> 24 hourIt looks like a high-quality item, but it did not work for my window. Build quality is very good, almost over-engineered. The only issue that I have with this bracket is that for the type of window this would work for, you probably wouldnt even need such a heavy-duty bracket, since windows with adequate ledges can bear the weight of an air conditioner far better than those without. For those types of windows, there are far cheaper options (shims, 2 x 4s, etc) that would do the job just fine. Also, based upon the description and my measurements, this *should* have worked for me, but unfortunately, it did not - my ledge was just a hair too shallow. This possibility is something you might want to keep in mind, because returning it will be really inconvenient, should you need to. I do wish this would have worked. With this bracket, you could put a really big air conditioner in your window and rest secure knowing that it would be well supported. If a bracket is required by your HOA or apartment complex, this is the one. It really is a very nice bracket. Even though I had to return it, I give it five stars overall.

> 24 hourThis Black & Decker bracket is very well made, and we thought it was exactly what we wanted for easy mount and dismount of our tiny A/C unit, which we only use 2½ mos out of the year. Unfortunately, it sounds more like a universal fit than it really is, regardless of the many adjustments you can make for both the interior and exterior wings/legs (half stops for the exterior = wonderful). Though we finally found a place for the gripper feet on the exterior legs to lay flat against our siding, it left the bracket at an incline instead of a decline, which is of course the opposite of what you want with an air conditioner because of condensate concerns. We tried numerous times (literally a dozen different adjustments!) to get it to work, but it was impossible for it to be snug on the frame inside and at the proper angle outside. Plus, it left huge gaps beneath the A/C unit on both sides. Also, we feel it was made for larger units and that this should be noted. We purchased the very popular and best-selling Frigidaire unit here on Amazon, which is tiny and only 40 lbs. It just barely fit (like by a mere half inch) when centered on the bracket, and kept slipping between the vertical legs/supports—to the extent that we went online to look for rubbery bits to apply to either the A/C or the bracket, and then we thought, What are we doing?! This just wont work for us. Amazon processed our return without a hitch. (And honestly, later drilling three holes in the bottom of our vinyl-clad window was absolutely NO big deal—and it left no gaps.) Bottom line: Its well made, and an attractive color (the dark grey). But know that even if you measure all surfaces and areas, and everything looks as though it will be a perfect fit, its still possible this bracket is not going to work for you. However, Id still recommend it if you have a more standard size A/C unit and a flatter exterior surface like brick or stucko. Siding is tough because of the way the rows cut off, and you just wont know if this will work until you have it in your hands for a trial. Thankfully Amazon is good with returns if youre prompt with your trials.

> 24 hourFirst of all the instructions booklet with an English cover is in Spanish and the one with a Spanish cover is in English -- obviously not at big deal. Neither is it a big deal that the instructions are upside down. The construction quality seems very sturdy. I think this thing is going to hold up longer than the AC, possibly. I bought this for a new LG LW1019IVSM unit which weighs 63 lbs. Its holding the AC up without issue. However, I had to take the bracket back apart and re-assemble it backwards then put it back into the window as well as adding a piece of wood underneath it on the outside of the window. Without this, the bracket would raise up the unit so high thered be a huge gap underneath and other spaces allowing air to travel through. It has these optional clips with it that attach the accordion fins to the bracket but I really dont see a purpose in this. The 4/5 is the combination of the poor attention to detail on the manuals and the struggle finding a solution to make it work, which resulted in having to re-assemble it upside down and add a piece of wood underneath it. Shouldnt have to do that, especially not for $80.

> 24 hourExactly what we needed. Our AC was too complicated to use the manufacturers instructions to install in the window. We had to take it out of the casing, screw the casing into the window, attach the brackets to the casing, slide the unit back into the casing, put it all back together, put the rim brackets on, it was a pain. I thought someone else has had to have this problem, and there has to be a solution out there already, did some research and came across this product. One caveat. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR EMAILS. The manufacturer will be contacting you to confirm the type and size of windows you have. Id recommend putting that information in the product description. After three cancellations and a poor review from me, I ran across the buried emails in my inbox. After we connected Ernie was great, and even sent this out overnight for the regular shipping charge because of the misunderstanding. At first I was miffed, because Id already read the requirements and had already measured the windows and such, but on second thought was pleased theyd go to so much trouble to ensure you have the correct type of windows. A lot of people dont read the details. NOW FOR THE PRODUCT ITSELF: This product is VERY STURDY & WELL MADE. EXTREMELY EASY TO PUT TOGETHER. SIMPLE TO ADJUST. Two arms rest against the inside of the window frame, the two legs rest against the outside wall and the weight of the unit holds everything sturdily in place. Is absolutely ideal if you have an upstairs window in a rental apartment and cant mar the window with screws and such. For our house, its on the first floor, which Id be hesitant to do if the unit wasnt so heavy. All in all, a WELL THOUGHT OUT PRODUCT. I RECOMMEND IT WHOLEHEARTEDLY - if you have the correct type and size of window.

> 24 hourThis is overall a very good product, from the standpoint of support and security, once you learn to adapt it to your particular situation. I had to improvise, since the unit for which I had bought it had under-unit channels for the accordian flanges that made it impossible to fit the only possible place in the TopShelf. So I had to have the a-c sit totally on top of the Shelf in order to bring the window down behind the top rail rather than in front of it. This required some extra carpentry and insulation and the making of extra panels to keep out external air. Still, my major concern is the security of the a-c, and in this it doesnt fail. Our old farmhouse window doesnt have any added stress with TopShelf

> 24 hourFirst, this went together very, very easily. I had it assembled, adjusted, and in the window in a few minutes. Sliding the A/C unit in place was very easy. But a couple thoughts on making it a bit better 1) The alternating pins are very clever, but need to be called out in the instructions. I thought something was wrong for a moment, until I realized how it was walking into place, moving one detent at a time. 2) its not clear in the instructions how the wings that hold the inside of the window frame are supposed to fit up against the window frame and trim. I ended up extending the wings as far as I could within the window (based on the flat portion on the bottom), and let the tabs reach as far as they could. 3) I padded the support against the window with some foam, and put some of the foam that came with my A/C unit (meant to be applied to the window sill) to the shelf in a few contact points to reduce the amount of metal-to-metal contact and vibration (its noticeably quieter, now).

> 24 hourVERY easy to set up, but you do need to poke your head out of the window to make sure the feet are flat on the wall. If you dont do that, and something jostles the air conditioner, I can imagine dire things happening. The instruction booklet, like ALL instruction booklets, could use some work. Maybe larger, clearer illustrations. But, its true, you dont need any tools. One last thing - you need to use alternate methods to fill the gaps created using this bracket. There will be areas in front of and underneath the bracket to fill. Not a problem - I used bubble wrap. Bottom line - I feel that the entire unit is safer, and therefore, we are safer using it.

> 24 hourThis is very well constructed and very sturdy... but is not designed to fit what should be a normal installation. There is a 1 space from the outside of my window track to the edge of my siding. Which is similar to most houses I have owned. This bracket will not work unless there is at least a 3 space when set on its most compact setting. And it is adjustable to accommodate up to a 9-10 gap.. which I have never seen in any residential setting.

> 24 hourThis was incredibly easy to put together and install. I have an older home with wooden windows, it fits great and is very sturdy. I have a 10k BTU ac on it right now and it is great. Im very happy with my purchase, if only everything was as simple!

> 24 hourThis device is strong, well designed and super easy to install IF you have the right kind of windows. Which i did not... Fortunately my ac unit sits in a first floor window (in the back yard and surrounded by fencing) so i was able to make a work around and still use the bracket. I REALLY wanted a bracket that did not require drilling holes in the window frame because i just installed new windows and DID NOT want to put ANY holes in the frames!!! Because my windows were not what this bracket was designed to work with i ran into two problems. Getting the ac unit to sit flush with the window and getting the bracket to brace against the outside wall. You can see from the pix I included how i managed to do that but heres the detail if youre interested: The website specs say you need a minimum of 6 from inside wall to outside wall, which I do, BUT, they dont mention (until you buy it and read the instructions that come with the bracket...) that the measurement HAS to actually be from the inside frame of the window (not the inside wall) to the outside wall of the house. They presume a sill on the outside of the house not on the inside. My windows have an inside sill and not an outside sill. Consequently we had to jump through numerous hoops to get the unit secured so it was relatively airtight to the window. I added a small piece of foam packaging to sit between the metal bar and the window frame, so the metal bar that is supposed to rest directly on the window frame would not damage the frame. I also had to devise a styro fitting to go all around the unit (inside and out) because (as I have heard mentioned in other reviews) there was a huge gap between the ac units wings and the window frame, like 1/2 inch of more! But the biggest problem, if you dont have enough depth between the inside window frame and the outside wall, is the legs on the bracket as designed, will not reach the outside wall, so there is nothing to hold the bracket in place. If you dont have a first floor window then most people have to nail some wood into their outside wall so the legs can rest against that. That means holes in the outside wall of your house (not good) and trying to affix the wood to usually brick or in my case stucco (not easy). So i finally opted to scrap using the legs to the brace and went with a wood brace that extends from the underside of the bracket to the ground. I treated the wood so it will last longer and set it on a brick so it wasnt directly on the ground (to minimize attracting termites). You do have to be sure you get the proper amount of slope so the ac unit tilts down so the condensation will run outside. The bracket is well made and if you have the kind of windows it is made for you are golden. If not there are some things you can do, if you really dont want to put holes in you window frames or house. I sure would like to see them make a couple models so that more people could take advantage of the easy install feature (took us about 4 hours to problem solve and install this baby) but now that its there, i am super happy I went to the trouble of trying to make it work!
