With almost 30,000 reviews as I write this it would seem there’s not much to add. I have to admit I didn’t read every one of them before I made my decision but it still took me six months to decide to finally do it. I’m happy I did. I won’t throw a lot of specs into this because they are worthless when other people you don’t know talk about how their system performs. There is only one way to know how this drive will perform in your system and that is to buy it and try it and return it if you don’t like it. That’s the most important thing I can say about this.

OMG! This thing is FAST!!! I used Samsungs cloning software to clone the OS and complete HDD (all partitions) from my older Samsung 880 laptop. Cloned rather quickly, installed the SSD and WOW - it booted up instantly! Every document I opened, opened quickly. Every video loaded quickly. The apps scrolled on the touch screen much smoother. Even the web pages displayed faster. Were not gamers, so Im not able to rate that aspect, but Im certain if we played a few, they would perform quite well. I hit the power off icon and it shut down immediately.

I purchased a 1TB 860 EVO to replace an older 1TB 840 EVO. I had planned on using a Startech USB3-to-SATA dual-bay dock that I had to transfer the data from the 840 to the 860. However I found although the 840 worked fine in the dock the 860 did NOT work at all. I thought at first the 860 was DOA, as the dock has worked with pretty much every drive Ive ever had.

I installed in a MacBook Pro mid-2009 and works perfectly (June 18, 2018). As expected it connects with a Link Speed of 3 Gigabit with Negotiated Link Speed of 3 Gigabit. Fast boot, easy installation. I did not clone my data, just did a clean El Capitan install and then restore selectively my data from a backup.

Purchased this to replace the previous model Evo 850. The new drive is twice the capacity of my previous drive and I noticed its noticeably faster. The previous drive still worked after almost 1TB writes. Samsung makes great SSDs. Ive had better luck with them than other brands.

works great as bootable external running mac OS Mojave via USB 3.0. definitely do this versus taking apart you Imac... clone copy mac hard drive with Superduper! and youre off to the races! Your slow Imac will have new life again!!
