I took a pretty big hiatus from the Pokemon games, skipping most generations post Gold/Silver to play Black fairly recently. Decided Id be buying this day one. Loved the main game, although the story was a bit lighter in content than White/Black. The post game was also fairly light and didnt provide much incentive to keep playing beyond catching some legendaries. Lots of lovely tunes, many of which where remixed or incorporated tunes from previous games, increasing my love of them tenfold. I felt like a little kid again playing this. The main game is also very easy. If you want a challenge at all, turn off EXP Share. I will say the framerate in battle can be pretty atrocious, especially with 3D on. It wont prevent you from playing, but it does make things distinctly less nice to look at.

I decided I wanted to buy Pokemon Y because I hadnt played a Pokemon game in forever and I wanted to bring back the nostalgia of Pokemon Blue back from when I was in elementary school. The Pokemon franchise has come a long way since its initial debut in the 90s but for its time I still think the original games were better. Having said that, this game is still great and if youre a Pokemon fan Im sure youll enjoy it. Graphics and individual moves have come a long way since the last time I played one of these games and its refreshing. The game play is similar to most Pokemon games. You collect badges by beating different gym leaders in various towns around the map with the intention of eventually beating the Elite 4. I like the fact that this game has the old classic Pokemon like Squirtle and Pikachu as well as new ones Ive never seen before. The only negative thing I can see about this game is that it seems a little too easy to me and thats why I gave it 4 stars.. To be honest, I dont know all the strengths and weaknesses of each Pokemon type but even still I felt like I didnt have any trouble getting through most of the game (I will say that I am not through the game completely, but I am near completing the main story). I kind of miss back in the old days where I had to grind for a while to level my Pokemon up or get a certain type in order to beat a certain gym. I never had to do that in this game.

For the most part, its the quality Ive come to expect from a Pokemon game, but it still has a few glaring flaws. -First and foremost, they force you to pay a monthly fee to be able to transfer your Pokemon from the 5th gen games. Yes, I know the first month is free, giving you ample time to transfer everything that you cant catch in X or Y.. But its the principle of the thing: there is no reason that we shouldnt have been able to do with this new game what you could with the 5th gen games. What I mean to say, is that here isnt even a technical limitation: 3DS to DS communication IS possible, despite whatever the idiots defending this obvious cash-grab may tell you. Dont beleive me? The most recent Dragon Quest Monsters title, a Japan-only 3DS release, allowed you transfer monsters from previous titles for the DS, This isnt a case of using a 3DS in DS mode, like you might have done with your 5th gen games to transfer Pokemon over from 4th gen games... its true, undisputed, 3DS to DS communication. Nintendo could have done the same thing with X and Y, but chose not to. I could understand setting up this online transfer thing as an option for people who dont still own a DS, but the rest of us got fleeced. Hopefully, enough people will catch wind of this fact, and Nintendo will fix the problem for Pokemon Z or whatever they call the inevitable third version. -After you defeat the Elite 4, theres very little left to do other than to complete the Pokedex. The post-game hasnt been this pathetic since Red, Blue, and Yellow. For a game that I dropped $40 on, I should be getting a lot more. -Only one new evolved form of an old Pokemon (Sylveon)? Really? You can slap however many extra spikes on Charizard that you want, it doesnt change the fact that we still dont have evolved or pre-evolved forms that weve been requesting for a long time. Its not like you couldnt have made room for them. Did we really need an all-new family of moths/butterflies? Werent the FOUR we already had (Butterfree, Beautifly/Dustox, Mothim, Volcarona) enough? -While you have to give Game Freak credit for trying something different with Team Flare, I still feel that their story was really rather rushed. And what happened to AZ after your battle with him? Both issues could have been fixed with a better post game. In summation... the game lives up to a lot of the things Nintendo promised us (the visuals, trainer customization, Mega Evolution, etc), but it also suffers in a lot of other areas. Long time fans like myself will enjoy it (theres even a lot of little references to older games in it), but if you can only buy one Pokemon game this generation, I think Id recommend waiting for Z or whatever they call the third version. I have a feeling that it will expand on the story a bit, give us more of a post game (as usual), and maybe even give us a free transfer option. This is assuming, of course, that its more of a traditional third version and not a straight up sequel like Black 2 and White 2, but either way, you might want to wait.

Absolutely beautiful game! Great new features. Its like a breath of fresh air into the Pokemon game franchise. I do have some problems like: 1) Not much post game content. 2) The story was kind of weak and the way the Legendary Mascot was tied into the story was sloppy. It felt like the Legendary Pokemon was just thrown in there just because thats the way it is supposed to be. 3) The game did feel easy at times. Meaning the difficulty level was lower than past games. Even though I turned off the EXP.SHARE, I destroyed the Elite Four and the Gym Leaders without much trouble. 4) Catching the Legendaries was easy (at least for me). Only took me like 4 Ultra Balls. I remember when I would use up all my Ultra Balls (60-80) and would have to restart at my save point to try catching it again. Other than that, the game is beautiful with new great features. The online aspect has lots of great features, which is what Pokemon is all about, which is why I still gave it five stars even though I had problems with it.

I have played pokemon since the beginning (blue progressing onward). I stopped playing at platinum. I decided to pick up the newest one and said why the hell not. Well. . . I just really dont see the difficulty in it at all granted it is a pokemon game. I feel as though previous generation of pokemon games had more of a challenge factor to them than Pokemon Y. This game is just easy. Cons: Hardly any use of HMs outside the field of battle, TMs are unlimited (seriously why unlimited it takes the challenge out of the game in my opinion), the story is boring/pointless doesnt really inspire me to keep playing the story part but its pretty much linear so you have to, and this new generation of pokemon arent the greatest just blase. (Not a purist by the way first generation wasnt the greatest either. I actually like 3rd generation/4th generation.) Pros: Berry system is awesome. Easier to grow what you want and pretty lenient on growing them and getting to them once they blossomed. The transportation between the roller skates and bike is great! Like switching between the two. The battle system is really smooth other than when youre fight five of them at one time (unless you have a move like earthquake that hits all five). The cities that you go to are truly unique in their own way. I actually like the towns in-between that dont have gyms. Gives it more of a real world feel to it. The online features are awesome! Probably my favorite feature is the virtual trainer and the little play with your pokemon deal (sorry forgot name). Sorta brings back the feel of pokemon yellow where you got to play with your pikachu! Overall its not too bad. If you like the online aspect of this game being able to play with other players around the world, trading, and battling get this! If youre looking for some of the old school fun well then I wouldnt get it.

love the new pokemon and it have really good mechanics. i was worried about the 3d pokemon design but they work great. the story like is the same than every pokemon game just with slightly differences. the cities are nice to look at and you can feel different feeling for each new city. the character are a little nicer than the other pokemon version but i find them really dorky. i am referring to the rapper in the game. he is totally out of place here, meaning he have nothing to do as a a second main character here and feel like he is an extract in the game.

I LOVE that you can customize your character; clothes, hair, and they even have a darker skin tone for my character. This game is a lot more social than the predecessors, from adding people to your friends list and such. The world is not flat. The camera moves on its own as you walk around and it actually feels like you are in the game. It was also nice they brought back the old Pokémon from previous generations. I dont see the purpose of Megaevolution. I dont see the purpose of Fairy types when Ice and Dragon moves are actually a weakness to Dragon type Pokémon. And...the rest of the game is just boring for me. The more I played it, the more I got less interested in the story. Im not going to complain that the game is too easy because Pokémon is a kids game, its suppose to be easy. The gym leaders and the Elite Four arent difficult to fight. And the story/plot was boring, Pokémon was a lot more interesting. And even after you beat the game, theres nothing else to do.

Its a nice game. Good Pokemon selection, decent visuals, cool Pokemon animation, and the character customization is nice. Its also far, far, far too easy. Im actually pretty sure every game before this one isnt this easy. I actually beat the Champion in exactly 20 hours, and wasnt even threatened during that fight. No grinding, no slog, just victory. Also, theres also (almost) no stereo 3D outside of battle and some noticeable framerate issues. Solid enough, especially as an introduction point to the series.

The game works fine, but it would have been very nice if the vendor had stated that the box and instruction manual were not included. I would have still purchased it if they had, and rated it as 5 stars. Being upfront about a simple thing like this goes a long way towards customer satisfaction.

I got a package back on 12/3 thinking it was this game. It was supposed to be this game, but I order so much on Amazon and didnt think I would have to open it up until I was ready to wrap it. Well I waited and opened it on 12/18 freaking out because it was actually a childrens book (and there was no packing slip on top of that). After talking to Amazon, they sent me the game and gave me 2 day shipping so I would have it. That is what I love about Amazon. Not only did they do that, but my son has not stopped playing this game. Great quality and price.
