I pretty much assumed Gripe Water was total hocus pocus because the bottle says its for anything related to fussiness, gas, or colic. This one is two bottles per package. Inside is a syrupy liquid that you feed to the baby in a dropper. The recommended portion size is 2.5mm. Ive tasted it myself and it has a sweet, fennel taste. The main ingredients are sugar, baking soda, fennel and ginger extracts. Generally my baby eats this pretty easily without much fuss about the taste. One gripe is that its sweet and sticky so it can get smeared on babys face or spit up a bit leaving a sticky residue. Ive tried it a bunch of times and its most effective when baby actually has gas. For instance, when shes finished eating and seems uncomfortable, gripe water can sometimes cause her to burp big. However, there are other instances when my baby was fussy from being tired and of course, gripe water was of no help whatsoever. So long as you dont think of gripe water as a panacea, and realize its best with true gas, then it actually sort of works. Updated 10/29/14: I took a swig when I was having a really bad gassy moment. I dont know whether it was a coincidence or related to the gripe water but holy cow, I was seriously feeling atrocious. The taste was as I recalled, vaguely of anise/licorice but it left this dry feeling down my whole throat. I felt exhausted and worn out from the whole gaseous experience. Since then Ive felt bad giving it to my bebe.

Let me start by saying I am not a fan of medicines. I can count on one hand the amount of times Ive given my 3 year old Tylenol. Even through teething. I prefer to find more natural alternatives. That being said, this stuff is what miracles are made of. My second child is a bit gassy sometimes, as infants tend to be a lot between 1-4 months. This stuff is amazing and allows everyone to get some sleep. Whenever she seems colicky or is having a crying fit for more than 20 minutes or so, I go for the gripe water as long as Ive tried changing her diaper, feeding, pacifier and its none of those things. She slurps it up easily, unlike other gripe waters that smell and taste terrible. This one has a very mild flavor (yes, I tasted it). I dont have to wrestle with her to get her to take it. Within minutes, if not seconds, shes calm and feeling better, and usually lets out a huge burp which is the culprit causing her crying fit. She then settles into a nice long restful sleep. We all win. This is why I say it really is Mommys bliss. Sometimes I think it helps produce a bowel movement as well. She will usually poop within 1/2 hour after taking it and its usually larger than most other times, which Im sure helps her tummy as well. I highly recommend this product. The ingredients are very safe in my opinion, and I dont feel weird or scared giving this to her once a day for a couple of days if I have to. Its made up mostly of fennel and ginger extracts, so its not really a medicine. I feel much better about giving this to her than a simethicone medicine which I probably would not give her.

Whether we know what the true resolution is or not, Ive become a confident believer in gripe water! Our baby was screaming in pain from gas bubbles. We just kept trying to work through it. I had heard of gripe water and other gas relief products but I was told they dont really work and are only soothing for the parents minds with a screaming baby. Well, I got to the point where my heart was breaking seeing my little one in so much pain. I did the bicycle exercise, leg exercises, constant burping in every position possible, tummmy time, etc and it would take him hours to work through it. So I did a bunch of online research of gas products and read a ton of reviews and finally overnighted the gripe water. Boy was it a miracle!! I gave him the suggested doses and within minutes he is calm and happy and restful. I never leave home without it and recommend it highly!

This product may not instantaneously convert a cry to a giggle, but it reduces babys stomach discomfort by converting acidity in the stomach to burps, so try to burp your baby after feeding this. Reduced stomach discomfort lets baby relax, which lets baby go to sleep. Could you ask for more? Were almost though our our first pack of 2 bottles and weve just ordered 2 more packs (4 bottles) so we dont run out. We dont feed baby this with a syringe but in a small bottle instead. We only use the syringe to measure the quantity to put into the empty bottle. Since this liquid flows faster through the nipple than breast milk or formula, your baby may try to drink too much too soon and panic. You dont need to panic though. Just remove the bottle from the babys mouth if baby appears troubled, let baby swallow and clear throat, then resume feeding the remaining liquid in the bottle. Easy does it.

I got a lot of advice from other parents about which baby things were must haves. This always topped the list so in the last week of pregnancy I bought a bottle of this to have around just in case. Cut to 4 weeks later and my baby is wailing and contorting himself in the midst of an episode of pain thanks to an, at the time, undiagnosed milk protein allergy. In desperation we tore the container open and gave our poor exhausted son a dose of this gripe water, mostly to just feel like we were doing something, anything, to help him. It was so effective at neutralizing his gas and/or distracting him (whatever it does) that he immediately stopped thrashing and fell asleep because he had exhausted himself so much. I mean immediately. It brought such relief to him and he relaxed so thoroughly and quickly that I started frantically asking my husband if he was still breathing. He was, of course, still breathing. I had just never seen my baby that relaxed. Yeah, its one of my more embarrassing first time mom freak outs. Weve been using Mommys Bliss gripe water as necessary since then and it always makes my son noticeably more comfortable. My only word of caution is for some reason, maybe the sweetness, or the slight viscosity to it, our son chokes on it pretty severely (its like its sticky and gets caught in his windpipe) if we try to give it to him straight. Id suggest you mix it with a half oz of breast milk or formula (whatever liquids your child takes) to dilute it a bit. I stockpile this stuff now. I would rather run out of diapers than run out of this gripe water.

Mostly carribean and weather Indian folks use Gripe water, but it surely should be common item in a household with a baby. Bath, lotion up and gripe water and youll have a happy, gut happy baby!!!

It works, so far. I have a little less than a ml mixed into 3oz for a 2 weeks old. The easiness of gas and stool releases are noticeable. She hasn’t complained, so far. I would give it a five. Pending future experiences when she advances beyond two month age.
