Liquitex BASICS Gesso Surface Prep Medium, 473ml (16-oz) Bottle, White

This is Total Garbage, a$5.00 can of Spray Paint works MUCH better. NOTHING is WORSE then this It is IMPOSSIBLE to get a smooth finish. It is so thick that it leaves ridges that must be sanded, A LOT. It might be worth the effort IF it covered in one or two coats. I am covering a red and white box so I can paint it a different color and want the new color to be even. This will not cover. After two coats waiting 24 hours and not sanding between coats, I can still read the fine print (red on white) on the box and the red pictures are still very visible. A bottle of 10 cent childrens water color paint would cover better in ONE coat. NEVER USE this if you want to end up with a smooth high gloss finish. After and hour of sanding trying to get this smooth and removing most it, it looked smooth and felt smooth...... BUT after priming with a Rust-Oleum gloss white paint & primer I can still see the ridges. Good thing this was a test piece. Now I know - NEVER use this on anything that you want to have a quality finish

Gesso is good, but mine arrived a few days late, with a broken inside seal so gesso got all over the bottle.

Age used 7 to 18. A little thin. Make sure you know the purpose of using this. Needs a little education if not. 18 year old granddaughter got some drift wood, put it in AFTER drift wood dried. The acrylic paint took really good. Add black acrylic paint & then use it as a base coat under acrylic metallic & that make it pop even more. This also comes in black to avoid that step. A little pricey for the amount you get. But in my opinion its worth it. Check out you tube for MANY helpful ways to use.

Good Gesso does the job.

I’m glad I was able to get this as I heard wonderful reviews. The box was completely intact but when I unwrapped the plastic and actually opened the top, I found the cap itself was broken. I’m disappointed with this as it doesn’t close all the way and I don’t want this to dry up prematurely and effect it’s ability to work. I did a test run on some mixed media paper and it did great but I’m afraid it won’t last as long as it should with this defective cap.

Super easy to use and great value for the money. I used it to seal the Sheetrock paper that had been left exposed by previous homeowner when they removed the wallpaper. At first, the paper blistered, but it looked perfect once it dried. Then I applied the new wallpaper over it.

Gesso gives a finish to paint on a beautiful effect. Without it the canvas shows through and takes away the desired look. I am a beginner, but want to have something worth my effort to be proud of the accomplishment.

Haven’t used it again but it did exactly what I wanted. It was recommended in an acrylic instruction book for a thinning technique.
