Snappy Tools Plug Cutter, 3/8

> 3 dayFirst off... this is my first plug cutter so I dont have previous experience with plug cutters that I am comparing this to. I bought this cutter to cover a dozen or so screws in a stair handrail project I was working on and it turned out great. My only complaint is that it was not very sharp. It required a bit of force and it seemed to burn its way into the wood rather than cut. Maybe red oak is a little hard for this cutter? Maybe Ill try sharpening it before the next time I use it? Overall this cutter served its purpose and helped me complete my project. I wouldnt expect this to last for a lot of uses but for a few small projects and for the price its more than adequate.

> 3 dayIt worked good it does waste a lot of wood. The size it cuts is dead on or at least it matched my bit perfectly or a bit tight. Im happy with it.

> 3 dayWorks great. Perfect match to normal countersink bit for #8 screws. Im actually mostly using this cutter to cut plugs all the way through 1/4 Baltic Birch plywood which creates a nice match to plug countersunk screw holes in thicker Baltic Birch plywood. With face side of source board pointed down on sacrificial board and drill press set to just touch the sacrificial base board, the plugs spin out nicely. (Im too lazy to cut plugs partially into the source board then chisel or trim them out, plus that probably wouldnt work well for plywood anyway).

> 3 dayProbably cuts a good plug for hardwood but absolutely blows for softwood don’t bother.

Greater than one weekMakes nice clean plugs. Use lower speed in drill press. Drill slightly undersized holes. Chisel or sand away protruding plug after the glue dries. Flawless fit.

> 3 dayIm using this to cut out plugs for the mahogany porch Im installing at home. Use lower speeds as written on the package and put it in your drill press. It takes a while to cut several hundred of them, so I do it in shifts. After a while you will get the hang of how it cuts. Steady medium pressure.
