My review is quite contradictory to all off the rave reviews on Amazon. It isnt that I dont respect the opinions of the majority here, but I just wanted to share my personal experiences with this product. I love shave soaps and even those that are tallow-based, but Tabac isnt really for me. I understand that it has a loyal following and is not a poor performer, but its tough to justify it when there are so many better performing and better smelling products out there. In spite of my great attempts over the past year or so, Ive never received a shave from this product that could match even the economical go-to soaps for wet shavers (Such as Proraso, Arko, and others). It doesnt let the beard soften (even with substantial amounts of water), nor does it provide much protection against abrasion. It lathers reasonably, but does not lather as well as other tallow-based soaps. Tallow soaps, in spite of their generally excellent performance, are generally considered to be lower-cost ingredients compared to vegetable alternatives. The fragrance is not bad, but I find that it just lingers for far too long after shaving. It will hang on your face all day. Some may find it a bit off-putting, and actually gives me headaches by noon. Smells old-school of warm florals, baby power, and soapiness, very little citrus in spite of what the description implies. I expect Arko to smell like bargain soap. I expect Tabac to smell incredible for its price. I dont feel that this smells up to par. Unfortunately, it probably costs about twice what it really should cost. This product seems to be geared for fans of the entire Tabac line. It probably isnt ideal for someone that just simply wants the best possible or economical shave. You could probably get a similar shave from an average bar of tallow soap.

Perfume Spot does not include the bowl with this purchase of Tabac. This is simply a refill.

Love this stuff! I have gotten my best shaves with this Soap and Speick cream. Lathers like a dream, even better with distilled water. The scent isnt terrible to me but it is evoking memories of my youth that I cant quite place but I think my grandparents bathroom smelled like this. They were classy people so that isnt a bad thing, at least to me :)

Tabac is an excellent soap. I like the fact that it builds such a high quality lather with so little effort. I also happen to like the scent, so this is an overall winner for me. With the exception of some of the artisan soaps, youre not going to find many better than this.

Very slick, smooth lather and a wonderful smell. Tabac produces abundant lather with little effort. To me, there is no better shaving soap. I acknowledge that it is subjective whether or not a product is good or bad, and some people wont like Tabac. However, to me, every shaver owes it to themselves to try this soap.

I seem to prefer creams and am picky about my soaps. I appear to be down to just liking this soap, DR Harris Arlington, and Mitchells Wool Fat of the ~10 Ive tried. Tabac has that nice fresh and clean scent I like. It also lathers up quite nicely... albeit after a bit more work than the creams take!

Ive tried several different shaving soaps and creams, but I always come back to this one. Easy to lather, and gives me a creamy, lubricated shave every time. The scent is unique and grows on you. Danke schön.

Ive tried several of the hard shaving soaps and this is by FAR the best Ive found. It has a ceramic bowl with a lid. It creates a good lather and has a nice, but not a strong scent. The other soaps are now under the sink.

Lathers great and is good quality. The price is unbeatable. I love the smell and it is very smooth. The scent lingers but is subtle. Overall great product.

I have been shaving with tabac for a while. It was one of my first shave soaps and I still use it today. After going through 2 or 3 soaps I decided to get this container set so I can use my current wooden container for some other soap to try. I thought by looking at the picture that the Tabac soap container was plastic. I was wrong, it is ceramic or something like that and so is the lid. A very nice container overall. I just dont like picking it up. (might drop it and break it) It comes with a soap puck of Tabac obviously. Now for those of you who havent used Tabac and might be on the fence about it, get this soap. It smells like a fresh clean classic scent with some manly, masculine, tabaccoish, woodsy kind of smell to it. It is one of those scents that you are either going to really really love or really really hate. The soap lathers better than or just as good as any top end soap I have. (Captains Choice, Razorock, Mamabears, Taconic, Mitchells wool fat, Klar, etc, etc. etc.) I find with hard city water (the water I have) the soap wants more water than usual as I lather it up as compared to soft well water that Ive also used. Learning how much water a soap needs for perfect lather is half the enjoyment of wet shaving. Some brands want more and some want less. Tabac is also a hard soap so it takes more time to load the brush than a soft soap BUT because it is a hard soap it lasts much much longer than a softer soap. Now if or when you get this soap it will perform top notch regardless if you like the scent or not. But if you love the scent like most of us wet shavers do. Then you are commanded to buy the Tabac shower soap gel, deodorant, aftershave, and cologne. And celebrate Tabac Tuesday like I and many other wet shavers do. Because that is just how it is.
