> 3 dayThis is a decent monitor for light use. I dont use it for gaming, and I dont use it for high production creative work, where color exactness is really important. But for everyday tasks, such as zoom meetings and email and such, it is very nice and works well. My only complaint with the design is that the stand sticks out too much for my liking. The total footprint of the monitor is about 9 deep, and the stand sticks out about 4 in front of the monitor. I remember when I bought the monitor, I read some reviews that said the built in speakers are ok. They are not. They are as terrible as you would imagine them to be. Also I remember reading that people did not like the nipple that you use to set the ports on the monitor and control other settings. I have not had any problems with that interface. It seems easy enough to me, even if its slightly annoying.

> 3 dayI am driving this monitor from an MBP 16in. The key aspects are as follows: * The software and manuals are on a CD/DVD. One might wish that at least the packing would include a physical printout of the manual. * Using the USB-C cable to connect USB-C to USB-C does not drive the monitor with all of its possible options available. * Trying to drive the monitor through a modestly-budgeted (Anker) USB-C to HDMI adaptor does not provide all of the possible options and indeed seems to give issues tracking the color calibration. * The only option that worked was to use a trusted USB-C (thunderbolt) to HDMI adaptor (I use one from iVANKY). This drives the monitor with its fullest options exposed in the menu settings. * The menu toggle is conveniently located at the center bottom. You can adjust the sound volume with left-right action. You can select the full menu options with a press. * The speakers are somewhat tinny sounding. When sound is being driven through the HDMI, you cannot control volume form the MBP, you must use the monitor hardware button (as noted above). Now that this is set up, I appreciate the 4k next to the Retina on the MBP (sitting on the right of the monitor). I appreciate the extra screen real-estate. I can have a split-view of two different apps running nicely on this monitor. Finally, I appreciate being able to toggle between different pre-sets in monitor output, such a Vivid, Custom, or Cinema. I use this to run Vivid in daylight, a lower-brightness Custom set in dimmer evening light, and Cinema for video movie streaming. Overall, this is a very good to excellent option as a second monitor to a MBP 16in.

> 3 dayPer se, its a good monitor. Decent picture quality, very high resolution, sharp image (its 4K after all), easy to mount and set up. Huge panel with a lot of real estate which is always welcome. If you dont compare it with anything else, you will be quite happy with the monitor. BUT: I was expecting it to replicate the LG ultrafine sold on Apples website for me. I already have one of those monitors in my office and was hoping to have the same experience at my home office too. Same manufacturer, apparently same technology, similar specs, good to go, right? But its where the disappointment began. The image quality, the sharpness, the brightness, and the color delivery come nowhere near like that. Even the build quality is inferior: The plastic frame, cables, stand, everything feels less premium. I have no idea if theres any fundamental technological difference between the two panels, or its mostly a matter of firmware/software, but Id go for that Apple-overpriced ultrafine LG panel any day. MACBOOK PRO USERS BEWARE: This monitor has problems with MacOSs HDR. Right off the bat, its activated, shocking you by a pinkish downright garbage image quality once you turn on the monitor and connect it to your Mac. Either Apple or LGs fault, youll need to disable it to get a decent image profile. Thats all I came across through my hours of googling to fix it. (What? I didnt buy a half-a-grand HDR monitor only to disable it!!) VERDICT: Quite disappointed since I expected more based on reviews etc. Still debating between returning it - as much as I hate returning stuff due to the environmental impacts etc - and going for an LG ultrafine from Apple, or keeping it and trying to be happy with it. UPDATE (1 month later): Decided to keep it and give it time so it has a chance of growing on me. Im now quite used to the image quality. No big complaints anymore. The HDR problem with MacBook is still there, even after MacOS 11.4 update. No big deal though as long as you keep it off.

> 3 dayUpdate 8/16/2021: one display has developed two vertical lines of dead pixels after less than a week of use. This was a Warehouse returns, so the fault lies more with Amazon than LG. I purchased a pair of these 27UN850-W displays, and they perform as you would expect from a mid-range IPS display, good color accuracy, wide viewing angle, and no dead pixels on either. For productivity work, these are perfect. 60hz refresh rate isnt going to cut it for high-end gaming although Freesync will help there. Color accuracy isnt going to be sufficient for professional design and video editing. Certified for HDR400, but know that this definitely HDR-light, if you HDR is important to you, look elsewhere. Didnt try the monitor stand, but VESA mounting worked as it should. Left, right, and top margins are about 1/4 so for multi-monitor setups you will have about 1/2 boundary between workspaces. For dual monitor work scenario for documents, GIS, code, and the like, flat panels with a wide viewing angle like these are quite good. For me, these were an excellent value from Amazon Warehouse (Used - Acceptable), where these like-new displays that are missing bonus materials cost under $300. At MSRP of $450, these are a fair price.

> 3 dayI have a Apple Mini and was using a old Samsung monitor. I hooked this up and wow, what a difference! This thing is bright, crisp and a good size. I love Apple products, but couldn’t justify buying their expensive monitor.

> 3 dayI connect this monitor to my M1 MacBook Air and it works great. I keep the MacBook in clamshell mode and it charges nicely while using the monitor. There also seems to be a battery health think going on because it will go down to 80% and then back up to 100%. I think this is Apple keeping the battery moving and healthy. Would not hesitate to recommend this monitor to those in my situation. The con is that the speakers are not great - they are OK. Other than that - wonderful monitor.

> 3 dayI highly recommend two large computer screens for internet use. This one was easy to hook up and looks good and is small enough to fit under my shelving. A previous different brand screen failed after a few years. I am hoping this will last more than a few years. It is a LG which we have had good luck with with our TV. Hopefully Amazon will ask me in five years whether this is a good product. It is crazy to ask in two months whether this will last!!!!!

> 3 dayFirst, when connected to my MacBook Pro 16, this is an awesome monitor. Setup was easy, and it gracefully handles being plugged in, and unplugged. The speakers on the back are even useful. Now for the bad. Theres no easy way to adjust the sound when the app doesnt present a volume slider. When using with Linux, it sort of works, but there are no settings that can place the monitor in some kind of comparability mode, so I get half a screen what is basically unusable. This means that in my dual setup, If I want to do development on Linux, I need to use another monitor.

> 3 dayAlthough I am aware this is a productivity monitor first, I was in the market for a 4K60 Monitor that could game well and would not break the bank. I am used to gaming on console so 120FPS support was not something I required as I am satisfied with 60FPS. I did endless amounts of research on various brands in this pricepoint to figure out what would be the best monitor in terms of screen quality and response time. This specific model did not have many reviews in terms of gaming performance, however I did know that LG makes great gaming monitors, this one has a game mode, and I was already looking at the LG 4K model priced below this one. When this model went on sale, I took a risk and purchased it over other highly praised monitors in this price point not knowing if it would be good for gaming, and I can answer that YES it is! Starting with screen quality, brightness is great, contrast is beyond expectation, white, gray, and black uniformity are all top notch, with little to no IPS glow. Colors are accurate and the resolution keeps things sharp. No complaints. For gaming, when you put this monitor directly side by side with a high refresh gaming monitor, it is extremely noticeable that this will not be as fast of a monitor as something gaming dedicated in terms of response time, however it is much more responsive than a normal 60FPS TV or other productivity based screens. I also have a 15 inch macbook retina display, and the response time on this monitor is atleast twice as good. Unless you are an ultra competitive high refresh gaming enthusiast, you will not notice any kind of input lag or poor pixel response in this monitor. It is just as good or better than playing console on a high end TV, and in gaming scenarios, I personally can not tell the difference between the response time on this monitor and my LG gaming monitor. It is only when using UFOTest that the difference becomes very apparent, and this mainly comes down to the difference in FPS. If I ran my dedicated LG gaming monitor at 60FPS, the response would be about the same. In short, if you are used to gaming on console with a TV and are looking for a responsive 60FPS display to prioritize image quality and play mostly singly player games with high settings, get this one and you will not have any regrets. If you are looking for the fastest thing in gaming and play mostly multiplayer competitive games you shouldnt even be reading this review. If you CAN afford it, I would highly recommend a 4K120 gaming monitor for the best of both worlds. In this price point with realistic expectations in mind, this is a fantastic monitor!

12-06-2025The LG 27UN850 is a great addition to an Apple Mac mini. It produces an image comparable to an iMacs Retina 5 display without the higher cost. As a previous iMac user, I was looking for a monitor to go with Apples new Mac mini with the new M1 chip that would produce comparable results. Connection was very simple as I just plugged in the LG HDMI cable (included) between the monitor and the mini. There were no settings to make--just plug it in. I could not see much of difference betweens the iMacs display and the LG just using the naked eye. If you work with graphics and want an even better display, LG offers a 5K display that it more that double of the 27UN850. The difference in price was not worth the expense! You can easily spend over $1000 for a quality monitor, but the LG 27UN850 is a great compromise if you are looking for a crisp, high quality display.
