> 24 hourMy initial impression of this drive is *not* encouraging (for writing data to disks)!! Im using Verbatim BD-R disks, and have used three different programs now to handle disk writes; CyberLink (which comes with the drive), Ashampoo Burning Studio (free), and BurnAware free. I have had 3 dead disks out of 6 tries. My system is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I tried looking for a firmware update for the drive, but cannot find one on the company site. I tried calling tech support, but they hung up on me without ever reaching a human; I have an email request in now. I also considered using a separate power supply, though the Pioneer docs insist that is not required. I *do* hope I can resolve this before I receive the more-expensive M-disc disks that Ive ordered; throwing out half of those will *not* be acceptable!!

> 24 hourKEEP IN MIND WINDOWS 10 DOES NOT COME WITH PLAYBACK SOFTWARE FOR BLU-RAY. It works great but its so thin it feels flimsy. The included playback software is outdated and kind of janky but it works. Can always upgrade later.

> 24 hourI bought a cheaper external disc drive that didnt work and didnt do what I needed, so I ordered this Pioneer BDR-XD07B. It worked perfectly, right out of the box. I work with a lot of different disc and file formats and this product had no problem reading and transferring files, applications, and videos.

> 24 hourInitially, the drive would not detect the presence of Verbatim BD-R disks. Fought with the drive rotating from a USB 3.1 to a USB 2.0 and back again. Posted here and suggested that I try a different brand of disk, and that worked. I then tried the Verbatim disks again and through a process of trial and error that the first few disks in the spindle were defective for some reason. Even on a 3.1 port, the drive seems a little slow, but it is acceptable - minimally. As for the free CyberLink, forget it. There are several words I could use, but recommend an independent burner or one that is supplied with video creating software, such as Pinnacle, or similar. Thanks to those who responded to my question.
