    1) Animation/Game Functionality A+ This game is beautiful and so far I haven’t found a bug despite its sophisticated functions. You can travel many ways and the button work fine. This game also finally figured out how to use the touch pad effectively. It is where we get trades and the mini-games to help with EVs. It also makes organizing the box a lot easier than other games. 2) Exploration- The World A+ This game has the best exploration than any other pokemon game in the series. The places between gyms you go through are numerous. There are about two cities explored between every gym. This game also makes the city have more than pokemon as their center. There are coffee places and hotels in major cities. There are also clothes stores where the character can buy new clothes. The routes are beautiful and diverse as well. 3) Pokemon B This is where this game gets out of hand. This region has too much pokemon. Around 450 and has 3 pokedexes. Every route has about 4 new species not in previous routes. It can be overwhelming or good for collectors depending on perspective. This game may be better for collectors that do have access to internet and want to collect as much as possible. I consider my self a collector and raiser. I am currently raising two boxes of pokemon to level 100. I normally go for one but this game has too much pokemon to narrow down to just one box. The new pokemon are actually good additions. The fairy type also add new complex but it is annoying encounter a past normal type and not being able to use the same strategies against it. 4) Raising Pokemon Mixed This is where the problem maybe with this game. Getting experience pts is ridiculously easy. Pokemon don’t split experience like they use to. They now get full points when participating. Also exp. Share works ridiculously well. It is too easy to get experience points. Getting EVs does hurt from this but there is a new mini-game to help raise evs. I am not one that likes in-game mini games so the quality is unclear. Happiness and egg hatching is easier because a lot of items are given to help these things go a lot faster. 5) Trade/ Link Battle A+ Trading has two major changes. One is that there is no need to go to Pokemon Center another is that there is now Wonder Trade. Wonder trade is where you trade a pokemon of yours to get a random pokemon from somebody else. It is either good or bad depending on need. It is good to fill pokedex of easy to moderate to catch pokemon. I find it to be fun because I get easy to get pokemon from Sapphire/Ruby that don’t come in Y/X. 6) The Story C Pokemon games could use real storyline. Black and White actually had good premise for a pokemon game. This one has the lamest storyline where the bad guys make less sense than Team Galaxy from Generation 4. Nobody plays pokemon for the story but it could help.

I started playing Pokemon when I was a kid (around 10 or 12), I had Pokemon Red, and Yellow, and I played it on my GBP and GBC, respectively. I think I even beat one of them, after putting countless hours of play into them. They were a ton of fun. After that, though, I lost interest in the series and moved on to other games. I have not played another Pokemon since. So its been about 15 years. When I saw that they brought back the original Pokemon into this game, I decided to pick it up and give it a try. After playing it for a few days, I am thoroughly impressed. The quality of the 3D world, the animations, the sounds, the dialogue, everything... its almost perfect. Every time I play Im excited not only to find the Pokemon that I grew up with, but also to discover new Pokemon that Ive never seen before. If youre considering this game, I highly recommend it, even if you havent been following the series that closely. I cant find one complaint about the game thus far. I believe that Pokemon X/Y is going to become the most popular / best selling Pokemon game of this generation.

This was the first game I bought for my 3DS. I bought it last autumn as a treat for myself after passing my psychology midterm. I play this game the most out of my small game collection because after awhile, it gets a bit addicting. Because of the fast-paced storyline, the adorable (and bizzare) pokemon you can play with, and the amazing multiplayer compatibility, I can say with full confidence that this game rocks. Id recommenced this as a game for beginning to intermediate gamers, also for those who want to get into Pokemon but dont know where to start. The story is fun, but after you get the basic formulas down (fire beats grass, water beats fire, electricity beats water, etc.), battling isnt too terribly hard unless youre playing against a live opponent. Ive gotten to the point where I can play this before bed and continue to win even though Im too tired to keep my eyes open. However, because your pokemon can only learn 4 moves at a time (with limited times you can use each move), there is some basic strategy required, especially during the moments where you fight difficult bosses or other live players. And while the gameplay isnt that hard, its easy to get sucked into the mechanics of it all because each pokemon has specific trademark moves that makes for interesting battles. Unlike other pokemon games, you can actually interact, feed and play three different minigames (and a glitchy hidden minigame that uses your facial expressions as a playing piece) with your pokemon using the Pokemon-Amie feature. This allows you to feel close with the pokemon on your team. There is a lot of free-roaming allowed, and I have yet to discover all the hidden puzzles and treats left after beating the games story. One thing I want to mention though is that I dont see why the games so inconsistent with its 3D-capabilities. The majority of the game doesnt use the 3D option, but as soon as a battle starts or you enter a cave, you can use it. Also, there is an option for you as a player to customize your character. However, until you do a lot of side-questing in Luminose City, you wont be able to change your appearance, and even then theres a limited pallet. Still, you can buy outfits from each city you visit, so you can change clothes pretty early on. Overall, the games pretty fun and holds for nice challenges. Excuse me, for now I must be off. Gotta catch em all!

Miss leading pictures of the product, this is the world edition (even though the cartridge is the same as US version)

Ive played most of the past Pokemon games and they keep getting better with each iteration, and Pokemon X/Y makes the greatest leap forward in terms of interface and graphics, while continuing to follow the standard formula for core gameplay of this great series. The interface is now more intuitive than ever with little tweaks that make everything from inventory to game world easier and more efficient to navigate and manage. Youll wonder how you ever managed to get through some of the older titles without all the improvements that are to be found in X/Y. The updated graphics of the 3DS really bring all the pokemon to life, and the game world itself has never before been more breathtaking nor more beautiful to behold. There really has never been a better Pokemon game to play, for veterans and for new fans alike.

Undoubtedly my favorite Pokemon game yet. After playing through White and White 2 (as well as having a game in all of the other generations), this is a breath of fresh air. Ive been dying for another Pokemon game like Colosseum/XD and this sort of filled my request by having 3D sprites. What was truly a winner was the sound track though. 8-bit tracks are ditched, old Pokemon voices are dropped, the sound is crisp, clean, and glorious. Of course, this isnt the only thing to talk about. The numerous online improvements are awesome, the sprites are gorgeous, breeding is easier, to put it shortly, there are very few complaints. I just wish I could do 6vs6 battles over Wifi with random people. Its small though, and for that one loss, there are one thousand wins.

For the most part, its the quality Ive come to expect from a Pokemon game, but it still has a few glaring flaws. -First and foremost, they force you to pay a monthly fee to be able to transfer your Pokemon from the 5th gen games. Yes, I know the first month is free, giving you ample time to transfer everything that you cant catch in X or Y.. But its the principle of the thing: there is no reason that we shouldnt have been able to do with this new game what you could with the 5th gen games. What I mean to say, is that here isnt even a technical limitation: 3DS to DS communication IS possible, despite whatever the idiots defending this obvious cash-grab may tell you. Dont beleive me? The most recent Dragon Quest Monsters title, a Japan-only 3DS release, allowed you transfer monsters from previous titles for the DS, This isnt a case of using a 3DS in DS mode, like you might have done with your 5th gen games to transfer Pokemon over from 4th gen games... its true, undisputed, 3DS to DS communication. Nintendo could have done the same thing with X and Y, but chose not to. I could understand setting up this online transfer thing as an option for people who dont still own a DS, but the rest of us got fleeced. Hopefully, enough people will catch wind of this fact, and Nintendo will fix the problem for Pokemon Z or whatever they call the inevitable third version. -After you defeat the Elite 4, theres very little left to do other than to complete the Pokedex. The post-game hasnt been this pathetic since Red, Blue, and Yellow. For a game that I dropped $40 on, I should be getting a lot more. -Only one new evolved form of an old Pokemon (Sylveon)? Really? You can slap however many extra spikes on Charizard that you want, it doesnt change the fact that we still dont have evolved or pre-evolved forms that weve been requesting for a long time. Its not like you couldnt have made room for them. Did we really need an all-new family of moths/butterflies? Werent the FOUR we already had (Butterfree, Beautifly/Dustox, Mothim, Volcarona) enough? -While you have to give Game Freak credit for trying something different with Team Flare, I still feel that their story was really rather rushed. And what happened to AZ after your battle with him? Both issues could have been fixed with a better post game. In summation... the game lives up to a lot of the things Nintendo promised us (the visuals, trainer customization, Mega Evolution, etc), but it also suffers in a lot of other areas. Long time fans like myself will enjoy it (theres even a lot of little references to older games in it), but if you can only buy one Pokemon game this generation, I think Id recommend waiting for Z or whatever they call the third version. I have a feeling that it will expand on the story a bit, give us more of a post game (as usual), and maybe even give us a free transfer option. This is assuming, of course, that its more of a traditional third version and not a straight up sequel like Black 2 and White 2, but either way, you might want to wait.

For longtime Pokémon players the series’ debut on the 3DS is like a dream come true. This is in almost every way the Pokémon game my 12 year old self was waiting for. The most important change is that Pokémon are rendered in full 3D models, finally moving away from the series’ traditional sprites. Battles immediately remind me of Pokémon Stadium on the N64 only shrunk to the palm of your hand (not to mention the superior graphics). I had the pleasure of visiting France the Summer before Pokémon X/Y came out so immediately I was able to appreciate the Kalos Region’s design. This new cultural aesthetic really feels like a breath of fresh air. A small, but appealing feature is the ability to customize your character’s in-game appearance through skin color, hair, and clothes. This may seem like no big deal, but ever since I first played Pokémon Blue I’ve wished I could edit the appearance of my sprite. Game Freak has finally brought that feature and we can only hope they give us more choices in future titles. If Pokémon X/Y has one weakness it has to be the story. I know, I know, no one really plays these games for the story, but this game’s antagonists, Team Flair, really are a step down in quality. While the teams have always been Saturday morning cartoon villains at least they threatened the protagonists. Team Flair comes across as a group of incompetents rather than a group dead-set on changing the course of history. The game’s single-player campaign is also ridiculously easy. A beefed up Exp. Share makes level grinding a thing of the past and more often than not you walk into every gym and Team Flair battle with a team that towers over the competition. In short, I understand Game Freak wanting to cut back the hours typically spent on grinding, but if this device is going to become a mainstay in the series they’re going to have to level up the boss battles. Another thing that will bother veteran players is the lack of post-game content. Once you’ve beaten the Kalos Region Pokémon League there really isn’t much to do other than continue filling your Pokédex. Those small problems aside, Pokémon’s leap into the 3DS is a spectacular success sure to entertain old and new fans alike with its 3D recreation of the creatures we know and love. For that it receives my highest recommendation.

If youre looking for the non-world version, this isnt it.

The Next Evolution in Pokemon comes to Nintendo 3DS.
