This was very difficult to add to homekit. I did have success with the partner brand “refoss” indoor smart plugs (after forcing our eero network into 2.4ghz mode, adding to homekit (unsuccessfully), updating the firmware in the meross/refoss app, removing, resetting the plugs and then they added to homekit in the home app. I did not have such luck with this meross outdoor plug. I tried resetting the eero network, restarting the phone, ensured I was on 2.4ghz, resetting the plug each attempt, tried scanning the code, entering the code, and kept getting the error “unable to add accessory” “make sure your iPhone is connected to wi-fi, then try pairing again”. I was about to give up then tried adding the plug using the other person’s phone who has access to homekit in the home app. It added on the first try! So, if anyone is having issues adding to homekit, try a different device and try adding with the “primary” user in homekit (the person who first set up the home in homekit) -even if it says all users have the same access and you don’t have trouble adding any other homekit devices.

I now have several of these devices in my HomeKit network. I am slowly replacing other outdoor switches as they are much less reliable, requiring periodic unplugging and replugging to get them to respond again. These Meross outdoor switches stay connected and work as advertised. I dont think I have had a single disconnection with them yet! Once or twice I have had to struggle a bit to set them up initially, but in those situations a second try always worked.

This does exactly what its meant to do. I mounted this to my pergola to control my outdoor string lights via Home Kit. The unit comes with two plug-ins and each can be controlled separately in the Home app. The only downside (in my situation using only one of the outlets) is that you have to go into the accessory to physically click on Outlet 1 or Outlet 2, but thats a minor downside as verbally telling Siri to turn on Outlet 1 works just fine. Its currently on a $5 discount and regardless, I would buy this again.

So far this outdoor switch has been working flawlessly. I have it connected to a string light and set up an automation to turn them on at dusk and off at dawn and it has been working exactly like I wanted. I’ve been using HomeKit devices since their inception and this was by far the easiest and smoothest to set up. It does only work on 2.4GHz networks, like a lot of HomeKit devices, but it has not been an issue. It’s also very nice that you can control both outlets independently on the Home app. I honestly did not expect that and although I don’t have a use for the other plug yet, I think it’s a great feature. Hopefully it holds up over time outdoors as I don’t know what I’d do without it now!

It was super easy to setup and connect to HomeKit. Take it out of the box, plug it into the outlet and press the power button. Wait about 2-3 mins and check the WiFi settings for a new option to setup the meross outdoor plug. Once you tap it, it takes you to the Home app and asks to scan the HomeKit setup code (it’s on the side of the plug). Once it’s scanned, it’ll connect after 1-2 mins and you’re up and running. Compared to the Wemo Outdoor Plug, this plug lets you treat each outlet as an individual HomeKit accessory. It was also half the price! It started drizzling rain this afternoon on my balcony (12th floor) and no issues so far but too soon to tell. I’ll be sure to update this review.

It took me perhaps seven minutes to get this set up to control some outdoor lights. You use your smartphone to set it up. The two sockets are individually controlled and offer a lot of power for the money. Both can be actuated manually via smartphone app, or via your home automation platform. Ours is an Apple household, so I used my iPhone to set it up and connect it to our houses HomeKit hub (an Apple TV) for secure Internet accessibility and programmability. Apple Homekit allowed me to set up an automation so that one of this units sockets (in our case, running some outdoor lights) turns on every evening at sunset, adjusting automatically for the season and Daylight Savings Time. The socket is then set to automatically turn off at 10:30 each night. The second socket well use for Christmas lights. This replaces a high-end outdoor timer that was always getting screwed up by power failures and of course the beginning and ending of Daylight Savings Time. (It was high end in the sense that its a model meant to last more than 18 months, which cheaper timers dont, in my experience.) The old timer is located in a really inconvenient place, so the remote controllability and programmability (via HomeKit) of this device really addresses a lot of frustrations! Physically, its just a sturdy AC cord with a plug on one end and the socket assembly on the other. Its not heavy and is meant to simply hang off a wall outlet. No mounting is required. Recommended! If any troubles develop, Ill update this review. Based on first impressions, its a solid five stars.

I bought this a year ago for use with HomeKit (Siri) for backyard lights. It isnt perfect, but it earns the fifth star: The bad: Setting up took a few tries, and maybe twice in a year, HomeKit required me to re-pair the device for reasons unknown. Requires you to turn off 5GHz, if you have it, to set up (2.4GHz only). Also, you may have to try a couple different names for the device and the separate outlets if you want to be able to control each plug separately while retaining the ability to turn them both on and off as a single device (e.g. front yard, back yard, whole yard). The good: Does the job. Switches on and off very quickly. Wifi works fine once its set up. If it requires re-pairing, the process isnt difficult. The button on the device works reliably even before its set up. Waterproofing has been reliable for a year, even through pretty heavy storms. The best: a week ago, I had to re-pair it and discovered that I hadnt written down the HomeKit code, and the sticker that had it printed on had come off. So I wrote in to Meross through their support page with a couple pieces of info (the devices default WiFi network name and its MAC address, both available from my Eero router control app), and they got back to me in a day with the HomeKit code for re-pairing (along with an apology for taking so long). I was very pleasantly surprised with that kind of high-quality customer support.

This is the second one I’ve tried and both were problematic. I had no problems returning them and receiving credit.

This is a sturdy, easy to use unit with reliable Alexa integration. Even though it’s only rated for 10 amps or 1250 watts, it uses a higher grade, weather resistant 14 AWG electrical cable rated as SJTW, 105C. The outlets are plugged with thick rubber caps that look like they’ll hold up well. Setup is simple, thanks to well written instructions and a good app. There’s a separate set of instructions for the Homekit users too. It has a handy notch to mount the outlet to the wall (though I wish this was offset so that the screw would be accessible). There’s also a little loop on the strain relief that can serve a similar purpose. The app is great. It does a good job of guiding the setup process and it seems to be written by someone who understands English like a native speaker. Once set up, the app has a couple features that are sometimes overlooked: a countdown timer so that the outlet will automatically turn off after X minutes and an option to turn off the LEDS. Plus, there’s a widget to control devices directly from the homescreen. Also, it has one essential feature that every manufacturer ought to have: a direct link to the manual. Alexa integration works flawlessly and the wifi range seems good. Alexa commands are carried out reliably and with no more than a couple seconds delay. Alexa routines also work well. Each plug can be named and addressed independently. The unit as a whole can also be named. (Hint: use names that sounds distinctly different.) Right now I have the unit about 150’ from an access point, going through half a dozen walls, in a RF congested area and I’ve had zero issues.

Ive been getting into Homekit so I bought 3 of these to replace a different non-Homekit brand Ive been using for years. I have one thats completely outdoors (up against the wall) to control a landscape lighting transformer. These are IP44 rated so they can take some splashing but they should still be somewhat protected if possible. I have another out in a shed and another in the garage. All working flawlessly for several weeks in a wide range of weather conditions. Although not always useful since you might not have two things to power separately at the same location, I really like that the two outlets can be controlled independently from the app or Homekit. One of my uses is synching this outlet to the Meross wall switch that controls the flood lights for my back yard. Even with my flood lights on, there was an area in teh back corner that was still dark. However, I have a shed with power available back there. I installed some new floodlights on the shed and Im powering them through this device. Now when we flip the switch inside the house to turn on our old flood lights the new ones mounted to the shed come on at the same moment as if they were all wired together. I use the second outlet to turn the lights inside the shed on and off since the second outlet is there anyway. Im pleased with these so far and will update should anything change.
