What? I didnt buy a half-a-grand HDR monitor only to disable it!!) VERDICT: Quite disappointed since I expected more based on reviews etc. Still debating between returning it - as much as I hate returning stuff due to the environmental impacts etc - and going for an LG ultrafine from Apple, or keeping it and trying to be happy with it. UPDATE (1 month later): Decided to keep it and give it time so it has a chance of growing on me. Im now quite used to the image quality. No big complaints anymore. The HDR problem with MacBook is still there, even after MacOS 11.4 update. No big deal though as long as you keep it off.

> 3 dayHave been using this for a few months now for my M1 MacBook Pro. This works great and has the benefit of being able to connect to the MacBook using a single, USB-C cable. Pros: - the picture is nice and clear - works flawlessly on M1 MBP - IPS Cons: - Wish the refresh rate were higher than 60hz - Wish you could daisy-chain these monitors together I feel the pros outweigh the cons. Love this monitor and would purchase it again for my WFH setup. Not recommended for gaming.

> 3 dayUPDATE: April 25, 2021: Running into problems with USB-C cables longer than the supplied LG 12 cable, I decided to try Apples cables, since Apple is well-know for making high quality products. First I tried Apples (thin) 1 meter cheaper USB-C Charge Cable. That cable did not work. Next I tried Apples (thick) 0.8 meter more expensive Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Cable. That one works fine. I noticed with all the USB-C cables I have tried, the thickness of the cables that work are much thicker than the cables that did not work. Another benefit I was not expecting is that with the good-working thick Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) cable, all of a sudden my Apple Watch began unlocking my Mac properly. Go figure that one out!! ============================================ This is a wonderful monitor. HOWEVER, if you want to use a USB-C to USB-C cable that is longer than the supplied 12 LG cable, you might not be able to do that: While the supplied 12 LG USB-C cable works fine with my Mac mini M1, I need a longer cable. I tried one of my 3 USB-C cables and it does not work. The Q&A here also shows at least 2 other buyers having the same problem. Thinking it might be a poor quality cable I ordered 2 x 3 Anker USB-C cables: they also did not work. I then tried another of my 3 USB=C cables and it worked. Unfortunately I do not know what brand it is, or where it came from. I just got off the phone with LG support. They could not provide me with a solution for obtaining a USB-C cable that is longer than their supplied 12 USB-C cable. (I am not interested in using an HDMI cable.) LG support repeated told me that any other 3 USB-C cable should work. But clearly not all of them do. I was surprised that even the Anker USB-C 3 cables did not work. LG support also repeated tried to tell me that a *12* monitor cable is the standard length. That, of course, is ridiculous. Its a shame I had to deduct 1 star due to this problem. YMMV Otherwise, again, this is a wonderful monitor.

> 3 dayDCI-P3 98% coverage, brain dead color calibration, 4k, 32in, and the blacks are similar to my va monitors. Checks all the boxes off my list. The refresh rate could be higher but that doesnt matter for my work so this is a 5 stars from me. Nice value from what I can tell.

> 3 dayI recently bought the LG 27UN850-W 27 Inch Ultrafine UHD monitor as an additional display monitor for my Mac Laptop. I was frustrated by the small size of my laptop and used to get neck pain due to it not being ergonomically suitable for my posture. I wanted something that will as clear as my Macs Retina display. I looked at several monitors but most were either low on Image resolution or unreliable. I chose LG because of its 4K resolution, the screen size of 27 inches and the value for money. Ive now been using it for around a couple of weeks and I love it more with each passing day. Its quiet and silent and theres no flickering. I connected my new MAC using USB C and my old Mac using HDMI. The monitor will prompt you to change the input mode in case you switch from one laptop to another and thats a lovely feature! The LG 27UN850-W 27 Inch Ultrafine UHD monitor is available at Amazon at a competitive rate and meets the quality and image resolution parameters pretty well.LG is also a Partner for Mac so I knew LG will be a good investment.

> 3 dayFor the $$, I cant imagine a better monitor. No hiccups at all. For keyboard brightness controls, you can find a few apps to accomplish that. I wish it had automatic brightness control, but OK. The curved stand base is stylish, but awkward on your desk.

> 3 dayI am driving this monitor from an MBP 16in. The key aspects are as follows: * The software and manuals are on a CD/DVD. One might wish that at least the packing would include a physical printout of the manual. * Using the USB-C cable to connect USB-C to USB-C does not drive the monitor with all of its possible options available. * Trying to drive the monitor through a modestly-budgeted (Anker) USB-C to HDMI adaptor does not provide all of the possible options and indeed seems to give issues tracking the color calibration. * The only option that worked was to use a trusted USB-C (thunderbolt) to HDMI adaptor (I use one from iVANKY). This drives the monitor with its fullest options exposed in the menu settings. * The menu toggle is conveniently located at the center bottom. You can adjust the sound volume with left-right action. You can select the full menu options with a press. * The speakers are somewhat tinny sounding. When sound is being driven through the HDMI, you cannot control volume form the MBP, you must use the monitor hardware button (as noted above). Now that this is set up, I appreciate the 4k next to the Retina on the MBP (sitting on the right of the monitor). I appreciate the extra screen real-estate. I can have a split-view of two different apps running nicely on this monitor. Finally, I appreciate being able to toggle between different pre-sets in monitor output, such a Vivid, Custom, or Cinema. I use this to run Vivid in daylight, a lower-brightness Custom set in dimmer evening light, and Cinema for video movie streaming. Overall, this is a very good to excellent option as a second monitor to a MBP 16in.

> 3 dayThis is a decent monitor for light use. I dont use it for gaming, and I dont use it for high production creative work, where color exactness is really important. But for everyday tasks, such as zoom meetings and email and such, it is very nice and works well. My only complaint with the design is that the stand sticks out too much for my liking. The total footprint of the monitor is about 9 deep, and the stand sticks out about 4 in front of the monitor. I remember when I bought the monitor, I read some reviews that said the built in speakers are ok. They are not. They are as terrible as you would imagine them to be. Also I remember reading that people did not like the nipple that you use to set the ports on the monitor and control other settings. I have not had any problems with that interface. It seems easy enough to me, even if its slightly annoying.
