5/5 stars for a great product. The MicroStream is an impressively bright miniature flashlight, and I discovered firsthand that its tough enough to take a real beating. It is as narrow as a tube of chapstick and ~2 cm longer. Included in the package was a genuine Energizer battery, a breakaway lanyard, and an extra rubber pushbutton. Im liable to lose the extra pushbutton before I need it, but its inclusion tells me that this is a product made to endure. Speaking of which, my Microstream recently survived a 30+ foot fall onto solid rock (climbing related mishap - forgot I had left the flashlight in my pocket the previous evening) and sustained only minor cosmetic damage. The battery inside of the flashlight actually malfunctioned due to the force of the impact, but the light itself was unharmed! Impressive, to say the least. I cant comment on battery runtime yet, but after nearly 2 hours of use with the original battery there was no noticeable dimming. All-in-all, the MicroStream is an extremely well-engineered piece of equipment that, while inexpensive enough to knock around without remorse, is also resilient and bright enough to rely on when you need it most. If you EVER find yourself in dark places then you need one of these! ____________________ Pros: phenomenal light output well rounded light spectrum compact - any smaller and you couldnt hold it effectively (very, very) impact resistant relatively inexpensive 1xAAA pocket clip strikes good balance between ease of use and security Cons: easy to misplace/forget due to size beam and brightness are not adjustable Unsure: battery life? (I cant give a typical runtime yet, but it seems good so far: nearly 2 hours from one AAA without noticeable dimming) waterproof? (appears well sealed, but I definitely havent tested this out)

I’m not a collector but I do buy tools and equipment based on philosophy of use. While I own several small flashlights this one is my Every Day Carry...it ‘s always with me, on my person. At the office, in the field, around the house, on the water it’s always clipped to my left trouser pocket or neatly in my jeans watch pocket...until last Wednesday when I reached for it to place with my keys and wallet on the dresser and came up empty. Long story short, the clip had gotten a bit loose, and after two days of searching I had to order a replacement. Don’t get me wrong, there are better use-specific lights: - the Streamlight Stylus is a perfect briefcase/backpack penlight...a little brighter and longer battery life; - the Olight S30R Baton is brighter and always ready on its magnetic charger base on my nightstand; - the Nitecore EC11 is a palm sized wonder ranging from a tiny red LED to preserve night vision to a 900 lumen searchlight - various hand lanterns on shelves; maglites in drawers and glove boxes; headlamps; etc...they have their purposes too. I’m neither a collector nor a hoarder, but as a former Scoutmaster I really value being prepared. With that said, my tiny MicroStream gets 80% of my use. It is bright enough to search in a cabinet, a tackle box, or under the hood. It’s easy to clip to a cap brim or even mouth-hold for two-hand work. Unlike its rechargeable cousins it’s easy to just replace a AAA, which can be found anywhere around the world. To be honest, though, I can’t remember the last time I needed to change the battery. It’s just that efficient. I get pleasure from using the right tool for the right task, but this is the one I’ve taken the time to review. Because it’s always with me. It’s just that good.

There are two items that are ALWAYS in my pocket, a small EDC pocketknife and this particular Streamlight C4. I have a drawer full of expensive and not so expensive lights, let me save you trouble, money and wasted energy on auditioning others...This is the PERFECT EDC light. Lets start with the switch, press down slightly for momentary on and more firmly for constant on, much more firmly. The switch is strong enough that it will not inadvertently get pressed on even if you carry it clipped to your front pocket or carried loose in the pocket itself. Nothing as aggravating as having your light come on and deplete the battery by the maker putting a soggy, weak on/off push button switch on it. This light is as bright as the 2 AAA form factor, clips and stays perfectly in a Carharrt T-Shirt pocket and lasts for at least a week of occasional use when loaded with the fantastic Eneloop AAA rechargeable batterys. The pocket/hat clip is S shaped so it clips to your pocket or hat brim or shirt allowing hands free use. The clip is as robust as the switch, I have yet to Spring one by clipping it to too thick of an object and it stays put in a shirt pocket when you clip it in there. Yes, someone mentioned that it scratches the barrel of the light when you unscrew it to change batteries, the face of my hammer gets scratched when I hit a nail also, its a tool, not a piece of jewelry, I dont notice it. I t is also lightweight enough to stick in your mouth when you dont have a cap on, I just wash mine off with a sponge and a little dish soap when I think about it. Have been using it like this for years with out any ill effects or chipped teeth :) The LED is covered by a hard piece of clear glass which is nicely protected by the barrel of the light extending past it by a little bit. All in all, I believe no AAA or AA form factor lights can stack up to the perfect list of features this little light offers , all this for less that $20.00 this is as good as any EDC light gets. I have lights made by 4Sevens, Fenix, Surefire, etc. and would not trade my little C4 for any of them. It does not have a flat base so it will not Tailstand , this is one overrated feature of lights anyways, I would prefer the stiff exposed switch the C4 has to this ability. If I want a Tailstand light I will light a candle :). Bottom Line: Buy this light, you will not be disappointed. I buy them as gifts for friends and family, great for the favorite women in your life to keep in their purse or key chain and any man would certainly love one as a present. I was walking from my truck to the house the other night and would have surely stepped on a 18 copperhead snake in my front yard, in flip flops no doubt! if I had not had this light in my mouth showing the way, I had a load of groceries in each hand....

The Streamlight MicroStream is a great little flashlight for the price. I bought one to replace my old incandescent Maglite Solitaire keychain light. The MicroStream is miles beyond that thing. There are many things that I like about the MicroStream, and several that I dont like. First of all, while it is not as compact as a Solitaire, it fits easily in (mens) jeans pockets. According to Streamlight, it puts out about 28 lumens, which is plenty bright for use indoors, such as looking for things under or behind furniture, or navigating your house at night or when the power is out. Its usefulness outside is limited. The MicroStream does not have adjustable focus like Maglites do, so the spot of light it puts out dissipates with distance, especially outside at night. Update: Like other reviewers I have started to encounter the flickering problem. Sometimes when I turn on the light it doesnt even light up at all. Turning it off and then back on, or smacking it against my hand, usually causes it to light up, at which point it flickers until it finally reaches full brightness. There is also a small piece that is loose inside the head of the light; I can hear it rattling around when I shake the light. It sounds like it is a very small piece, so I have no idea what it is or how important it was. I still recommend this light despite these flaws. Update II: I bought a second MicroStream to replace my first one. I purchased this second light in October 2015, and it is still working fine in September 2017 (almost 2 years) with no flickering yet. I also stopped carrying it in the same pocket as my keys to protect the lens from getting scratched.

I picked up this light to keep as a pocket light. It is slim, compact and has a pretty bright light considering its size. It is well constructed and has a clip so you can attach it to your pocket or to your baseball cap. I will say if you are looking for a super bright light, then you will disappointed in this. with the compact size it just cant throw light like the much larger lights can but that is not what it is used for! If you need to search for something in your car, trunk, a dark room or are walking a dark trail this light will do just fine. The one thing I did notice about this light is that it push button to turn it to constant on is very stiff. Not a huge problem for me because I would use it mostly as a tap light. Meaning I just push in the light enough for it to come on but not stay on constantly. I cant imagine it burning through batteries but if it does it would probably take about 2 hours of it constantly being on. Its power source is 1 AAA battery and relatively cheap to replace.

I have used the flashlight for months and have been satisfied with the brightness and battery life. Have not had to test the waterproofness. It is a very good small flashlight.

This is a truly outstanding light, and at $16.00, it competes with other lights in the $30 - 60 range in terms of build quality, form factor, and beam quality. Im very impressed. First, this is the UPDATED version of the original MicroStream, so if youve read older, pre-2011 reviews (many are still circulating online), you may be surprised to learn that this version has resolved several known issues with the older model. The beam is brighter (28 lumens instead of 20), battery run time is longer (2.5 hours instead of 1.75 hours), the tail switch is much stiffer (nearly impossible to turn on by accident in your pocket), and, though I have no way to confirm it, the anodized coating seems to be more scratch resistant. Second, this light is very small. It is barely larger in diameter than an AAA battery, and the length is about the same as the width of my medium-sized hand (i.e., if you clutch it in your fist, you should be able to palm the entire light). The two-way pocket clip is reasonably stiff and very functional. It can be clipped onto your pocket for a more secure ride or onto the brim of a hat (or backpack strap, etc.) to hold the light for hands-free illumination. Ive also clipped it onto the edge of a stroller as a very effective headlight to illuminate the pathway when pushing a stroller at night. The weight is so light you will absolutely forget that youre carrying it. Its only negligibly heavier than the weight of the AAA battery itself. Basically, if you have room for a tube of chapstick in your pocket, you have room for this light. Third, the beam is very clean. It creates a nice, round, evenly illuminated circle of light with no hot spots or shadows anywhere in the center of the beam. The beam has a very effective reach (throw range) of about 15 feet. When you shine it at your feet, it casts a brightly lit circle about 18 in diameter. There is some spill at the edges of the beam, but not enough to illuminate the surrounding area, so its closer to a spotlight than a floodlight (as any light of this size should be). Its ideal for illuminating a pathway at night, reading in the dark (though perhaps too bright for extended reading), locating a keyhole in a door, or momentarily blinding a potential attacker to gain an edge in a self defense situation. Fourth, the light is certainly weatherproof and, theoretically, waterproof. I havent tested the latter claim, but there is an O-ring seal on the barrel threads where the light screws together so I suspect it would certainly survive a drop into a puddle or other casual contact with water. I wouldnt deliberately take it diving, of course, but its not a dive light so it hardly matters. In short, Im very impressed with this excellent, lightweight, perfect-for-casual-lighting-needs light. Ill probably buy several more and stow them in various places (kitchen cupboard, boat hatch, glovebox, office drawer, etc.) because theyre so affordable and useful, yet take up almost no room.
