Never install your OS on a single, massive partition, then procede to fill up the entire 2T capacity of your slow-ass HDD with stuff. My computer was slower and more constipated than a rush-hour traffic jam. Popped in this bad boy (had to go to the computer store and buy a mounting rack, was 4 dollars), installed Windows on it, and the old drive is just for storage now. There is now practically no drunken-ness period after the computer boots, and pretty much everything is more responsive now. I waited patiently for years for SSDs to become affordable, and Im glad I did.

The Samsung 850 EVO has been my first experience using an SSD and I couldnt be happier with it. Coming from an admittedly fast mechanical drive, the WD Black, this SSD has shown a remarkable speed improvement in boot time, application launching, and file transfers. In addition to Windows, I also load my commonly played games on the EVO and notice my machine beating other users in loading game levels. I cannot comment on the included Samsung software as I had no use for their file migration tool.

have two evo 850s, one 500 GB one 250 GB, they are both amazing. Pros: Light, black and not intrusive design, can fit in any build. Cons: non that I can tell.

One of the most reliable, reasonably priced SSDs, almost a standard in the computer industry. Replaced a WD velociraptor and now my Windows 10 desktop computer boots up in about quarter of the time it used to take. Very easy simple install, the most time is eaten up cloning the old hard drive to the SSD. Can take a few to several hours depending upon how many files are being cloned and their size.

This drive is very good but I have to keep backups just in case and wait for a firmware upgrade because of buggy support for the queued TRIM command. Queued (or NCQ) TRIM is different from TRIM, though, and it appears that only Linux sends NCQ TRIM. http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/os-x-el-capitan-opens-door-to-trim-support-on-third-party-ssds-for-improved-performance.1891936/page-10#post-21469307 This command is blacklisted on the latest Linux kernels though the fix was backported to earlier kernels. The whole Samsung 8* series is blacklisted. So, be sure that if you use this drive on Linux it includes the fix. If you use Ubuntu 14.04 (or derivatives like Mint) it would be: 3.19.0-22.22~14.04.1 or later. https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/e64f638483a21105c7ce330d543fa1f1c35b5bc7/drivers/ata/libata-core.c#L4238

I got this to replace a perfectly working regular 500gb hard drive in a 7 year old laptop. While I agree the laptop might seem ancient and it had significantly slowed down, I did not need a new laptop since my use is relatively not that heavy ( no gaming, programing etc). Got this exactly 7 months back and it was very easy to install and migrate the data from my old hard drive to this one. While it was easy to read of the read and write speeds on the cover here are some numbers that might help other people for light use. Computer: Dell 1750 6GB RAM and Dual Core processor. Initial Startup time: About 2 - 2:30 minutes (From pressing the button to actually being able to type in chrome) Starting up time now: About 35 seconds maximum could be 30 seconds as well ( From pressing the button to typing in chrome) Light program opening such as word/ excel/ chrome is almost instantaneous rather than waiting 2-3 seconds as previously. Heavy Programs such as Adobe photoshop/ SPSS: Loading times have reduced by at least 50% if not more. In summary this is a great way to revive an old/slowed down laptop and not spending $500-800 for a new one. The hard drive has a 10 year warranty and can be used in the new laptop that you get later on (improving speeds of that too if it has a HDD and not an SSD.) The 500GB backs provides excellent bang for the buck as well!

Replaced a spinning 500gig laptop drive with this on a Macbook Pro. Boot time now takes a few seconds. Programs open in less than a couple of seconds. I couldnt be happier with this purchase and at a great price too.

I bought this Samsung 850 EVO in 2017 and installed in a MacBook Pro 13in mid 2012 (MacBookPro9,2) holding a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor. I upgraded this MacBook Pro with this SSD and also doubled the RAM from 8GB to 16 GB with two 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 from Crucial. The Mac has been running since Dec 2017 until now Oct-2019 (with 63% space used) and still is very fast, even though I just turned on the TRIM function. I highly recommend this SSD from Samsung.

I think this will work out well, it took maybe 4 tries to get this to clone my current disk to the new disk. I tried both the included samsung software and also another free software and it kept erroring out, I think I got it working with a reboot and then the copy worked and was able to swap my old slow laptop drive with this new SSD.

Great drive. Extremely fast. I purchased the 120 gb version, but decided to return and upgrade to the 500 gb one. Great drive, really liking the performance. NOTE: If you are going to install this in a standard desktop PC, I recommend purchasing this attachment to size the drive up to a standard HDD. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G57BN1M/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_6
