After Pokemon Black and White 2 launched last year, I was concerned for the future of Pokemon games. I knew theyd eventually return their former glory, but it was a question of when. The time has come. Pokemon X/Y reinvents the franchise by removing tedious grinding(game progression being tied to spending excess hours doing similar battles) and adding in new game mechanics, such as mega evolution. The game also features a much improved 3D world. The game feels similar to Pokemon Colosseum, which I absolutely loved. If you have been waiting for a point to jump back into Pokemon or want to give it a go for the first time, this is a great entry point.

Love the game. Much easier than the originals with a lot to do. Its easier to make money although poke balls are useless just about come later in the game so just go buy the more expensive balls. Lots of pokemon to collect, the trading system is awesome. The safari friend zone is garbage because you cant get in or at least I have yet to figure out how due to the problems with the friend codes and what not. I also was annoyed that the trainers (the final four or whatever they are called) not only hide behind a bunch of other trainers before you even get to them but they are themed so its really easy to beat them with the right group. Also annoying that the other trainers you encounter use super potions all day long mid fight so you need to get tons of those too. Still a pretty cool game though.

This game improves on a bunch of flaws in earlier games, but I want to mention a couple of things that kept me from making a 5 star rating. The main story is kind of bleh... The main villains in the game that you encounter, Team Flair, are about as one-demensional as a cardboard cutout in a supermarket. They are basically team rocket with a change of clothing. The cookie cutter enemies in the game have always bothered me in pokemon games, and this one is no different. Stop being lazy nintendo! Secondly, while it is amazing you can easily trade with other players online, you cant say anything to them unless they are on your friends list. So basically if you start a trade with another player, neither person can understand what the other wants. Why cant we just type in what we are looking for?? Third, but not at all least. It is easy to scam people when trading pokemon online because you for some reason cannot view detailed stats about the pokemon you are trading for. Want an adamant ditto? Well just hope the other player is honest, because there is no guarantee that is what you will get. Fourth. Why no item deposit box? I want to store the items I dont use, and I dont want to put them on pokemon in the pc. This is a basic useful feature and I still have no idea why they took it out.

Ive played both X and Y, and, as with most other Pokemon games, they are essentially the same game with a few differences in available Pokemon. This definitely isnt my favorite Pokemon game, but thats not saying much. This game focuses much more on the story and adds an interesting deviation from the classic rivals from the previous games. Being the first game for the 3DS, its graphics are, of course, an immense improvement from Gen 5. While Im not super critical on aesthetics for portable games, the animations definitely add a great deal to the overall feel and immersion. Overall a great game, and while I do enjoy Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire more, X/Y offer enough to deserve a place in any Pokemon fans collection.

This game is great as a nostalgia piece and on its own merits. The addition of Mega Evolutions and the Fairy type has changed the game for the better. Game Freaks didnt go overboard with new Pokemon, instead sprinkling them in and filling in the rest of the roster with great monsters from previous generations. This allows returning players a sense of newness and familiarity. The new battle sequences are also a much needed improvement over the basic sprite based battles from the past. The only two issues I really had with the game are with the difficulty and the online trading system. 1) Very early in the game the player receives an item that gives every Pokemon on the team half of the experience for the fight, even if they didnt participate. In the past it would only give one monster the bonus. While you can turn it on and off, leaving it on leads to your Pokemon being leaps and bounds ahead of any enemy you face. Another issue with difficulty is that the player rarely runs into other trainers with more than 2-3 Pokemon in their team. This makes battles quick and a little too easy. 2) The Global Trading System (GTS) is a little hit or miss. If you search for a Pokemon you want and then after that search put in a filter like only show trades where I own what they requested the trade will fail and take you back to the main screen of the 3DS or it will just say that the Pokemon has already been traded. This lead to frustration until I came across the issue while searching online. Those 2 issues are why I could not give the game a 5, but the game is a great improvement over previous games and would be good for any Pokemon players collection.

    Greater than one week

Ive only been playing since Sinho(D/P), but this is by far my favorite of the series(even including ASOR). The end of the main story actually made me tear up, and Ive never had a Nintendo game do that. Not to mention all the improvements to the gameplay itself. I had high expectations for this game, and it exceeded all of them. B+W was a disappointment to many(myself included, why it took me so long to get this game), but I beg you not to give up on the new generations just yet.

Since I have never played this game or any other Pokemon video game. This review is based on what my 12 yr. old son has to say about it so far. Hes only played this video game for 3 days. What you read below..... I have NO IDEA what my son is talking about. Hopefully, you do. Pros: -Pokemon Trainer feature allows you to update the base status of a Pokemon without actually leveling it up first. -The Mega Evolution allows a fully evolved pokemon to evolve one more time making it stronger only while it is battling. -It used to be where you can equip an item onto just one Pokemon. Now certain Pokemon Items can be used on all the Pokemon in your party. -The Pokemon characters and the constant motion during the battle rounds has greatly improved while playing in 3D mode. My son normally doesnt care playing while in 3D mode, but for this game he has used 3D mode more than he ever has before. Cons: They brought back Pokemons from old Pokemon games (or Pokemon regions). While my son doesnt mind the old Pokemon characters, he considers this a con because he was to be introduced to new Pokemon characters. Thats all he has to say for now. I will update as soon as he has more to say about it. Hope this review helps a bit.

Tried to complete my collection so I placed an order for this product which did not have the world edition tag on the title of the product. It should. Itll go into the collection, but gosh I feel like Ive made a bit of a mistake here.

Im a big fan of the gen I and gen II games but went on a hiatus since then. Bought a 3ds and loved replaying the Yellow Version via virtual console. Again sparking my curiosity in the franchise... Wow have things changed.. First thing I noticed is how much easier the games have gotten. Literally no challenges, the gym leaders are a joke, even went through the elite 4 in one shot. I remember you used to have to work your ass off for that. Catching Pokémon is hardly ever a challenge in my experiences, lower hp and your good to go. The entire story is dull and is the same old thing, Use your Pokémon youve treated with love to defeat your opponents who use them for evil. Corny as hell ending by the way. Should I mention they are definetly running out of ideas for new Pokémon. Seriously ridiculous and boring designs. The WiFi functions such as GTS are a nice feature and graphics look nice. Other than that, I dont have much good to say. The Pokémon company is really just cashing out on a winning formula. Dont get me wrong, the idea of catching Pokémon and training them is always fun, just not as satisfying as it used to be.

The Next Evolution in Pokemon comes to Nintendo 3DS.
