Stonemaier Games: Wingspan Oceania Expansion, Includes New Player Mats and a Food Type, 40 to 70 Minute Play Time, 1 to 5 Players, For Ages 14 and up

Honestly, this release should of been a marketed as a stand-alone expansion that can support play for 2 players with the option of mixing the expansion with the core-set for 3 or more players. For the budget gamer, this expansion is well balanced when played by itself via 2 player stand-alone game. This is ideal if you are experienced in “Wingspan-ology“ and don’t want the unnecessary bulk of the core game or want a smaller 2 player variant of Wingspan. From my experience, everyone and their extended family owns a copy of Wingspan. If you own core set: Add the dice, boards, and cubes. Skip the player marker. I honestly never use it. Play as usual per 2 player game. If you don’t own the core set: Take two each of the food tokens & grab an old dice bag/place the tokens in the bag. Draw 5 tokens from bag to form the bird feeder, play tokens as if they were dice by drawing from bag at random when needed. Add a few sticky notes for turn tally and score keeping. Keep mental note of board grid as you play your cards from your hand onto table. Play as usual with core set rules per 2 player game. Note: this shouldn’t be too difficult for experienced wingspan players. The new card functions are balanced and work very well with each other when played with just the expansion set. I haven’t played the expansion cards with the core set yet. High quality on box contents. This expansion is simply beautiful. I recommend this expansion to other players that enjoy the core set. Update 12/13/19: I’ve played with expansion with core set. I am not pleased with the volume of the draw deck when mixed with core set. Thus painfully diluting the interactions with the European Expansion set of cards. With 3 games played, I only got a total of 5 expansion birds into play. Maybe mix 1/2 of the core set draw cards with contents of expansion in order to get more expansion out into play. I know other card games on the market suffer from excessive cards with continuous expansions. Honestly, I prefer playing this expansion with just 2 players without core set mixed in.

Lots of new cards and a new element (nectar) to simplify the game.

Love this game and this expansion just adds so much more to it. The variety of birds and more goals is great!

Wingspan is an amazing game and this expansion pack is the icing on top! I absolutely love the new actions on the bird cards, as well as the nectar which can be used as a wild food, and the new playing mats. The game is well thought out and has very high quality pieces. I feel that the expansion pack adds enough to the game that it is worth purchasing!

I love what the “nectar” adds to the game. I also love the new “end of game” feature on some of the new birds. Over all, the expansion balances well with the birds for the original game from what I can tell.

Initial reaction to this expansion is, why bother. But it grows on you immensely. Please give it 3 solid tries. Use those teal powers.

This takes Wingspan, an already great game, to the next level. I love the addition of nectar. Dont hesitate. Buy it!

Adds a fresh breath of fun to the base game of Wingspan. My wife and I love playing it a lot, and it is fun to bring others into the game too. Overall, highly satisfied and will for sure get the Oceania Expansion soon.
